The administration continue to leave me unimpressed and often times, angry and disappointed. The front line staff is a mixed bag. We've had the mediocre and the bad. Then we've had some gems take care of my aunt. I would say that if not for the people on the front line that are there because they are in elderly care for the right reasons, the place would be completely miserable. Thankfully there are some good and caring clinicians. Transparency is not a strong point for BBV. Neither is coordination. My aunt had moved to different areas for different levels of care and each time it feels rushed, pressured and doomed to a horrible transition. For the cost, you would hope that BBV would have moving coordinators that are helpful but nope. I would not recommend this place. It's pretty, and like I said, some beautiful people here and there but the admin is horrible to deal with by and large.

I had asked my brother-in-law if he would like me to be his advocate. He thought that would be great and appreciated my suggestion. I live on the West Coast and of course Brooksby is on the East Coast. I knew that because of HEPA laws staff are not supposed to talk to family members without written permission or consent form. I called their case manager and my brother-in-law's nurse over 15 times in one week and left voice messages. NO ONE CALLED ME BACK! When I finally reached someone in the administration office, I explained the situation and asked if she would please call me back either way to let me know what's going on. I STILL have not heard from anyone. Although I live 3000 miles away, I am the closest relative that still has cognitive abilities. All three of my younger sisters have Alzheimer's. I was hospitalized with shortness of breath which doctors thought I had a heart attack on top of a bad case of bronchitis. The cardiologist performed a cardiac catheterization and told me that my heart was "great." He asked if I had been under stress and diagnosed me with broken heart syndrome due to the stress I had caused by the total lack of communication between Brooksby regarding my family members and myself. NO ONE YET HAS CALLED ME BACK! It's been about 4-6 weeks. My family pay an exorbitant amount of money and Brooksby cannot return a phone call? Family care is good healthcare. I would not recommend Brooksby to anyone considering putting themselves or a loved one in that facility.

Ordinarily an Aberdeen caregiver is scheduled to be with my cousin just a few mornings per week, and there was no one on duty last Friday when some visiting neighbors became concerned that she was unwell and phoned Aberdeen for help. The Aberdeen Case Manager, Diana Shepherd, promptly rushed over to my cousin's house to check and take care of her. Diana then stayed with my cousin until she could arrange for Aberdeen caregivers to stay with her 24/7 until the health crisis passed. I appreciate that it was not easy to find caregivers on such short notice, and am grateful to those kind caregivers who rearranged their schedules during this busy holiday season just to be with my cousin. I live four hours away, so having this dedicated team in place means the world to me, and gives me great peace of mind. I cannot say enough good things about Aberdeen, and Diana and her wonderful caregivers!

Let me start at the beginning. We looked at this location for my mom because she needed more care than we were able to give her at home anymore, it all seemed like a great fit, the woman that gave us the tour was wonderful and kind, unfortunately she hit ill and they let her go. One thing that I cannot say enough about is the activities department! If not for them I would have taken my mom out, they kept my mom busy and entertainment for the last six months of her life. Jacinda the director should open her own business! I have so many items that my mother made that are beautiful and I will cherish them forever. Let me get to the negative about this company. The management is truly awful, I won't go into too many specifics but I know that karma will have her way with these folks. I will start with the family is supposed to get together with a manager and get a 30 and 60 day review of how their loved one is doing, Jack the manager had to change the date, ok fine but when I went in on the date he changed it to he started yelling at me (the customer paying 9k a month) saying he was too busy! There is a nurse case manager who oversees the nursing staff, unbeknownst to me I don't even think she's an RN, that I caught in a bunch of lies about my mother falling, which ultimately resulted in her death. I had asked to see the video to see my moms fall and was given the runaround how Jack couldn't find it on the film (what??? Why do you have cameras then?) my mom was in hospice care and did not have a long outlook but this definitely rushed her process along. I could go into many more stories, something that really left a bad taste in my mouth? They sent me a bill after my mom had passed away, keep in mind, this is a 50 bed facility, not a huge corporation! My mom had been gone over five weeks now, I'm still awaiting the refund I was promised three weeks ago, the management doesn't care about their clients whatsoever, it's all about the money, thank goodness for Lorna, Denise and Jacinda!

