I am Carillon's newest employee and I will work in administration at the corporate level. I have just completed the hiring process and was very pleased to have been able to spend time with the President, Finance and the Operations teamleads. Each one was both personable and extremely knowledgeable in their position. Everyone had only the very best of intentions to care for their Senior Communities and those sheltered there. In reading these reviews, I was sad to see that as is true of most reviews, the bad experiences are statistically the 8 in 10 majority. That said I will take away from this that since there are so few bad reviews that Carillon must have an overwelming amount of satified supporters. This is also evidenced by their success as a business. There are many senior care communities that are much cheaper but quality amenities are costly, that said, if you can afford the quality then you can afford to choose elsewhere if we didn't meet the high standards. Assisted living facilities are, for the most part, disappointing ... yet for some of us, a necessary evil. That said, it is crucial to find one with a staff that is not only simpatico, but aware of your loved one's needs. It's better still if you can find a place with a well treated staff, to reduce turn over rate. Good luck with that. As for us, the Carillon of Hillsborough fills the bill as best as it can. No, it isn't perfect, although I wish it were... Carillon is clean, warm, and well maintained. The staff is (for the most part) a caring bunch, and the folks in the office are willing not only to hear your complaints and/or suggestions, but to act on them as well. I was summoned here for an job interview. I didn't feel comfortable being left in the meeting room for over 30 minutes alone. When they thought of something to give me to do while waiting, I was given a job application and their company manual to read on the position I applied to. One woman came in and made an excuse for the other not coming in to sit with me. She sat with me finally for over a hour, mostly attempting me to see the job as something I did not want. However, when it was finally over, 24 hours later, I was turned down for the position. Why do people waste your time if they know they do not want to hire you. Carillon Assisted Living Fuquay-Varina has major issues and it shows more and more by the day. Over the past few years, I have had the privilege of becoming friends with several residents my wife...who works there (or at least does until they find a way to fire her because I wrote this HONEST review). Two residents are family friends through our church...with one being a distant relative. Others I have met through her, because she thought I would enjoy hearing their life stories. Either way, when I visit them, it is as a friend...not as the spouse of an employee. Recently, while visiting a resident with my daughter while waiting for my wife to get off, the resident complained to me that her tv was not working and that she couldn't get anyone to help her. As I did some basic troubleshooting, I noticed two issues that were causing her problems. I fixed both (the main one being that someone had unplugged her tv) and the other being an extra cord that was not needed. She was thrilled and we were happy that she had her tv back. Simple problem...simple fix. My wife walked with me and my daughter to visit another friend, who happened not to be there that day. I told her to finish up and we went to wait for her in the lobby. I forgot to mention that a storm had come through and the roads were covered in ice. She can't drive in this weather and so I chose to help her by taking her...so they wouldn't be short handed. As we waited, the resident care director, Gail...and another woman, Valerie, came and addressed me. Gail informed me that I was "not allowed" to help a resident because I'm an employee's spouse and I'm not "covered" if something went wrong. Then they walked off. I went back in the center behind them to further address it. She clearly remained on point that I was only a spouse, even when I explained that we were visiting the resident as friends. I asked several times about the difference between resident's friends helping them and an employee's spouse helping them. She refused to acknowledge the difference and showed a tremendous amount of incompetence as a supervisor by continuing to villainize me for helping a family friend when the paid staff have ignored her requests. If you need a place to put your loved ones...I beg you to do your research. There are many review sites that back up this sentiment and encourage you to go elsewhere. Your loved ones will receive basic care. Anything above and beyond will be scarce if anything. As for Carillon, they need to make sure that it is clear that unless the spouse is on their payroll...they do not control them. Families...including those of staff...CAN have friends that are residents. I have never been more insulted and embarrassed. My daughter adores several residents and they look forward to seeing her. Now that is in jeopardy after they pulled this stunt today. I'm not sure I want her in an environment where people who are supposed to care for people show so much contempt for someone who cared enough to help when they failed to do their jobs. Maybe if they had left their offices or the nurses station they would know where they are needed. read more

I didn't see a listing for the Carillon Assisted Living in Wake Forest area. I'm hoping my review can help someone that may be researching senior care for their loved ones in Wake Forest. Like most senior care facilities, there is a high turnover rate and "not enough help". My loved one has had to sit in her own urine, waiting for someone to come help her. So while the facility charges incredibly high fees to live here, the aides working there get paid in beans until they get fed up and quit. The ones left have to do the work of many, which means patients suffer. This country really needs to step up senior care and set regulations for these places. I guess it's not as bad as the place across town. read more

