It was good that I was able to walk to the bathroom after a week there, as at times aides were rarely available to help. During meals, night time, and at changes of shifts, I waited for assistance quite a bit. Some of the CNAs were better than others. I only got 3 showers during the time that I was there. I found the food poor, and ate PB & J sandwiches many evenings for dinner instead of the overcooked vegs and fish that was offered. Lastly, I had a double room and was sleep deprived due to being kept up half the nights by demented room mates. I was very happy to get home! If I ever have to go to rehab again, I would not go to Margaret Tietz!

My dad who was blind and suffered from Alzheimer's/Dementia wasn't treated well at all. There were oftentimes that they would just let him sit or lie there and not feed him and you would hear the nurses/aides cackling and laughing, speaking their creole in the dining area and give you a bs excuse just to not feed him. I wonder how many days my dad went through without food in his system or how many HOURS he was sitting or laying around with a soiled diaper. My dad already was getting bed sores because they weren't moving him at all. This is a place for you to leave someone that you don't care about and let them rot because the staff on the 6th floor don't give a shit about them. You can make all the complaints you want and they'll treat them well because you're there watching them but best believe that once we walked away until we come back the following day, he was ignored and we would have to do the whole process again of arguing and letting them know that your loved one isn't being treated well. Imagine if they were treating my father like shit and we were constantly going there to check on him and calling them out on their lack of care, I can only imagine the ones that barely get any visitors, how they were being treated/ignored. Healthcare officials need to make surprise visits to all of these "care centers" and see that the staff are not doing their jobs at all! That there's no type of "care" all all. How they're having these helpless patients suffer in silence. If you really do love your family member, please don't bring him/her here unless you're going to be there for long periods of time. Don't be fooled by the new renovations and how "attentive" they look when you're touring it, it's all a facade.

She took blood pressure and told every aide who was there that they weren't doing anything correctly. In end of life they said someone would come and no one even showed up. Nor did they ever offer their condolences. Only one social worker, Myya, showed any humanity and offered sympathy. II've used VNS Hospice for my mother and they were hands-on. They were there at the end of life. The right people make you successful. Hospice of New York should be more than a purchasing agency for supplies.

I felt that Hospice of NY did not advocate for my mom's care and did not provide the family of our options in order to make my mom comfortable during her final days on this earth. I am extremely disappointed and would NOT recommend Hospice of New York . We need to advocate for our loved ones who can no longer do so themselves !!We need to speak up and get them the care they deserve .

