I have been a client for 18 years, 2 chihuahuas, one poodle, one big yellow cat, all well cared for he is a skilled practioner. He put down the poodle, no issues. The day the cat was dying I called to take him in for the final curtain. An extra charge for 'emergency', the cat died in the garden while I was preparing him for Caring Hands. I thought that was unkind and disrespectful after all those years. I got a new cat from the shelter. She has hot spots, so I swallowed my resentment and called for an appointment. A 'deposit' was required because she is a 'new' animal.. It is 2026, I have been a client since Dec 2008. There are others, the Humane Society, Cares 4 Paws, Caring Hands, so much for him. Get rid of the staff, and the Vet in charge! That's how they can improve. I went in because my puppy had an ear infection and to get his nails cut, the staff took him in the back and 10 minutes later they brought him back to the room where I was waiting, my poor puppy was gasping for breath,he kept pacing and he wouldn't let me comfort him and then he through up all over the floor. It broke my heart, I started to cry and asked them "what did they do to him back there?" Nobody said a word. The vet came back in and said to get him a tranquilizer and then gave my poor puppy a shot to calm him down. After a few minutes he finely started to calm down, and all they said is, "from now on your puppy needs a setitive before he gets his nails cut" I was furious! Then I was told to "pay at the front desk." I couldn't believe that I was charged over $300.00 dollars, because they had the nerve to charge me an outrageous amount for the shot they had to give him and in my opinion for using excessive force on him to cut his nails, and whatever else they did to him in the back. I've been meaning to write a review for this place for quite a while. A few years back my dog had a large open wound. I called her normal vet and they couldn't see her for a week. A WEEK! I called every vet in the area and each one asked, "Is she an established patient?" When I told them no, they replied that since she was not an established patient they could not see her for a week. Caring Hands was the only place that could take her that day. They were kind, loving, affordable, and I was so grateful for their ability to see her on such short notice. I even trusted them to perform major tooth extractions. Regretfully, I used her previous vet for her upcoming vaccinations and vowed to never go back to a place that I did not respect; for multiple reasons, not just because they could not take her in when she was in need. Caring Hands became my full time veterinary clinic. Each visit we were met with the best care I could ever want for my dog. My girl has since passed, but I have finally convinced my daughter to come here and give up on using a vet that strung her along and never healed her dog's multiple health issues. Trust these people. I wanted to add to my review about this Vet. I should have listened to my dog. Every time I took him to the see doctor Farshid Kiaei he would growl and try to bite. He was trying to tell me something. When I took him to another vet he was just fine, he never tried to bite this new vet. By the time I found out he had cancer it was too late. This vet did nothing to help him or me. I asked for some tests or something to be done, all he could do is blame me for my dog gaining weight, when in reality it was a liver tumor that was growing. He never put anything I asked for in the medical records. He completely ignored anything I wanted. All he could do is brag how he never took vacations and really wanted to. Now he is building a nice new building to move his practice into. I am scared for other pet owners. I guess they need to learn for themselves. I hope this review helps someone. read more

I took my 15 year old Lucy to this vet. Lucy has been sick for a few days and now she doesn't want to eat. The vet doctor Farshid Kiaei said Lucy needed to have emergency surgery because her uterus might have a severe infection or she will die, and that the surgery has only a 60% chance of success, meaning Lucy could easily die during the surgery. The vet wanted to charge me nearly $2000 for the procedure, he said it could be even more because Lucy will have to be at the hospital a few days, I told him we could not afford it and that we want Lucy to be comfortable her last days with us and let her peacefully transition at home, the vet got angry and threatened me, he said he was going to report me to the authorities and to Humane Society if I let her die like that. It's been over a year since Dr Massey's departure March 1st 2018, and both my dogs have continued with scheduled shots and diagnosis with regular check ups. I have to take my younger pet for monthly shots for his itching. Previously we had tried apoquel but it got him sick so we tried cytopoint and now I'm very happy with the results. Dr. Kiaei and his staff have been excellent in service and Dr. Kiaei's expertise with medicating my pet. Had to demand to see xrays I paid for and all other blood test info they just didn't care to inform me unless I asked. We're actually very satisfied carryover clients from the business change a number of years ago. We've been bringing our dogs in for the better part of 8 years now, possibly more. The scheduling seems to be right for us, never more than a few minutes in either the lobby or the exam room. We usually bring our whole pack in for nail trims, and they get done quite quickly. We have an old dog without an aggressive bone in his body (put together by a committee, has at least 3 breeds in his lineage), a younger dog who is a bit dog aggressive (terrier breed / rescue) and a second younger dog that's nervous about everything (chihuahua / rescue) - and they all get treated well. The staff is professional and obviously cares about what they're doing. Dr. is amazing, and quite funny with the dogs. All around good experience. read more

