If I could leave a negative star rating, I would. I hate that a one star rating makes it look like they deserve ANY stars at all. Don't expect anyone to care about the car after you drive off the lot, even when they make every assurance that your car has been "gone over with a fine tooth comb" to make sure it is in the "best possible condition". They lied. Now we are paying out of pocket for issues they assured us would not be issues. Shame on Rich and Drew (especially Drew who COULD NOT CARE LESS) for being dishonest in their dealings with customers. January 2025 Came in and met an extremely kind and professional salesman, FOOT (Theatric Donald). Not only was he patient, informative, but he did not apply any awkward pressure and seemed genuine in everything he explained. Had an opportunity to meet Christopher Steed, New Car Manager, and he made us feel at home and comfortable with going forward with our purchase. I would rate 0 stars if I could. I recently tried to co-sign with my brother for a 2020 Kia Forte, but when the "sales manager" ran my credit, they first tried to say I don't have a credit score, which is OUTRAGEOUS being that i have a 700+ score, with multiple credit cards, and even a BMW in my name. To make matters worse, the "sales manager" then tried accusing me of fraud with no actual proof, even after I showed them my 736 credit score on Experian, the app they said they used to check scores. Made an appointment online, when I got to the dealership they didn't seem to know about the appointment. Proceeded to let me sit in a waiting room for 2 hours before telling me "Did no one tell you your car isn't going to be ready today?" Uh, no? If you did, why would I still be here? So this happened to my husband. He went to CARL HOGAN TOYOTA to get his breaks changed. They didn't put the back brakes on, (and didn't tell him so when he drove the truck it messed up big time) but charged him for the brakes and the labor then told him they put the new back brakes in the back seat (which was not there either), if we wanted to buy breaks we would've went to auto zone and got them wayyyy cheaper...now his truck is up there waiting until Monday so they can recall the phone call and hopefully count their inventory to know that they have non professional/ disloyal thief's working for them! I had an emergency and needed to get my window fixed as soon as possible. They were able to accommodate me for a diagnostic appointment the very next day. I was grateful for this speedy response. I took my car in and the issue was diagnosed quickly. The necessary part was ordered and I was contacted for repair time. Everything was very transparent and I knew exactly what the cost was going to be, and this helps a lot with planning. I was able to schedule a maintenance appointment with the window repair appointment. I brought my own rain-x windshield wipers to install and I was told that I didn't have the correct adapter. Well, I looked up the parts and made sure that I bought the right windshield wiper and after some wiggling, I installed the wipers myself. I am a little disappointed that I had to install them on my own. But in the end, I am glad that the wipers were installed. Otherwise, I think the process was very streamlined. They are crooks! Went there to find out if tire pressure was low. After waiting an hour was brought out an estimate of almost $2000, full of recommended services. When I declined them all, they charged me a diagnostic fee of almost $70. I fought this but finally paid so I could return to work. Also a few of the "needed" service items had just been done at a non-Toyota mechanic shop just a week prior. They assumed I had done nothing to the car since I told them I had just bought it. My oil change took over 2 hours. & they always try to sell you something else... air clean out, filters, breaks, tires, etc. currently my car has been sitting in front of me for 30 minutes without communication. I had my 1999 4 Runner towed to Carl Hogan in Columbus Mississippi on Thursday January 26, 2023 plus I made an appointment for my oil to be changed on my BMW for that day. When I got there Nikki stated they do not do oil changes on an old model like mine, which is a 2009 model. I said well I scheduled one so that was the start of a bad review for Carl Hogan. Mind you the 4 Runner was running but making a noise and I had one of those computer gadgets to read and tell the code. The code came up as a P301 Cylinder 1 Misfire when I put my computer gadget on it. I told the service department that was what I was getting. So they (Nikki) called back on Friday January 27 and said it would $4861.01 with $2526 of that amount being labor. I asked what are you fixing and Nikki my service person said it was 1. spark plugs and wires 2. Intake tube 3. Air filter 4. Radar cap 5. u joints 6. transmission plug leaking replacing it 7. valve cover gaskets. I said fix it and she said it would be Tuesday before it would be fixed because she had to order parts. So on Monday January 30 around 10:30am Nikki had called I missed the call because I was not in an area with cell service. When I got to cell service area I called her back around 12 something. Nikki said Ms. Arnold your coil exploded on the engine and I need a new engine. I said what it was running when I brought it to you. I said something had to happened when they was working on it and Nikki stated that they never worked on it, to myself I was saying so how do you know the coil exploded but I did not say anything. So I told her I needed to speak to a manager. Nikki said I will have one to call you. So the manager calls back around 3 or 3:30pm. We spoke on the phone about the situation and I did mention speaking to a lawyer and then he I wish I could remember his name but he was a black man look about in his early fifties. He said ok I can no longer talk to you since you mention lawyer and he said as soon as we hang up I will be charging you $80 per day to store your vehicle. I hung up on him. Tuesday January 31, I was at Carl Hogan to pick up my vehicle. Nikki gave the service desk my bill. I said its $80 on her for storage and I said why and then they got this manager and he came out and said yes the $80 is for storing I said it has not been 24 hours since I spoke to you so why are you charging me for a day storage he said because I mentioned lawyer. I told him that was not right, then I asked what is the $9 something charge for credit card, he said service fee for credit card I said I have not pay you so how do you know I am using a credit card. The charge was already on the bill. I stepped out and came back in and told him I was not paying the service charge or the $80 and he said I had 2 choices the police or pay the bill. I said let me just pay this bill so I start to write a check and he said no I need cash and I said a check is cash he said no so I got my debit card and he said no cash then I got my credit card and he said no. I said I don't have the $400 something in cash on me and he said that is the only method of payment he could take. He said pay the bill or he would call the police and I said call them. Police came and I explained to him I did not have that amount of cash on me because I was going to pay by check or debit but he would not take it. I told the police he also had a charge on my bill for a credit card service fee of $9 something so that signified he was going to take a credit card for the bill but now he said cash only. Anyway to complete the review I went to the bank in Columbus and did a cash advance on my credit card to pay the bill I took the police with me and brought him back with me to Carl Hogan. My bill for them diagnosing the problems plus the $80 was $455.46, total highway robbery. I was going to pay the $4861.01 to get it fixed but I was not going to put another motor in the vehicle, it has 242,000 miles on it. I used to use Carl Hogan back in the day to do all my service on this vehicle when I brought it but the service and professionalism had gotten so bad. The workers I worked with were absolutely unprofessional and very rude especially the manager. There was one lady that worked there in the office she was very nice and she was from the Florence Alabama area I do not recall her name. I understand the diagnose fee but it was too high and It the credit card and storage fee was uncall for I should not have had to pay for the $80 storage they did remove the credit card service fee. I have never purchased a vehicle from this dealership, but rather received service many times over the course of about 7 years living in Starkville. I have had nothing but good luck with the work received at this dealership, to include basic maintenance, oil changes, tire replacement, etc. The employees do not push items that are not needed, but rather lay out the options and facts, and let you decide which items to replace or service. Took vehicle for recall and oil change. Also had issue with brakes. Brakes continued to make a growling noise after the "repair". Took vehicle to another dealer and was told the rotors needed to be turned. The recall adjustment was not done. I don't know if they really changed the oil. Told the service manager about these issues. He said he would not refund my full amount of money, but instead said he would mail a partial refund check. Told him I had been considering trading in my vehicle with them, but after this I won't. I bought the current vehicle from them. He acted like he didn't care. Took my vehicle in for an oil change and was told the alignment was out. I had the alignment fixed just 3 months before this and thought it was strange that it was out again so soon. Went ahead and had them "fix" it. The next day I took my vehicle to the shop that did the original alignment to have it checked out. Don't have proof but I think Carl Hogan saw I was a young woman and scammed me for the money. My alignment did not go out over a 3 month period doing normal highway driving. read more