Most people probably vaguely plan to pass away peacefully at home, perhaps surrounded by loved ones. But this isn't possible sometimes. For such times, an inpatient hospice facility can handle end-of-life transitions peacefully and respectfully -- for the most part. Calvary Hospital is one of the larger hospice providers in the New York City area. ArchCare operates the 18-room Dawn Greene Hospice under the banner of Calvary Hospital, at the Mary Manning Walsh Home, a nursing home in the Upper East Side. The Hospice is on the 15th Floor. Patients may expect to suffer a few frustrations: - Patient records may not transfer smoothly from previous healthcare providers. - The food is not good. The hot water could be a little hotter. - Patients may be discouraged by staff from using the in-room bathrooms, and asked instead to use underpads or bedside commodes. - Patients may be discouraged by staff from leaving their beds. - Some weekend staff seem less responsive and responsible than most weekday staff. Many of these limitations are understandable. Hospices are designed, staffed, and funded for palliative care; not emergency care, not curative care, not assisted living. That said, staff could be better trained in wound care. The duration of a patient's stay at a hospice may be anyone's guess. The balancing act between the incredible resilience and tragic frailty of the human condition can be unknowable. The one surprise of our experience here was that they asked us to remove our loved one on the same day as death. This hospice, as with most, apparently does not have a morgue, and must comply with health mandates. Do have concrete plans for a funeral home or mortuary as your loved one enters a hospice. Visitor Logistics: - The best way to reach Dawn Greene Hospice is via mass transit, as on-street parking is scarce and nearby parking garages are expensive. However, parking websites / apps may provide coupons for nearby parking garages. - Consider making restaurant reservations or using Yelp's Waitlist feature early if there is a possibility of eating dinner in the area -- the best nearby restaurants do fill up early. - Visitor check-in / check-out is handled by the nursing home. - There is VPN-friendly Wi-Fi. Ask for the password at the front desk. - A patient shower room by Elevator Bank A serves as a makeshift visitor bathroom. (Each patient room has its own bathroom, but with a non-lockable door.) - The Family Lounge is a comfortable room, with a television, circular conference table, individual lounge-style chairs, a loveseat sofa (i.e., seats two), a refrigerator with freezer, a microwave, a K-cup coffee / tea maker, and a cold water and ice dispenser. Weekly meal menus for patients are posted here, as is the meal delivery schedule. - As a reminder, items placed in the refrigerator / freezer must be labeled. - During the Covid-19 quarantine, visitors in the Family Lounge are asked to keep their masks on and stay 6 feet apart. - There are no accommodations for visitors who wish the spend the night with their loved ones, other than the cushioned in-room lounge chair and whatever footrest can be found. This is typical of most inpatient facilities. Overall: Despite some misgivings, Dawn Greene Hospice does a good job overall in providing an important service that meets most patient, family, and visitor needs. We don't live in a perfect world; better treatment would require significantly greater systemic investment, or deeper pockets for private nursing services. I am grateful that this hospice made the last days of our loved one more comfortable than they would have otherwise been.

I did not have enough time to get there and she died with no family or friends to hold her hand. 30 minutes after they called, she was dead. My family didn't place dad there blindly, it was by choice, after weighing all the options. We have a family member who is a long term resident there currently as well as a long time family friend who is there too. They love the care they receive and the staffers they receive it from. Their recommendations were well received. From the moment I entered the front door and was greeted by the front desk attendant Lana, I knew dad was in a great, loving, caring and Holy place. I went up to dad's floor, was greeted by every staff member I passed. Not just on my first visit, but every visit. No matter how busy they were, every single person said hello. As time went on, those greetings were by name. It truly felt like dad was being cared for by loving family. My visits only lasted a week or so as I live about 700 miles away, but my experience and my opinions of my dad's treatment are fact based. He could not have received better care anywhere else. The facility was spotless, well maintained and the staff all love why they do. It takes a special kind of person to do this work. Ozanam is blessed with the best. Ozanam is even updating the rooms one floor at a time. It's nice to see the investment back into the facilities. The office staff was extremely helpful, kind and very communicative. They assisted in every way possible, making the daunting logistics of dealing with the insurance companies a less daunting part of the experience. I could not ask for better! I'd like to name everyone I met there who cared for me dad and assisted my family throughout, but I would have to name every person in the public eye as well as everyone behind the scenes there. By God's plan, my dad, Donald B. declined due to advancing medical conditions. He received great personal care and was treated with dignity up to and beyond when he took his final breath. He passed on Sept 22, peacefully in his sleep. The staffers who knew him were as sad as we are. Thank you to everyone at Ozanam Hall of Queens for all you do for every person in your care every day. This place is hell on earth for the vulnerable elderly.

After six months he is in another rehab after spending weeks in the hospital to stabilize his medication regimen. Though a beautiful place, Waterview does not care for its residents like it claims to do, does not keep in touch with family and health care proxy before making changes, and uses PA's instead of physicians for decision making, at least re. meds. Do NOT recommend for any resident with needs for dementia patients. This continues to be a severly stressful situation since being placed at Waterview, and my husband should not have been put through the stressors of dropping meds and changing them without consultation with primary doctord, our specialists, and the family. In addition clothes were lost and not reimbursed, short-staffed, night supervisor overworked and stressed, with rude behavior toward family and patients..
