I do love a good garage sale, and my kid loves shopping in vintage stores, so today we found ourselves at Forest Park Emporium after our planned ice cream outing at the Brown Cow ice cream parlor, next door, ended too quickly. Sadly, the Brown Cow is closed for construction, so we missed out. We had already found parking, so instead of buying ice cream, we went treasure hunting next door. We had a lot of fun moving from one vendor area to the next as we worked our way around the store. It is very, very full of merchandise, but didn't feel super cramped. It would be harder to navigate if you are a larger size or if you need a walker or wheel chair. The aisles and vendor set-ups are narrow, so it does take some patience and balance to maneuver in and around. But everything is clean and well organized, so big plus there. And there is a massive amount of unique things. Smelled fine, too, not stuffy or smoky. The owner was walking around with a spray bottle, tidying up. Owners and customers all wore masks. 6-foot distancing marks are on the floor and additional signs are all around the shop, reminding shoppers about COVID precautions, which was appreciated. It's tough to review a place like an antique store that has everchanging stock. What they might not have today, they could have tomorrow. So that said, there are two things that are reviewable at such a store; people and presentation. Forest Park Emporium did well on both points. I went there looking for a handbell and found one after maybe ten minutes. But the guy who was overseeing the store kept looking and actually found one that was more suitable for my needs. As for presentation, I strolled through most of the "booths" there and they were all pretty clean and in good order. Much easier to shop and look for things in a store like this. This was my 2nd or 3rd visit and I'll be back again I'm sure! read more

I am hooked on the Emporium. I live right down the street from this antique shop and end up stopping in about once a week. There are almost thirty vendors and this provides for a wide variety of items from many different eras. Personally, I am in the market for Mid-Century Modern pieces and the vendor who is in the front window never fails to deliver. Perhaps that is why I am drawn in time and time again. There is always something in the window display that convinces me I have to have it! The prices are fair and while I have always paid the asking price for what I have purchased, I have overheard negotiations on the price of certain items. Just like any antique store, if you plan to go in and shop, plan to stay awhile. While they do a nice job of displaying the items, it can still take some digging to find the perfect piece in some of the stalls. Madison Ave has several antique stores and I have not been in many of them, but to be honest, I just keep going back to the Emporium and that works for me! read more

Great collection of antiques by a variety of shops and individuals in this little store. Chock full of amazing china pieces (alas, no Fiestaware), and even some publications and magazines worth checking out (vintage Popular Science). I didn't find what I was looking for, but will definitely keep this store in mind if I'm in the neighborhood again. read more

Forest Park Emporium is a pretty standard antique mall set-up, with multiple vendors each having a booth. Some booths were really charming, while others were filled with less exciting items. Prices were dependent on the booth, ranging from slightly better than average to way overpriced. I was charmed by the front booth featuring kitchen items, and a middle booth with some great vintage clothing and accessories. Some other booths were overcrowded or had mismatching, musty, broken and chipped items. I had a good time looking through, and will probably go back next time I'm walking around Forest Park. read more

The Emporium used to be a movie house. If you walk to the back, you can still see where the movie projector projected from and also some of the original walls. They have a lot of stuff (unfortunately, I do not need any more stuff so I can't seriously go there to shop.....I've run out of space). read more

This place is a gem to find in Forest Park. But apparently because it carries vintage and one of a kind pieces the owners or shall I say people that work there are super rude! I went in once and will probably never bother going back as I asked for a specific item and was baffled when the employees there just could not get up to point me in the right direction of the store of where to look. They are snooty and rude and I've actually visited other vintage stores further down the block towards Des Plaines which are just as nice and the owners are willing to help you look for an item and they are super nice and willing to give you a great deal. End point is if you like dealing with snobs and paying them, go for it! Just because you have nice stuff does not mean you have to be crabby towards your customers. I live right behind the emporium and I love stopping in as often as I can! They always have new stuff and there are so many dealers! The people working are super helpful and they direct you to what you're looking for and dont just send you to their booth like a lot of dealers may. I love the selection of vintage jewelry and mid century modern. There are also vintage clothes, barware (my fave to buy!) And seasonal decorations. Very competitivly priced and nothing is super expensive. Worth the trip! More antique shops nearby as well! read more

This place is a dream back in time, I could have walked around here for hours basking in the nostalgia. The two older gentlemen who were there working that day were extremely helpful and very kind, even made jokes with me at one point. I came in around closing and was not rushed to leave and didn't feel hurried however I did make a solid effort to wrap up my shopping so they can go home. I found some great pieces and I can't wait to go back. read more

I beg to differ with Ann D. My experiences with the Emporium have been very, very good. The staff has always been nice to me and on some days when I endlessly ask to open this cabinette or that showcase, they do not get flustered at all. I will grant you that over the years they have had a few old curmudgeons behind the counter but what antique mall doesn't? I completely disagree on discounts. The Emporium, as with most malls, keeps a list on hand of what the individual dealers will allow for a discount. I have found the norm to be 10% off items over $20-25 (did I just give away the goose?). On two occasions when I thought the price of an item was still too high, including the dealer's listed discount, the staff offered to call the dealer to see if they would sell for less. One dealer did give me a little more off the other did not. I thought the system worked fine. Ann D., I do hope you give it another try, perhaps you got someone on a bad day. I went to school in Champaign, IL and there was a shop... I don't remember the name of it, but this shop reminds me of it. I loved looking through their costume jewelry (the prices were just fine, i have no idea what anyone else is talking about). I've created a rule for myself that every time i go there from now on i am only allowed to buy one thing at a time (maybe up to three. oops). There are 20+ dealers in this great space, everything from Mid Century Modern, fantastic assortment of jewelry, primitives, Fiestaware, postcards, and great Christmas Holiday collectibles.
