Cavernous and a smallish good sized venue. I had fun people watching here and my friends and I really enjoyed the show we saw.

WTF! If your over sixteen this place will make you feel like you're 60. And don't even think about ordering a cocktail because they'll just throw shit in until it looks like the color of the cocktail you ordered and charge you twice as much. My friend ordered a drink and the bartender had to read the menu to know what it was. Also the DJs playlist doesn't play anything past 2000. I spent a sunny evening in late summer in the patio area an came away feeling I'd had the perfect chilled weeknight out. Nothing majorly exciting, but good DJ, good vibe, tasty enough food, decent cocktails. I agree that the drinks are rather pricey for what they are and where you are, but if (or rather when) I feel like vegging on a sofa in the sun again this summer, I'd definitely come back. read more

A trendy east-london venue, with dodgy-ish food and overpriced beers. You're probably here for the music unless you like hanging out with the crowd, and it's a nice and small venue to see Hexstatic. However... they do tend to pack you in so don't expect to be able to dance or indeed move if it's sold out... which kinda spoilt the experience for me. read more

cargo is one of these places that remains special. they have a wonderful terrace which is a must in the summer, wonderfully decorated and comfy. inside, a host of sofas makes the places very appealing, and there is a chance to eat food that doesn't look bad. nonetheless, i can;t say since i haven't tried. cargo wouldn't need to, but they host a great and varied line up with artists of a host of differet scenes. i saw, among others, the egg and nathan fake which is one of may favourites, playing life. yeh, they do have a considerably big room for live gigs. it could be a bit expensive, as some people say, but pints are less than 3 pounds as far as i remember and squeezed orange juice is a sound option for afternoons for just 2 pounds. check their line up, as i have said, they bring up truly underground artists you won't see anywhere else. read more

Quite cool place in the middle of Shoreditch. If you like electronic music you will most likely also enjoy Cargo. The outdoor area is really nice and you can go out for smoking, socializing or listen to the live sets. read more

Of all the Shoreditch hot spots, Cargo is a definite favourite. As a venue it's great - not too big, the stage is the perfect height so you can see from the back, great sound, and they feed the bands through the Pa in the lounge so you can still hear if you just want to sit or need some place a bit quieter. The bar area is really nice, full of comfy leather sofas and not too loud to have a conversation. Their garden is great too - nice in warmer weather, and rather private feeling, but perfect year round if you need a cigarette. read more

I would say Cargo is one of my favourite former venues in East London. I've had some ace nights there and they've played host to some excellent events, as well as striving to find interesting new bands and acts to put on. Unfortunately of late and due to new management the venue has become a bit of a stick in the mud, with the music becoming much more commercial and sentiments generally being geared to making money and attracting City boys customers rather than your typical Shoreditch dwellers. Which is a real shame since it was clearly a venue that focused on the music and attracting a younger, creative crowd. Who knows what Cargo will be like in five years! read more

I just wish you could give negative stars on here! The worst night out experience ever!!!!! Pay £10 to get in, and spend most of your night queuing to give your coat to the cloakroom and then once you are done, you might as well get back in the queue to get it back. Ridiculous! The food is actually pretty good!!! they do happy hour in the early hours of the evening. Unfortunetly the start charging for entry at an early stage and the crowed is a little dull. I would only got there to sit with friends outside have a smoke and a quick beer and some food but not to have a night out, too expensive and nothing special exept if you into the band playing that night. read more

Been to Cargo for Groundation gig and had great fun! the venue is splendid! all those arches everywhere and the nice sofas perfect to chill but also to go and dance. there is a great atmosphere and people are very friendly. I wouldn't say that englsih people are a majority (I heard more french than 'yeah man' lol) but it is a great melting pot. the only problem I had was that the room where the gig took place was so packed that I could barely breath. But I suppose it just means that it is successful and I am not the only one enjoying it! there is also a great garden outside for the smokers, all arabic inspired. you can always be pretty sure that you'll have a seat to appreciate your ciggie. check out for their gigs coz they have great stuff coming up and it is not thatexpensive. mainly reggae. drinks are normal price but they always come up with the weirdest cocktails (see 'screw the monkey' lol. A quality venue with a reputation for brilliant events, ranging from Hip Hop to Jazz. The programming is consistently original and the venue is a breath of fresh air in Shoreditch. The courtyard graffiti is famous and changes regularly - one of the best places for an outdoor ciggie in London! Housed in two arches, the vibe is relaxed and friendly. The sound is great but lacks a certain intimacy. When there arent many peeps around it feels deserted. Nevertheless this is a sure-fire way to check some great music. read more