The veterinarian didn't answer any of my questions directly, nor did he ask me nearly enough about my dog or our routines. Yet despite not knowing anything about us, he managed to also be very judgmental. This is the second or third time I've been to see him with my senior beagle, with a year or so between visits. Every time worse than the last. Plus yesterday I called the office after I left to correct my dog's age in their system, since they had her age as 2 years younger than she is on my receipt, and the secretary would only agree to add 1 year. Been seen here three times: 1) acute visit, 2) wellness exam 3) scheduled procedure. Price can be anywhere from average to steep: $55 for a wellness exam and $700 for dental cleaning is typical; however quotes for urinalysis ($100) and blood work ($100-175) are higher compared to other clinics. Responsiveness and friendliness of the front staff is good. Always got prompt replies when I emailed or called. Getting information accurately is an issue. I got different information from the vet tech VS. front staff when I called to get information about the pre-op. Not anything unsafe, just inconsistent. I also did not like how the vet didn't answer all my questions or explain the procedure/anesthesia during the dental consultation and instead made jokes in response. Overall, I would have appreciated more thoroughness, but otherwise the pets came out alright and I believe he did a good job in terms of providing appropriate veterinary care, so can't complain there. read more

I brought my dog here because animal clinic of Santa Maria was not allowing owners to go inside with pets due to Covid. My senior dog has been coughing for a couple years but had gotten worse. Had x rays and blood work done over two visits. The doctor had prescribed an anti inflammatory pill for her arthritis in April. When I called to get more in December I was told she needed to have another examination. I asked why when she had just done blood work but was given a vague answer. I requested my written prescription(which I was never given) and was told there would be a $10 fee for it. I have written the state veterinary board regarding my rights to a written prescription amd waiting a response. I think it is unethical that I was not given a copy at time of service or upon request. This doctor wants you to buy medications only from his office. read more

He will never give you a prescription to fill at a REAL pharmacy. And he once told me that I would have to continue to give my cat a certain medicine and I could only buy it from him. First I would just like to say the front desk staff and vet techs were very kind and empathetic to us so this is in now way a reflection of the entire staff. However the doctor was what really put me off. This morning I took my 7 month of puppy in because he ingested socks and had vomited them up this morning and yesterday. So we took him in to make sure he had no more socks or objects he ingested. Everything seemed fine and dr recommended X-ray and blood work and we opted for X-rays to be done. They sent X-rays to radiologist for further analysis. Dr came back to report that the radiologist had seen a foreign object and recommended surgery or an ultrasound and the dr heavily pushed the surgery as if it was an urgent emergency so we thought that would be best. He was very odd in his demeanor and was very manipulative even saying he was going to perform the surgery on his lunch as if he was doing us a huge favor by doing his job. We had even signed papers for cost of surgery when the dr mentioned "if he found something" our dog would have to stay over the weekend at the hospital. I asked what he meant by "if" since I thought that had already been determined. He backtracked and mentioned the ultrasound again saying that there "might" be something. Why would you be okay with having a major surgery when you're not even sure that something is in there? We didn't want to subject our puppy to surgery on a chance there was something there let alone pay the 3k+ they quoted us for the "exploratory surgery" as the doctor said. We then decided to get an ultrasound, and when I was given the report from the radiologist, surgery was never even mentioned in the chart! So we went to get an ultrasound with radiologist that vet and low and behold there was absolutely nothing, no foreign object at all! This dr was perfectly okay with doing an open surgery on a 7 month old puppy and for what? The money? I was so disappointed and glad we got the second opinion. Please do NOT go to Dr. K. read more

