-REAL HEROES!- IN AN EMERGENCY-THIS HOSPITAL IS THE ONLY ONE TO GO TO.... We were making dinner last week when we noticed that our dog was having trouble standing. So we jumped up to check on Him and start the search for what He might have gotten into. We searched the room that He'd come out of and spotted the unopened bag of candy laying on the floor... The candy He'd gotten into was a bag of candy that had Xylitol (Poison for dogs) in it. We were Horrified! So we jumped into action, called the closest Emergency Pet Hospital in Goleta, Ca. they were no help us...nor did they recommend a hospital that would. So we continued the search on our own...frightened that we wouldn't get Him there in time. We finally found a Pet Emergency Hospital in Santa Maria Ca. about 2 hrs away that warned us to get there as quickly as we could and they would wait for us. When we arrived, They had already spoken to Poison control and were all and ready to start on him. When we arrived, the woman behind the front desk was clearly waiting for us. So she alerted the Doctor on call who was ready and handed the bag of the Xylitol candy over to them to see exactly what we found. They were prepared and ready to work on getting the poison out of his system. Before his liver was damaged. We were pretty shaken by the time we arrived but they were amazing... they explained the process that they has to take and assured us that they would keep us apprised of how things were going and what would be next. We were immediately made aware of what was necessary to get him out of danger and what would come next. We were trying to breathe normally and act like grown ups but not sure we pulled it off. So we waited and told often how He was responding and what would be next, with time commitments, et al. The other thing that is really was the most impressive to us was the treatment that we were given throughout the entire visit. We've over the years, had dogs, cats, and not once did we see refreshments for those of us waiting for any news while the time passed. In an emergency situation, the last thing you think about is eating. But, there were chips, cokes, coffee provided to help us all get through the long night. The women here were comforting, positive, and available for any and all questions at any time. I'm leaving this review because I hope my experience can spare other pet owners unnecessary time, money, and stress. After my dog ingested a cord, she developed indigestion followed by significant discomfort when swallowing. To avoid the overcrowding at my local emergency veterinary hospital, I drove her to PETS, hoping she would receive timely, quality care. Unfortunately, my experience at PETS was one I wish I could have avoided. From poor time management and communication to feeling as though maximizing revenue was prioritized over appropriate patient care, the entire visit left me with very little confidence in the team. I understand that veterinarians are obligated to discuss all available treatment options. However, I also believe an experienced and ethical physician should use clinical judgment to recommend what is medically necessary rather than presenting every possible intervention when the ultimate conclusion remains the same. Had I not had a medical background, I believe my visit could have easily exceeded $2,000. I also felt pressured through fear-based conversations. Rather than using her experience to provide reassurance and guidance, Dr. Chu repeatedly emphasized worst-case scenarios and strongly encouraged hospitalization overnight. As the evening progressed and I witnessed repeated delays and poor follow-through, I lost trust in her recommendations and in the team's ability to care for my dog. I arrived around 5:00 p.m. I gave verbal authorization for subcutaneous fluids and chest X-rays early in the visit. However, the X-rays were not performed until nearly 7:00 p.m., and the fluids were not administered until I was preparing to leave around 1:00 a.m.--approximately eight hours after I arrived. Waiting more than five hours for treatment that had already been authorized was unacceptable. The experience left me with more questions than answers. After speaking with my primary veterinarian, I realized much of the uncertainty I experienced appeared to stem from a lack of confidence and clinical judgment rather than the complexity of my dog's condition. This experience added unnecessary stress during an already emotional situation. Thankfully, my nursing background helped me ask the right questions, advocate for my dog, and avoid additional expenses that I did not feel were justified. I hope this review helps other pet owners make an informed decision. No one should have to question whether their pet is receiving timely, appropriate, and trustworthy care during an emergency. read more

I took my bulldog in for a cardiac event, and they were very thorough and very kind to her and myself, especially once I came to decision to euthanize her. They fed her yummy treats and brought her in on a comfy bed. They allow me to spend a couple hours with her and then when it was time to go, she went quietly, so I'm sad, but I'm grateful she was able to spend time with such a considerate group of people they took good care of her. read more

