Another time, another doctor swore that my child probably had strep even though the test came back negative. Before we left, I asked about a rash he had and suddenly, they realized it was coxsackie. Another time, I asked about an issue I was concerned with for one child and the doctor wasn't concerned. 10 months later, we find out the other child has a major issue that we would have tested for 10 months earlier if the dr had taken my concern seriously and knew that it potentially had genetic implications for siblings. After we found out about the major issue, the doctors did not contact us to see how he was doing. I have reached out to them regarding this issue via the portal and they ghosted me. How do pediatricians ghost a parent? I had questions and suggestions so that other parents are not taken by surprise with the issue my son has and they ghosted me. We have seen every doctor in this practice throughout our long tenure with them and although they seem nice, they are not competent except if it's just your average check up.

I want to give special praise to one doctor in particular, Dr. David Costabile. He is extremely patient, listens to your concerns and thoroughly addresses all your questions no matter how minute. He explains everything in layman's terms and never throws medical jargon in your face. He has been the best health care profession that I've ever dealt with.

My child does not do well with doctor visits and she needs and deserves the time and patience in getting exams done. Nurses have not shown respect or understanding as I work with and communicate with my child. The exam rooms are garish, each assigned a color and decked out top to bottom in the bold hue. Not at all a relaxing atmosphere. We saw Dr Baskind initially and he was thorough, personable, and a fun person to sit with for your visit; we saw Nurse Mary Ellen who was informative and got me on the right track with breastfeeding, I'd go so far as to say guaranteeing our success; we saw Dr Ellen Sandoval who was gentle and kind, a real gem at this practice... They have all been great and I hate to part with them but I simply will not take my child here any longer. We will be going somewhere that meets the patient with patience.

(Imagine NOT complaining about the insanity of US health insurance!) Their attitude was exactly what a sick child needed to keep him calm. The doctor was kind, on time, thoughtful, and knew how to examine a three year old without scaring him at all. After the diagnosis of flu, the first of the season, two of the staff came in and applauded with the doctor! "The first flu of the season! Well done! Congratulations!" which made the boy smile. After the diagnosis, Dr. Zatz was judicious, restrained, reassuring, and collaborative. His confident advice was to do X, but also available was Y if we wanted it. We took his advice, gratefully. Our family had an extremely difficult and traumatic experience when we brought our 5 year old here. We understand that emergency medicine can be challenging and that teaching hospitals play an important role in training future physicians. However, we expected appropriate supervision, greater attention to pediatric pain management, and a more compassionate approach throughout the process. Unfortunately, our experience fell well short of those expectations, and we left deeply disappointed by the care our son received.

Any attempt to advocate for myself with her was met with defensiveness, and further argument to the point where she claimed the doctor might not read my results and say they are incomplete because she has nothing to compare them to. Um, how do they establish baseline for new patients then? What are they are going to do if the prior images are simply not available? Truly bizarre and I honestly should have just lied. In conversations before the bris, I knew that my friend was nervous about the process, the ceremony, and the actual circumcision. I can say with confidence that Dr. Rumbak put the family's mind at ease both with her expertise and her gentle approach. As a "spectator" at the ceremony, Dr. Rumbak passed around sheets so we can all follow along and feel part of the ceremony, and explained what different blessings meant. She also added some Jewish text in a modern and relevant way, which I appreciated, and my family continued to discuss post ceremony. The sweet baby did super well and was calm throughout the entire process. Truthfully, I didn't even know when the actual circumcision actually happened because she was so gentle and discrete. At the end of the ceremony, many people went up to Dr. Rumbak to compliment her on one of the best brit mila's they ever went to, and many asked for her card (including my mom for our temple!). She has a great business partner in Shachar, who socialized with the guests of the ceremony, kept everything organized, and was just an all around stand up guy. Oh, and how great that she is a mohel AND a doctor. Talk about putting your mind at ease..that will definitely do it. Highly recommend.

Would have loved so much to give a glowing review of Dr. Rumbak but unfortunately we look back on…read morethe day of my son's bris and what transpired after with a lot of sadness. Dr. Rumbak deserves credit and thanks for her discretion in not circumcising our son the day of his bris due to a urological condition she noticed in her ore-ceremony examination. We are thankful for that. She performed what essentially worked out to a baby naming ceremony for us. Obviously the day was emotional to begin with and the news she couldn't circumcise was extremely disappointing and heartbreaking since this was a day we looked forward to for so long. In the days after the bris we were able to absorb the events better and realized exactly what happened. To begin with, my wife asked for a program to keep as they were being collected (yes, collected), and the response was, "I collect them." She said the same to my mom (baby's grandma). We consider this ridiculous - even if the baby's grandparents couldn't have one, at least the parents should. When I emailed Dr. Rumbak about the issue I'm about to describe, I also mentioned the program and that part of my email was left unaddressed. Here's the major problem, though. We paid $800 for a circumcision plus $150 for travel from Manhattan to Nassau. We were happy to do this because we really liked Dr. Rumbak on the phone. However, after the bris, we had a bit of a realization that really irked us. Why were we never offered any kind of refund for the circumcision not being performed? It really should have been offered that day, on the spot, but it wasn't. Days and weeks turned to months and we still were never offered anything. We didn't even get an email or phone call to check on our son given the medical issue Dr. Rumbak identified. This was surprising given the emotional nature of the day but also because part of Dr. Rumbak's service (advertised on her web site and vouched for in her reviews) is her frequent follow up with the family. Finally after a few months, I emailed her explaining we feel we are owed some kind of refund due to the most critical part of the ceremony, the circumcision, not being performed. It is that expertise for which we paid. Dr. Rumbak issued a $200 refund, saying that the rate for a baby naming is $600. It's unfortunate such a beautiful day was soured by the experience we had. As new parents we feel we were, in a way, taken advantage of. Dr. Rumbak did ultimately give some money back, but we feel we shouldn't have had to ask. Experiences like this are what make people cynical about organized religion. The right thing to do would have been to give us a refund without us having to ask. We would not recommend her.