Loved this club when on a trip to London. The crowd and music played all night were excellent. We went to a hip hop night with a DMC champ and beatboxers playing. Was outstanding. Has a really nice outdoor smoking area which was good to chill in and to chat to friends away from the music. Very recommended. read more

Cargo is one of these places that just have everything you need for having a great time: different nice rooms, good selection of drinks, tasty food, a huge beer garden, good music, concerts what else do you need? The only negative point is that if you don't arrive early you probably won't find a place for seating, because it gets quite crowded; and the fact that it opens till late must be emphasized, as well. read more

Sadly this place has a terrible door policy. Staff is unbelievably rude. i used to go there every so often and have a good time with mates but not anymore. Cargo is built in to the arches just off Shoreditch high street. Its a nice setting inside with the exposed brick arches, lots of seating and a big stage and dance floor. The big garden (with lots of benches) is good for the smokers but the doorway to the garden does get pretty congested with everyone to-ing and frow-ing. It has a respectable line up of live acts, from a variety of genres, playing most nights of the week. You can buy gig tickets beforehand from their website and most are £10 or under. read more

They do so many random free nights for different things here - I've been to a music software demo, a book launch, and an all you can drink thursday night special! Good vibe, but it does need to be full, because it's big and can seem a bit lonely without a load of people in it. When it's raving, it's raving though. read more

Cargo is an excellent music venue as there is a separate space for the performance and another for lounging about. Saw a shoe-gazer indie band play here and had a drink afterward. It closed up pretty soon after the music and they started that annoying throwing away of the bottles which created a horrible vibe while patrons were still finishing up. Have been to Cargo for club nights before and yes, it does get pretty rammed but that's what I usually expect of that kind of night...After a day's mooching in the area, we popped in on Saturday evening at around 6pm just out of interest really. It was cosy and chilled out, only a few groups of people relaxing on the comfy seats and the atmosphere was very laid back. I would definitely recommend it as a place to go before the evening begins or just for a spontaneous quiet drink. read more

Undoubtedly the worst nightclub I have ever been to in London. We spent New Years at cargo, £30 a ticket to queue for over an hour and a half, to be told that our tickets were "pre-midnight" despite no indication on them. The door staff were incredibly, rude, unhelpful, and ended up throwing people out throughout the night for being either 1. Being in the way or 2. Being too tired. It got to the point where around ten of us were outside in the early hours, with all of our things inside the cloakroom without being allowed any re-entry into the nightclub (Even after the free 6am afterparty, and being told we would be allowed back in) They wanted to re-charge us double the entry fee just to return. Do yourself a favour and avoid this nightclub at all costs, complete waste of money on both a drinks front and general quality of service. read more

My friend organised a table and put £200 down in advance for the area and some wine vodka and a few mixers. When we arrived the table and area was not prepared and security staff got extremley rude with us telling us to move away when we just wanted to ask who to see about our table. Got their early (before 10.30pm) and still had to pay £20 per person to get in (there were 15 of us) thought we were going to get charged £10 each because of the £200 we'd already put down in advance and for getting there before 10.30pm. When the alcohol arrived it looked very minimal, decanted in to their own flasks so hard to see exactly what they had given us. Tried to ignore the rude welcome and enjoy the night, but when my friend made that horrendous error of standing on the sofa to take a photo of us all- instead of being asked not to do it again, she got shouted at that she was to be chucked out. His words "I want her out." When we calmly tried to change his mind, the security seemed to get even more enraged and was extremely rude and angry stating that he doesn't need to give any "final warnings" and behaved in disgusting threatening manner. Seemed like he just wanted a fight. We didn't want to stay after that and left shortly after, not wanting to spend another penny in such an amateur "club" with the rudest bouncers I've ever encountered. They should remember some people actually just go there for a good time with money to spend in their pockets- we were treated like an inconvenience from start to finish. read more