Horrible change in attitude. I was told to bring my dog back for a drain removal and prescribe specific antibiotics since he had a resistant infection. For 3 days I was told they were too busy to see him. Today I was told to go somewhere else. I never got the results of his tests. At this point he needs euthanasia and they said they would call me in to get that done but never did. My regular vet will squeeze him in tomorrow but his days of pain and lack of treatment make me very sad. read more

For a 24hr urgent / emergent matters are solid. Front desk girl was sweet when we came around 6:30pm on a weekday , however I've knocked 2 stars down due to a vet tech - who honestly gave horrible bed side manner. I came for an issue although it's not emergent or urgent to her , my fur baby is still my paw-child. I understand the triage process and she said that out of nowhere as we patiently waited an hour to be seen which I thought was weird. No need to explain how busy it is to me. I am pretty aware it's the only local pet er/urgent care in town. Making it seem like our issue wasn't really important to me and more stuff , but it doesn't matter. My husband and I came home at 3 am to a heartbreaking situation - our 2 year old beloved Dixie girl was horribly injured (still don't know what happened), to the point of paralysis. I called PETS hospital, brought her in and we were taken care of immediately. The staff was amazing, so caring and understanding. We could not have had a better experience and Dixie girl was at such peace as she crossed over the rainbow bridge. Everyone there was so wonderful. My little a-hole Cosmo got short of breath due to his tracheal collapse. We were on vacation from San Diego through Solvang and then to San Francisco. On a hike in his stroller mind you he kept honking away from excitement and eventually irritated his trachea. We got back to our hotel and did all the things and he got slightly better but not right as rain. So off we went to the Pet Emergency. Everyone was so sweet and wonderful. Our experience with this pet hospital was deeply troubling. Our dog Scout was hospitalized for a week following her surgery. We visited every day after work and while visiting we would see our dog respond to us even briefly, lifting her head or trying to move. Despite this, we were repeatedly told that she was not improving, could not walk and was unlikely to survive. We were strongly encouraged to euthanize her and were made to feel that continuing treatment was the wrong decision. What was especially upsetting was the manner in which these conversations were handled. Instead of feeling supported during an incredibly difficult time, we felt pressured and judged for wanting to keep fighting for our dog. I have to say this was not all staff, as this was one vet taking care of Scout and the reports we would get on her shifts daily from her. Ultimately, we made the decision to remove Scout from their care and signed her out against medical advice (AMA). The paperwork stated she was released on Hospice Care at home. She was not discharged because the hospital believed she was improving; we chose to take her home with G-tube and medication and all to take care of her ourselves. What happened next is why we continue to question the care she received. On the day we took Scout home and told Scout were going home Scout, Scout got up and tried walking out on her own and when putting her in the car she jumped in herself! Does this sound like a dog that was not thriving??Once home she continued to improve and began thriving. Six months later, at 13 years old, she is enjoying life, active, going for walks, happy, spending time with our family back to her old self. No one can predict exactly how long a senior dog will live, and we understand that veterinarians must prepare owner for difficult possibilities, however the difference between what we were told and how Scout actually recovered left us with serious concerns. We also question whether enough was being done to encourage her mobility, recovery and over all well-being during the week she was hospitalized because of her age. Given how certain they seemed that she would not survive, we found it surprising and disappointing that there was no follow up call regarding her recovery. At least a phone call would be expected having so much concern they expressed for her. We are sharing our experience because other pet owners deserve clear communication, compassionate treatment, and confidence that every effort is being made to help no matter what age for their pets' recovery. Very grateful to the surgeon who came in to do Scouts surgery and the Veterinarian who discharged Scout who was very helpful. read more

Our 14 week old puppy got sick with poisoning that started to get liver failure with not much help of survival. The team at Pets Hospital went to work with their intensive care, treatment and turn the course for our puppy. She was in intensive care for four days and is now home with us recovering. The team was incredible. Every member was friendly and knew exactly what to do in their job. It could not have been done without the teamwork provided amongst the doctors aids and administrator component of the clinic. They worked a miracle and my wife and I and the rest of my family are so pleased with their care. Polly was in pretty bad shape with a stomach disorder. They worked me in and we waited for about 2 hours as others were ahead of us. It was well worth the wait. Our cat got very sick at 1am. It was comforting to have some place to take him right away. Very compassionate and caring staff.