I have my vehicle serviced only by Carl Hogan Toyota. Though I am happy with the routine maintenance and tire rotation, I am still upset with the service garage because I am missing a sonar sensor and I know it was protected from the elements, but the mechanic told me it had come loose and disappeared on the road somewhere. He doesn't know I spent a career in computer controlled electronics and mobile communication. I have never lost one thing I ty-wrapped to a frame because I know how to do it securely. My sonar is inoperable because I was quoted $500 to replace it. I was not negligent in how it was secured. Funny how it came loose and the ty-wraps were still intact on the frame. If they had better integrity and customer relation skills, they would have sided with the man who spent $56,000 and still lets them perform maintenance on the vehicle. They would have shored up a customer dedicated to them for all further work and vehicle purchases. I am quickly coming to an understanding they may not have my best interests in mind, rather, the $$$. This may ultimately cost them way more than a sensor. Principles speak louder than a mechanic that may not even still be employed there, yet I am still coming to them...so far. read more

While the salesman was nice enough and the deal was done fairly quickly, we left the dealership with one working key (they couldn't pair the second one), no title or temp tags, even though we paid cash (personal check), and a vehicle that seemed to be a great deal until the next day. We drove it to Tennessee and the check engine light came on. We checked the code and it's some problem with the fuel system which will cost $2000 to fix. And of course the 30 day warranty doesn't cover it and they pretty much talked us out of getting the additional warranty (you'd have to do all your service appointments here, and you don't want to have to come all the way back here...). I don't believe for a minute that that code wasn't reset to put the car on the lot. There were also two or three safety recalls that needed to be taken care of. Why would a dealership not fix this before putting it on the lot? Needless to say we're not satisfied customers. read more

I can highly recommend Vic and Chris Steed! They gave us a price before we left the house and beat it when we got to the dealership. They were so friendly, but everyone we met at the dealership was nice. We drove from north Alabama because they had the best prices in 200 miles of us. I'm so thankful we did!! I can promise whenever I decide to purchase another vehicle I will drive the 2.5 hours again. We dealt with Chris Steed for most of the purchase and he didn't lie to us one time. He answered ALL my husband's questions which were numerous, and he didn't try the high-pressure techniques that I have experienced at other dealerships. He even set-up our navigation with our home address and took time with us after the sale to explain how things worked and answered more of our questions. I never write reviews but this experience was so phenomenal that I must share! I even waited a few weeks after the sale to post this review to make sure there was not some catch that I hadn't found yet.