Cargo is one of the main bar/clubs in Old Street and offers a child out atmosphere with some great live band nights. I recommend Wonky Pop , which has had some great performances including Mr. Hudson and Library in the past. If you are looking for pop tunes or RnB and a great place to dance this probably isn't for you. If you want to relax and talk with friends for parts of the night and then listen to great live music you should check it out. read more

I love this place! Seriously, I love it. it is big, it has an outside area which is also huge. It plays good music, and it seems like there are three rooms if i remember correctly. One with a huge bar and two smaller ones at either end. You can party all night, or party then chill outside or on their comfy sofas. Located under a bridge its one of those iconic locations with the entrance opposite a big typographic painting (cant remember what it said) that was the backdrop for a tv advert recently (2011) cant remember the advert. great place to go. can be long queues to get in. Let's go to Cargo! Cargo is a great new addition to Old Street. The area has been dominated in clubland by The Aquarium and 333 and it's nice to see somewhere new. Cargo is very different with the amazing world music bands that play. The place is cavernous with pleasant staff and a good local crowd. Even the doormen are polite which is rare. read more

I would recommend steering clear of this venue. Although the club itself is large and the music of a good quality, the risk that one runs is falling foul of the irrationality of the door staff and the club management. A quiet word to the general manager regarding the fact that it was unacceptable to have to wait at a quiet bar for over 10 minutes for service was met with a firm hand on the shoulder from a security member and a request to leave the premises. An interesting response to polite criticism, which also resulted in the withholding of belongings in the cloakroom, which were only recovered after speaking with a plain-clothed policeman after two hours of asking to speak with the management. Certain members of the door staff were responsive to our requests, but the general management, particularly a certain Mr Gaddes, were rude, unnecessarily confrontational to paying and sober patrons, and irrational. I will certainly not be returning at any point in the future and would recommend individuals attend other venues in the area or surrounding areas rather than this club. read more

Awful. I will never return here. Management were rude arrogant and hide in no way that they were just trying to make the most money out of you as possible. Was made to queue for an hour and a half and then told that i was late and made to pay entry after i had already pre purchased a ticket. Ticket holders queue was made to go slower so that more people were forced to pay extra. Blatant exploitation of customers by management and extremely rude service to the point where i walked into the venue in tears caused by the way i was treated by staff. Over priced drinks, awful music. very light inside. Avoid coming here at all costs. If looking for a club in shoreditch, try XOYO, or somewhere else, go anywhere but this terrible place. read more

My boyfriend and I paid £25 for their Halloween event this past weekend and showed up to the club with our ids and tickets printed. They let me in with a group of girls but kept him back saying someone had scanned his ticket and his name wasn't on the list and tried to just shoo him away. AFTER HE PAID 25 QUID. When he got rightfully upset and asked to speak to a manager he was pushed against a wall by two body guards. I tried to go out and explain the situation but instead of dealing with our issue they kicked me out too saying I was suddenly too drunk. Not only was I fine, they were happy to let me in 'too drunk' when I was single, but once I had a boyfriend and wasn't an available single female it was easier to kick me out. I still can't believe this actually happened. I paid £25 for absolutely nothing and was treated with so much disrespect by the staff there. I had heard awful reviews before but decided to give it a go which I regret a ton now. And for £25 the inside was nothing special. Easily the worst Halloween of my life. Thanks cargo. read more

oh what great fun we had on a Sunday... I'm not sure if it was a combination of Brazilian dancers, BBQ, awesome DJ, a maze of a terrace or just the fact I was on the fire water, but I really had a good time. In retrospect the whole day was a little surreal as I rarely make it out to not-so-east London and the company I kept had amplified any sense of normality I was entertaining. It was the first time I didn't care how drunk I was... The DJ, awesome in a world of her own just playing tunes... I think I instigated the dancing, I'm not sure but no was before I started so there... The decor was cool loads of random things and some actual Banksy's, two of them. Had a great time but I don't think I saw the whole thing, I got "Fabric-lost" and went round in circles. The best way to make into an Afro-Caribbean-British fellow heart is by combining West meets West Indies foods and the Jerk Chicken Burgers went straight to my heart.... 'twas awesome. was a little expensive but I got over with free drinks from the owner... and few shots. Was a great time, and a great end to the night. Bathroom was cool and clean and well looked after and I'm starting to think that everyone drinks Sagres in Shoredich?? I think that's about it. read more