The clinic seemed to just be hungry for money. I've been there a few times and at first it felt like they were friendly, but over time, it just seems like they wanted my money. For a place that is also supposedly LGBT fridndly, they kept commenting on my dog's pink collar. After visiting the clinic, my dog got an ear infection and they would even exaggerate that they had to flea bomb the back room when my dog had no signs of flea scabs. He has caught health concerns that other vets have missed, and I am thrilled with his knowledge and thorough exams of each one, even on simple vaccinations. Every day I drop off my large shepherd for daily treatment, and every day I am grateful to them all for the very special care and consideration he receives. Questionable sanitary practices result in nightmare for dog owner. Ever wonder what could possibly go wrong at the Vet?.... My mom took her perfectly healthy dog to Caring Hands Pet Clinic (CHPC) for a wellness check, required to get a prescription for flea meds. A few days later the dog became stressed, drinking excessive amounts of water and urinating throughout the house. The dog was taken back to CHPC and was diagnosed, treated, and billed $500 for a urinary tract infection (UTI). My mom is now out a total of $760 plus a house full of stained carpet when all she wanted was flea meds for her dog. She's a 94 yr old widow surviving on social security so $500 is a big deal. I called CHPC to question why she should be responsible for the entire $500 UTI bill when the UTI was likely contracted at CHPC . I was met with arrogance and dismissiveness - essentially if I can't prove the dog got the UTI at CHPC then CHPC bears no responsibility. This is a 15 yr old dog that doesn't leave the house/backyard nor comes in contact with any other animals. Being dismissed is offensive and speaks to how CHPC views and does business with the community that supports it, but the bigger issue surrounds CHPC's procedures in place to ensure infections are not transmitted between animals. This episode highlights how a poorly run business with poorly trained staff can have serious consequences for a pet owner. Thankfully there are many fine alternatives to CHPC. read more

We used to love this place when Dr. Massey was there but it has been nothing but horror since she retired. This new "Doctor" Farshid is a total hack! Took my dog in there for lethargy, loss of appetite and a slight limp. No one even bothered to take her temperature!! During the exam he did not bother to check between her toes or the underpad of her foot. Seems like he just assumed because she's a bit overweight that she has some soft tissue issues with her shoulder. He tried multiple times to get me to shell out more money for x-rays. He did not bother addressing any of the other symptoms I had brought up, like her loss of appetite, lethargy, or change in behavior. When I got home later, I saw that she was limping because she has a biiiiiig cut on her toe pad that would have been clearly obviously seen had he just bothered to look at her toes like any sensible person would!! Doesn't take any fancy medical training to look at toes and the bottom of a foot if something is limping! Pretty simple concept. I called to voice my concerns and he calls me back and ARGUES with me like a child, completely unprofessional and rude! He tells me he doesn't want clients like me there anyway and refuses to refund me or even apologize for his obvious mistake, even though now I have to take her to another vet to have the actual issue addressed by someone who's qualified and cares! I would highly recommend and urge that if you care about your animals and $$$ to find a new clinic. DO NOT GO HERE ANYMORE!!!! PET-OWNERS BEWARE! We brought our 9 week old Boxer puppy for an exam. Was immediately concerned about the 1st appearances, looked like a low budget clinic, concrete floors, felt like I was at the animal shelter. It was very hot, had fans but no AC which had me concerned if we had to leave our dog any length of time for surgery or spaying etc... Waited in the hot exam room for over 1⁄2 hour. Dr Farshid performed the exam and advised me of a couple shots should be done and flea and dewormer medication. I agreed to the shots I had told him the breeder gave Panacur & Albon and he seemed offended and said "you need to trust the doctor not the breeder" Instead of helping me understand the pros and cons of the meds he was advising, he says, you need to make up your mind, I have another room to attend! I was shocked! He never even finished the exam, he did not listen to her lungs, did not listen to her heart, did not check her ears and did not hear my concerns. Our breeder is of very high regards and has many years experience and is registered and recommended by the AKC. She is not a vet but probably has more knowledge about Boxer health, diets, and preventive measures and definitely has more care and compassion than this so-called veterinarian. As you can tell, I will never return to this not so "Caring Hands pet clinic"! read more