We have used this location twice now and wouldn't consider going anywhere else in the event of an emergency! To detail our experiences: 1. We were out of town and our cat was breathing abnormally. Our pet sitter brought him in and the team promptly identified the issue, treated him, and patiently explained every detail of the process to us to make us feel as comfortable as possible with them treating our baby without being there. We were able to pay remotely and got all of our questions answered right away. They made the situation as easy as they possibly could! 2. Last night, we had a very scary experience with our dog. We brought him in right away, and the team gathered information from us efficiently to take care of him as quickly as possible. He was very uncomfortable due to the nature of his illness, and the employees clearly made his comfort and care their utmost priority. While caring for him, employees even offered refreshments and a blanket for us, since it was the middle of the night, to try to keep us comfortable. The people at this location took their time assessing him and discussed the case with us at length to ensure we were all on the same page before following through on the plan of care. Vets, vet techs, and front desk personnel all worked in unison to make the difficult situation a little more bearable. Two vets ended up assessing our dog in an abundance of caution to ensure that the right decisions were being made for him and our family. I really truly appreciate medical professionals who work effectively and cohesively to ensure the highest quality of treatment is provided. Both vets spoke with us individually and patiently explained everything to us. In fact, the night shift vet even offered me gloves and invited me to feel a piece of concerning tissue to ensure my complete understanding. While this may not work for everyone, the vet knew that I myself am a medical professional and it was so kind of her to offer this to me as part of my education and understanding of the situation. I really appreciated this opportunity, as it will help me to understand his baseline and continue to reassess the problematic area as we treat. To me, this attention to detail and empathy from the night shift veterinarian went above and beyond what I would have expected from anyone at approximately 2am. Today, the day shift veterinarian also went above and beyond. The treatment process for our dog is going to be extensive, which understandably comes with a price tag. She took the time to research the cheapest options for us to fill our prescriptions (Chewy vs. pharmacy, etc). Seriously, WOW! That was so kind of her to do for us as we navigate this difficult time for our family. Since our dog requires upwards of 7+ medications in the near future, this was so helpful and really helped to set us up for success. Our dog will be undergoing treatment for 20+ weeks, and the veterinarian on shift took additional steps and time out of her day to make this more financially doable for us. To summarize, we are truly so grateful for the compassion and quality of care that a cat and a dog of ours received at this location. We would 100% recommend them. They saved my dog. Simply, without their 24/7 care my dog would've died a sad and painful death. I am so grateful for the work PETS hospital has done for my dog. Unfortunately they are very busy most of the time but the staff was always willing to help no matter the time of day. My dog had to be hospitalized for about a day. They kept us informed on his condition, as well as putting together multiple treatment plans that helped our budget and made the overall experience better. It's always a sad thing to see pets going through so much but the staff were supportive and direct, something I really appreciate went making these hard decisions. Okay, so I went to this vet ER, and it was a whole mood. Waited an hour just for them to tell me, "Yeah, you're not getting seen anytime soon." And I get it, my dog's ear infection isn't a life-or-death situation, so I'm not even mad at the vets. I can't speak on their skills because I never saw them. This review is 100% about the chaotic customer service. The front desk staff? A total train wreck. The person helping me kept walking away mid-convo and literally ghosted me. And the walls are so thin, I could hear them in the back, just gossiping and laughing about their personal lives. Like, for real? I'm sitting here stressing, and they're just chilling. And the exam fee is $205! Absolutely not. You can go to the AG Emergency Hospital, pay way less, and actually get some attention when you walk in the door. My dog, a Support Animal and I were at a dog park. She was attacked and severely injured by a highly aggressive dog. It was Saturday, 4:00 pm. My vet office was closed, and various vet hospitals were either out of business or so overwhelmed they could not take another patient. But Heidi was accepted by Pets Hospital ER in Orcutt, CA. The attention, compassion and care by each staff member was outstanding not only for Heidi but for me as well. I was distraught. Due to the nuances of Triage, where the seriousness of injury determined next-in-line