Well, here it is 7 days later and still no form. We have had the insurance company send another one and we have EMAILED IT AS AN ATTACHMENT twice. Apparently, Director of the year equates to inept computer skills. Is the form difficult? State License No. Federal Certification No. So other than sign date and provide your licensing info that's it. We should have held off on payment as they have no incentive to download the form from their email and write in a few numbers. Perhaps they need some baby talk. I can understand the turnover now. It would be frustrating to try and do your job providing care and running a facility when the management staff assigns you their administrative duties because they feel they are above administration. We got excited yesterday in the mail when we saw an envelope from them - nope, it was the schedule of events. No statement on the recent fire. The only thing the fire has done is updated wording in a contract to cover their ass. Right now this is the only assisted living facility in Southport until the big complex opens up so if you can hold out for Pine Forest Plantation..... read more

Carillon Assisted Living may look clean and present a warm caring attitude however that is just a front. Carillon only cares about money, especially if you can pay privately. If you have Medicaid they may accept you but be prepared to jump through hoops. And if you can pay privately they will play numbers games to the get the most of you. For example, they may offer you a lower rate for the first couple of months however be prepared for a cost of living expense so enormous you end up paying more than the published rate. Carillon is a modern day hustler. What I mean by that is when you sign up with their community as a private pay individual, they expect you to be able to pay at least 18 months. If your money runs out before the 18 months they will discharge you leaving you broke! Now what are you getting for your money? Let's see... You pay $3,600 for a double occupancy room the size of college dorm room. Your loved ones are attended to by a PCA, who by the way is not licensed by the state in any way. The food budget for Carillon is $3.00 a day per resident. Really that $90.00 a month. That's about how much it costs me to feed my dogs. So where is the rest of the money going? Think about it, you can get an efficiency apartment along with a state certified care taker and sign up with the town senior service organization (for socialization purposes) for a lot less than $3,600 a month. Carillon likes to scare families, it's one of their tactics. Trust me, I know all too well. Carillon has many competitors than offer the same quality of service if not better for a lower price. read more

Carillon Assisted Living in Southport NC should NOT be classified as an Assisted living facility but as an Independent living facility. There is a huge safety risk for falls and infection. They do not provide a schedule for resident showers, cleaning residents rooms, assisting in personal care, toileting, and laundry. Trash is not checked or collected on a daily basis. The meals in the dining room are lacking in quality. Residents are expected to attend meals in the dining room although if your loved one needs assistance to the dining room, good luck. Meals will be brought to the residents room an hour later, cold and with a charge of $3.00 per meal. The med techs are inexperienced and there is a lack of knowledge of the medications they are dispensing to the residents. Unless your loved one is independent in their care and can speak for themselves, they will struggle and will lose their dignity in the process. The facility is beautiful, and everyone is so nice but the staff is expected to perform tasks outside their job descriptions. ( Ex. the only registered nurse in the facility is expected to serve and clean up in the dining room). This leads to limited time to adequately perform their job duties and limited time to be available to assist the residents that need help. DO NOT send your loved one here unless they can fend for themselves or unless you can be there to provide their care and be their voice. read more

I previously worked with this company, not at this particular location but the one on old wake forest road. I highly highly highly recommend that no one put their loved one at any of the locations if you truly love them. The management treats their employees like they're the scum of the earth. They're ghetto, rude, condescending, obnoxious and unorganized so imagine how they would be to residents. None of your information as an employee is confidential so you should take that as a hint that your loved ones won't be either. They hire anyone of the street some of which won't care for your loved one in ways they need to be cared for. The turnover rate is so ridiculously high that it's impossible for the residents to feel comfortable. How would you feel if there was always someone new coming into your room and "helping"? There are so many other places to it your loved one or to even work. Avoid this place at all costs. McDonalds or janitorial work would be jobs that treat you better. A super 8 would be a better place to put your loved one. read more

The purpose of an Assisted care facility is to to assist in caring for people. If you are looking for a place to help care for a loved one, this is not that place. If I could title this review it would be "Medication Errors". We are fortunate that no harm came to my loved one. They are very aware and know what they are taking and do not blindly swallow what they are handed. As frightening as this is, nursing and management were aware and the mistakes did not stop. In addition there are issues with cleaning. The room was not regularly cleaned and the sheets did not get changed. I don't mean the sheets did not get changed very often. I mean the sheets did not get changed. Again, even though management was aware and promised to correct the issues, they didn't. I have made repeated calls to the corporate office and have not ever gotten a response to any of my complaints. All this said there are a few people who work there that are awesome and really do care. Unfortunately the bad management out weighs them. I am glad no harm came to my loved one. There was more than one error made and it could have gone badly. I am glad they are no longer there. read more
