I finally had to call corporate after patiently waiting 1 month..Colonial HR was not happy about that & I still never received a handbook. I even left voicemails to Mr. Bane himself.. Not even a common courtesy phone call in return. The Rules were NEVER consistant, no communication, and the Activity department left residents consistantly ALONE during transporting in hallways even when nobody was ever around ever to watch them, very scary!!! Activities never started on time either. The Activities department made residents go to certain activities against what they really wanted to do..pre-made activity list..which FYI is against Medicare. No bedside manner & few staff members actually had compassion. The hallways smelled like urine and it really was a sad cold environment. I felt so bad for these poor residents and their familys. Justice has been served by this place being permanently closed. The new administrator just liked his title, period.

She sat in a wheelchair covered in blood on her hands and pants starring at a wall when I visited. Just utterly disgusted!!! The bathroom is shared by 4 patients. I asked several times to dress her in real clothes and not a Johnny. They could care less about any sort of dignity she has left. Her hair was matted and could not get an aide in to clean her up, they were too busy so I did it myself. There are other things I won't post that are even more horrible. The place is dirty and smells like urine. I'm am surprised the state hasn't shut it down.

Jim P's terrific review says it all. Orchid Cove is better than great in just about every way! Had a nice lunch there today with mom. Perfectly grilled Rueban with fries for a side. Came out quick and hot. Eaten there many times and it's always good with courteous, attentive service. That being said dining is by invitation only from a resident. Lucky me. Took a nice walk around after lunch really beautiful grounds this time of year.

It's not perfect - no place is - but the relatively small problems at OC do not in any way overshadow the friendly and helpful staff, good food, interesting and useful programs (including performances, art classes, book club, talks on various topics, etc.). I looked at numerous elder communities with my aunt before she moved here, and you will not find anything better (although you will find others that are also excellent - the final choice is determined by location, cost, environment, and personal preference). I would not at all hesitate at all to choose OC for an elder community!

After several months on their waiting list, my father's financials and medical records were reviewed to ensure that they could care for him this review included the doctor we requested he be assigned to . The Admissions Director informed us they had a room for him and arranged his transfer. On that day my father was loaded onto transport and my brother went to the Dwyer Home ahead of Him. When he arrived the head nurse said that they wouldn't accept my dad because of new information she had received, supposedly that day. She said my dad's records showed he was a wanderer and sexually aggressive. Everything she said was a lie. The case worker didn't send any new records that week, my dad is not a wander. He is not even ambulatory. He can't get in and out of a wheel chair. He is not on a locked ward and he isn't capable of remembering or entering a code in a key pad to open an exit door. Additionally my dad has never been aggressive. He's had the same health care assistant bathing him for 20 years and she adores him. So did his caregivers in assisted living and in his current nursing home. The nurse at Dwyer Home didn't call us to tell us they wouldn't accept him. When my brother went out to get his paper work. The nurse locked him out. No one from the Dwyer Home ever returned our calls or emails to apologize or explain. I jad explained to the Admissions Director, who told us she had a bed for him, that I was very worried about the care he was currently receiving. He had gone from walking on his own toBnot being able to adjust himself in bed in just a get months. Additionally, they had him so medicated he was sleeping all the time. She assured me that they could treat my dad's sun downers without over medicating him. My father served his country his entire life. He retired as a a lieutenant colonel after 20 years in the US Airforce. He worked at NASA, FAA, DOT & MITRE. He was one of the 1st US military personnel stationed in England to install intercontinental balistic missiles at Dwight D Eisenhower's direction during the cold war. He worked on the guided missile system that support the us moon landing He lead the FAA project to develop radar to direct aircraft while taxiing. He lead the JTIDs program that provides a 360 degree view for us fighter pilots. He retired from the military, civil service and private corporation saving his money to live comfortably during retirement.

The facility is beautifully and thoughtfully decorated, meticulously clean, and maintains a quiet, calming environment. Patients are treated with genuine care, and it clearly shows in the staff's daily interactions. As a private duty nurse working with individuals who have dementia, I have seen many facilities and never have I found one I would feel comfortable recommending for my own family an. South Cove Manor is an exception. I would confidently choose this facility if such care were ever necessary. The majority of residents are Asian, though the facility is welcoming to all. Staff members speak a variety of Asian languages, which is a significant benefit for residents and families. While I have not personally tried the food, I have not heard any complaints. Residents appear well-adjusted, well-supported, and consistently cared for at a high level--something I cannot say about most places in this industry. A+