for treatment, the more extreme injuries were understandably treated first. I was offered leaving Heidi overnight which was unacceptable. I would never leave her. Christine, staff member who should get a big raise, and named Office Manager, was so attentive, keeping me apprised, minute by minute, of attention to Heidi, I'll be forever grateful. Dr. Brown, surgeon, clearly explained the procedure and followup. All other staff were on the same level. Christine saw my concern and allowed me to wait, and spend the evening in an exam room with a couch, TV, blanket and all the snacks and drinks I needed. I cannot thank the staff enough here at PETS Hospital. My dog, Zola, cut and bursted a blood vessel from her front paw so she was intensely bleeding everywhere. I called and let them know I was on my way and needed help. As soon as we got there, Laura took great care (for the both of us!). I was so emotional and she remained professional and so kind the entire time. She was so empathetic and made me feel comfortable. Zola had to undergo an emergency surgery that night. While they were prepping her, Laura explained everything so thoroughly and the entire process. They even let me give Zola a hug and kiss before she went in. (So kind of them because they had to calm Zola down because she wanted to leave with me). Once she was done, Dr. Gerhart was so sweet and updated me about what took and how to best care for her. I HIGHLY recommend this pet ER. My dogs got into some stuff, and they were so helpful, patient, and knowledgeable. We brought both in and they triaged them quickly and put us in a room. Dr. Deanna and Dr. Peyton kept us updated and were realistic about what was happening but also kept us feeling calm and hopeful. The receptionist, Kimberly, was also pivotal in keeping me sane - she was kind, continued to give me updates even when she didn't have to, and offered help often. Besides the wonderful staff, the office is very clean with lots of free snacks and drinks and charging ports and cords. Both dogs came home the same day and were well cared-for. We brought our almost 14 year old Cocker Spaniel in on a Sunday to have her checked for quality of life, she was breathing very heavily while at rest and she lost all her appetite. I have to credit DVM O'Hara, Connie, & the rest of the care team for the fact that my cat is alive today. My cat became very ill on a Sunday. This meant our regular vet was closed and I needed to think fast. After a quick Google search, I was on the phone with Connie who walked me through possible scenarios before we even arrived. PETS were able to diagnose my cat within just minutes of arrival. Since my cat had a urethral obstruction (a life-threatening condition), he was treated as high priority & began receiving care immediately. The entire staff was professional, patient, and compassionate throughout all of our encounters. Dr. O'Hara regularly kept me updated on my pet's condition throughout his hospitalization, and Connie had a wealth of information to share/answered all my questions. I do have an issue with the way they do their billing. Full payment is due upfront in order to receive treatment (no progress payments offered). Nevertheless, overpayment refunds due back to customers are processed in 2 weeks time. I did request that my refund be issued back to my card but was told I had to wait for a carbon check for 2 weeks. I would think that since payment was collected through credit card, it should also be refunded that way or, in the very least, be issued in a timelier manner. I wanted to thank everyone at this hospital for providing excellent care for my Teddy. Everyone was super friendly and they got us in right away as a walk in. Prior to bring him in I was very nervous about Teddy's condition but staff was so kind and helped me feel better. Teddy had to say over night but I was comfortable leaving him there, know that I'm he was in good hands. They also have comfortable rooms with a couch and TV while waiting and they provide complimentary snacks which was definitely a bonus. Superb treatment and care with a kind and loving staff! The staff immediately put my precious dog and me in a very nice room with a couch where we could wait. We didn't wait long. I left my Lulu in good hands and I received phone call updates from the doctors. I went back to the ER that evening and reviewed the test results with the doctor. Made the decision to move forward with a major surgery. Boy, am I glad I did! Lulu is fully recovered and more feisty than before. We were dealing with a very stressful time (displaced from our home due to the January 9th storm of 2023) and I believe that she was determined to stick around and take care of me. We are fans! Brought in one of our Labradoodles about 9pm on a Sunday because she was passing blood. She received near-immediate care, and we got the results of her blood tests by midnite. Her follow-on care was very good, and we were able to bring her home w/in 24 hrs. So relieved our dog is back on the mend. Service was superb, from our first telephone call to verify they could see and treat our dog, to the multiple follow-on calls with the staff and the Vets.
