WORST clinic on the entire CA coast. Invisible 2 staff. I was asked to come back and hold my GOLDEN RETRIEVERS because were "aggressive" WHAT? barking (not growling) problematic? Forced me to hold my dogs down, she clearly messed up on admin a shot, she twisted it In my dog twice b4 dropping it.INCOMPETENT. Biggest regret coming to this chop shop. If you love your animals GO ANYWHERE ELSE. Sincerely RN

I had them put my dog Daisy down and cremate her. They misspelled my dogs name on everything this is literally making me cry. She was my baby girl and for 16yrs. Horrible people c'mon do your job! I didn't pay all that money to have this done in memory of my dog Daisy.

Beware! This lady spanked my dog! She also accused me of laughing at her when I simply smiled. She is unprofessional

WARNING DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE! Brought my dog for her shots and to get her nails trimmed. Prior to getting her nails trimmed I asked for the price- we were told $10. My dog started to cry as she was put on the table to get her nails trimmed, the lady in the back made eye contact with me and I smiled at her...While getting her nails trimmed my dog was spanked multiple times, I was watching through the window. When we paid I noticed on the receipt that we were charged $20 for her nail trimming. When we inquired about the price we were told that it was because my dog was freaking out and it took multiple people to restrain her. I told her that next time she should warn people that if dogs freak out during a nail trim there will be a higher fee... she then POINTED AT ME ANGRILY AND ACCUSED ME OF LAUGHING AT HER (which leads me to believe the extra fee was because she was angry). I corrected her and told her that I was not laughing at her, I simply smiled when we made eye contact. She then told me that next time my dog needs a nail trim she will need to be sedated... now I'm wondering what kind of people work here.. clearly incompetent people that cannot handle a dog scared to get her nails trimmed. So in conclusion... if you bring your dog here, DONT SMILE (it will be misinterpreted as you laughing at them) ; beware that the prices are subject to change depending "on how many people need to restrain your dog" or (depending on the supervisors mood that day); and keep an eye on your dog when they are in a different room because you never know how they will get treated when you are not around (my dog got spanked).. She told me next time my dog will need to be sedated... I told her next time I will go elsewhere. Again, IF YOU LOVE YOUR FURRY PET, DO NOT COME HERE! I have attached a photo from SMV Humane society Facebook. That is the angry unprofessional lady that spanked my dog and accused me of laughing at her.

Miracle workers is how I feel about this clinic. I brought my 5 year old pit in with a stomach problem, he was refusing to eat and was vomiting any water he would drink he was very weak when I brought him in and our family was very worried. I was referred to them by Care 4 Paws. The doctor talked to me personally and asked me what was going on and they took him in on short notice and really helped me out. The doctor was comforting and gave me full details on what our options would be and really felt like she cared for my dog. The techs also showed so much care and compassion for him. I cannot stress how well my dog was looked after while in there care. I am so grateful the doctor was able to perform an emergency surgery and see my dog do so much better after. He is still recovering but he is happy and not in pain when we first brought him in. Thank you Santa Maria Humane for all you did for RENGO and for all you continue to do for other pets. You are a Godsend.

We had our shih tzu spayed here about a month ago. We drove from Santa Barbara because our humane society stated they could not operate on a flat-faced animal. The Santa Maria humane society was so great! They gave clear instructions for pre-surgery and afterwards. She hasn't had any complications. We felt safe with their staff and highly recommend them!

Over the last 12 months there have been really questionable staffing decisions that have led to decreased welfare, increased deadlines for adoptable animals, and a general loss of teamwork and communication. I've seen staff who are self-proclaimed "trainers" stress dogs out while completely ignoring that the yard they are working in is filled with feces. I've watched staff pretend they are the "manager" while trying to take credit for other people's work at every turn. This is an organization in a downward spiral. It isn't fair because it's the animals who suffer. Those who have stuck around are there despite the organization, not because of it. It's been heartbreaking to watch.