Its like a hotel two man rooms for men you both get your own TV private bathrooms i believe the women get there own rooms or some. My problem was with staff alot of them are in recovery themselves and get there feelings hurt very easily. When you are in recovery your not the best person your hurting not just physically but mentally. Especially mentally so some of us bark when upset . Not threatening but loud and few f words are to be expected. You cant lie to your patients I stayed at rca and they lost my clothes then was told the spent three hours looking for my stuff witch I knew was lies. I told my therapist I didn't want her as my therapist and because I said this two her she had me thrown out never to return. She lied ! Because I didn't want her. And her boss Frank ate her lies up like candy and the day before frank talked me into staying because I wanted to leave. He talked me into saving my life and she got me kicked out. If you are truly trying to help people fuck your ego. I could have died because this woman feelings got hurt. Its bullshit! Hire pros not little girls

My Experience at RCA Danvers -- A Review of Care, Compassion, and Dignity…read more I have spent a lot of time thinking about whether I should write this review because I know that recovery is different for everyone, and I also understand that treatment facilities have rules, policies, and limitations. However, I feel strongly that people considering treatment deserve to hear from someone who experienced this facility firsthand. I was at RCA Danvers in Danvers, Massachusetts, through Section 35, during a period of my life when I was extremely vulnerable. I entered treatment because I needed help, structure, compassion, and an environment where I could begin rebuilding my life. Unfortunately, much of my experience left me feeling like I was being treated more like a number or a paycheck than an actual human being. One of the most difficult parts of my experience was having to repeatedly beg for basic personal belongings and necessities. I had to continually chase my team and caseworkers just to get access to my own clothes, personal hygiene items, and personal belongings. Even letters from my child, my family, and someone very important to me were things I had to repeatedly ask about and follow up on. For someone in recovery, those things are not insignificant. A letter from your child can be the thing that gets you through an incredibly difficult day. A letter from your family can remind you why you're fighting. Having your own hygiene products, clean clothes, and personal belongings can help you maintain a sense of dignity and normalcy when almost everything else about your life has been taken out of your control. I also had an experience where I requested certain spiritual/religious materials that were meaningful to me. I am a Christian, and I specifically wanted something as simple as a Christian/spiritual hoodie. Instead of feeling like my beliefs were respected as part of my recovery journey, I felt like making that request became unnecessarily difficult. Recovery is not one-size-fits-all. People come from different religious backgrounds, cultures, families, and life experiences. Spirituality can be an important part of someone's recovery, and I believe those differences should be respected rather than made to feel like an inconvenience. The phone situation was another major source of frustration. When I initially entered treatment, I understood that phone access would be limited. However, as I progressed and phased up and met the criteria for increased phone access, I expected the privileges I had earned to actually be accessible. Instead, I repeatedly found myself having to chase down caseworkers just to get the phone calls I was supposed to have. I shouldn't have had to repeatedly advocate for myself just to communicate with my child and my family. For someone who is already emotionally vulnerable, isolated from their support system, and trying to maintain motivation in recovery, those connections matter tremendously. The housekeeping was another area where I was disappointed. There were times when I had to personally request that the bathroom be cleaned and that my bedsheets be changed. I understand that facilities get busy, but cleanliness and basic hygiene should not feel like something a patient has to fight for. There were things I felt I shouldn't have had to personally manage or repeatedly request while I was there. What bothered me most wasn't one individual incident. It was the pattern. I constantly felt like I had to chase people down. Chase my team. Chase my caseworkers. Ask again. Ask again. Explain again. Advocate again. And eventually, it became exhausting. When you're in treatment, especially when you're there under circumstances where you may already feel like you've lost control over your life, the last thing you should feel is that you have to fight the system for basic dignity and care. I want to be very clear: I am not saying every employee at RCA Danvers is a bad person, nor am I saying that treatment doesn't help anyone there. I'm speaking about my experience. I'm also grateful that I made it through that chapter of my life and that I continued moving forward in my recovery. But I believe treatment facilities need to understand that the people walking through their doors are not just patients, beds, insurance claims, or numbers. They are someone's mother. Someone's daughter. Someone's son. Someone's partner. Someone's sibling. Someone's entire world. And many of them are walking into treatment scared, ashamed, emotionally exhausted, and extremely vulnerable. Cassandra Jules