I adopted 2 kittens (littermates) from this location and it was extremely easy and cost me next to nothing. I am also a foster in their system which allows the option of "fostering to adopt" a pet so you can see how they adapt to your other pets etc. Of course you can also just be a foster as well. Another great thing they have is that you can take a shelter dog out for a day to get them. You can do so anytime without calling ahead. The downer is that dogs only get walked for a few minutes so they can use bathroom so I feel for the animals that spend a long time there. I'm sure it feels like jail. If you can adopt, check this out. Other places like Woods and humane may have more "customer service" bc they are better funded but the animals who will benefit the most are probably right here.

We waited a minute and then I said that we are interested in a kitten. She responded with "we don't have any cats." We said OK, where can we look at the dogs, she responded very impatiently "out the door to your left." We saw a nice big cat in the cage to the right. Then got lost and asked someone where the dogs were and she said to the right. We found our way, looked at the dogs and found a little Chihuahua that we liked. On the way out we stopped to ask her about the Chihuahua, she was sitting beside another employee and she said "you will have to wait." Then she continued her conversation for a minute or 2 and we walked out. Exceptionally rude, power hungry receptionist. Overall, the condition of the animals and their kennels was very good, so someone cares, just not that receptionist.

I've adopted a few dogs from there, over the last 20 years. For whatever reason, the different people that they've put behind the front desk over the years, are rude, inept, passive aggressive, and lazy. It's been that way for years, no matter who they give that position to. They act like a DMV clerk who's doing you a favor, by letting you rescue an abandoned animal. I made an appointment to see one dog last week, which meant I was the only person in the building to see a dog, and the woman behind the desk is pouting and sighing, and rolling her eyes, as if she's overwhelmed with work, and doing me a favor. I had a noon appointment and arrived on time, but the door was locked, and nobody would answer the door. I had to call again, she kept me waiting outside, so I walked in as the last only non staff person walked out. Apparently that started her brain to short circuit . I told her over the phone, and in person, that I was just there to look to see if that particular dog would be compatible with my current dog. If I saw that is was, I would come back with my wife and my dog for a meet and greet. She didn't seem to care, and made me waste my time filling out an a long and intrusive adoption application form, which I'm almost positive has already been "lost or misplaced" and which I would have to fill out once again, if I were to ever go back. The whole time she's acting like an overwhelmed secretary, she got one whole phone call, and stressed out, while lecturing me on why I should have brought my dog with me.. Again, just super passive aggressive, for no reason. She had a couple of really sweet staff members who were tending to the animals and were helpful, but even though I was already there, they wouldn't let me see another dog, "because of the Covid thing.." !'m not sure they understand how that works. They said I would have to make another appointment to see another dog! So, I would have to go outside, call, make another appointment to see a specific dog, and then wait for the woman behind the desk, to pull her hair out, before the last appointment (which was me) to come to the door to let me in. Absurd is an understatement. If whoever's in charge actually cared about finding a home for abandoned animals, they would hire some competent people to work behind the desk. I have more stories of incompetence of other people in that position , going back years... but I don't want to write a book here. The other half of the review is concerning the scam they are running with Pet Finder, to grant them first pick of any highly desirable/ profitable dogs on their list of adoptable dog profiles, one day before the public can adopt them. The shelter gets paid for giving these scammers the rights to first pick, then Pet Finder markets the dogs without revealing where the dog is located, charges people nationwide, application fees, and nobody ever gets the dog if the dog is bringing in high revenue. Disgusting. I had to learn this from the woman who answers the phone at the shelter, after trying to get a straight answer out of her became like pulling teeth. I just wanted to know why they tell people to check if a certain dog is available after a certain date, but if the dog is cute, it's already gone the night before it was available for adoption. Why post profiles of dogs which they KNOW are never going to be available , as if they are adoptable? That is sooooo low! Just say that the dog is available for owner pick up only ! Don't sell them to a virtual online puppy mill that scams as many people as they can, out of their money. I don't care what kind of shady quid pro quo arrangement they have with Pet Finder; I will be informing the local news, if I see that this happens to one more dog. They should be defunded and Pet Finder needs to face a class action lawsuit. But don't take my word for it. If you don't believe me, check the Pet Finder reviews
