Dr. Jonokuchi has been my family doctor for nearly 9 years. He is by far the best doctor I have ever had, and most likely ever will. He does an amazing job at making you feel comfortable and safe in office. He is also very good at hearing any concerns you have. If he is unable to help solve your issue, he is more than willing to refer you to a specialist. Someone he trusts. I could not recommend this man more. I am so upset at this time. I had a Dr appt with Dr Jonokuchi this afternoon. My appt was at 315. I showed up at appx 320. I had put in the wrong address 3801 instead of 3901. By the time I hit red lights and made a u turn that is when I arrived. After signing in and waiting 10 min they informed me I was late and would not be able to be seen. I said there are times when I wait well over 1/2 and hour to be seen. She checked with the Doctor and said I would have to reschedule. I am leaving on Saturday and will not be back until April 26 and my surgery is the April 28 Hopefully she said they would call and see if they can get me in. So frustrating!!!! read more

On Tuesday April 23rd during an initial consult with my surgeon concerning an upcoming inguinal hernia operation, my surgeon noticed that a diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes was on Dr. Jonokuchi's Medical Records and not on the paperwork that I had filled out for my initial consult. When he asked me if I was aware that I had diabetes, I said that that was a mistake and that I didn't, that I knew of. He said he would check into it. After my meeting with my surgeon, I decided to check into this because it had begun to worry me. So the next day I called Dr. Jonokuchi's office and asked if there was a diagnosis of diabetes on my medical records. The woman at the front desk said that there was. I asked that Dr. Jonokuchi be notified of this and that he call me as soon as possible, so that I would know for sure because he had never told me this at any of our appointments. The clerk said she would notify Dr. Jonokuchi and that he would call me. The day went on with no call even after I called again and was reassured that the doctor would call me. The next day I called again and again I was assured that the doctor would call me. So finally on Friday after no call from Dr Jonokuchi I had come to the conclusion that this was unacceptable and exemplary of disrespect and/or incompetence on the part of the doctor and his staff. It was then that I decided to call Dignity Health's administration to report this. I not only had to contact this administrative office, but I had to make an appointment with another doctor to have a blood panel done to rule out diabetes. Dr. Jonokuchi and his staff were responsible for much inconvenience and worry on my part. This wouldn't have escalated to the point it has now if Dr Jonokuchi or his staff would have simply communicated with me. I either had to know it was a mistake or that I needed to come in for an appointment. The Dr. Jonokuchi's supervisor said in Dr. Jonokuchi's defense, "He had a lot of people that needed to see him before he left for a week's leave." My answer to that was, "I don't give a damn what he was going to do. It is his job to take care of critical maters like this and he didn't get it done. So now he looses a patient in addition to an angry letter to Dignity Health administration. He had three days to take a minute out to look over my chart and call or have his staff call. That is just common decency. If this diabetic condition that he put in my chart were in fact the truth, then he was irresponsible in not following through with treatment and life style counseling. Unfortunately the truth is probably that the doctor simply didn't know not only what was in his notes, but who put them there. He was very inconsiderate in not calling me when requested by his staff if the request ever did reach him. read more

I would have given 5 stars, but Dr J sees to be too kind to do anything about his office staff. It's been a problem for me over the years - they used to be rude and short on the phone, but the latest group just seems to be not terribly good at their job. Phones aren't picked up, prescriptions don't get attended to in a timely manner, and they don't return phone messages, or follow up on requests made over the phone. Venting because I have been calling their number during normal working hours and being sent to voicemail. Not the first time I've been jerked around by his office staff, just fed up with them Dr J - he's great. But getting past the speed bumps in the front office is pissing me off. read more

We've been using Dr. J for a long, long time. He is the best family doctor you could hope for: friendly, he will take time for his patients, and he listens and remembers. As far as local doctors go, the office is usually booked; scheduling can sometimes be a challenge. So...this is long, but accurate because people need to be aware. Dr. J seems to be a nice man and my dad likes his demeanor- so maybe that's why so much gets by. But here's our experience. The office staff is rude and non-responsive. In fact, we had an issue and the office manager was to call us MONTHS ago, a call which never happened. Dr. J was the doctor for both my mom and my dad. Again...my mom WAS his patient. But, she passed away in September 2021 a month after seeing him concerning her Colon Cancer, this visit was with My mom, my dad (also his patient) and Dr. J. Fast forward to February 2022 and Dr. J demanded that my dad get blood work before refilling his prescriptions, because HE was concerned by my dad's PSA numbers being over 8.5, where over 4 is great concern, particularly since this is a side effect of his exposure to Agent Orange in VietNam. During the video appointment, because his office had COVID run rampant through the office; the doctor asked my dad how he was doing. My dad said "a bit better but still trying to get used to the passing of my wife." Now to recap- my mom was his patient AND he had seen her condition where she was down to 73lbs and dying from cancer. He asked my dad, "When did she pass?" and "what did she pass from?" Ummm...YOU were her doctor, wouldn't or shouldn't you know this?!? But back to my dad. Again, HE (Dr. J) was concerned and ordered the bloodwork to see if his medications were operating correctly AND the biggie was that he was concerned of the PSA levels much greater than 4 (they were 8.5). After no calls from the doc, we assumed that everything was good, until I was in my mom's email paying my dad's bills and saw the results from Qwest of the lab work. His white cells are way elevated and his PSA is now up to 9.5....but the doctor NEVER called to go over his results. So, in more "do it yourself doctor care" we reached out to call the DOCTOR to ask about about the results we got from the lab....kinda backwards?! But were told that the doc couldn't see him even by phone until mid-July...really?! Maybe taking on too many patients?! So, we made a video appointment with the PA at 9am, while I was taking him on a road fishing trip to get some peace after my mom's recent passing. We made sure to get to a spot with good reception and waited and waited...at 915 having had no call, we called the office and no one answered. We got the greeting telling us about their office getting many calls about COVID and it striking their office- so either this was left over from February, or they got hit again. We called 3 different times and the phone was never picked up, so assumed they were closed and continued up the mountain. When service came back the office called at 930 to say he missed his appointment....Huh?!? Because many of his friends have had Agent Orange exposure in VietNam like him, many have prostate cancer and their doctors all seemed to be greatly concerned at a PSA numbers of 7 and 8, ordering MRIs and referring to urologists. But my pop's doc doesn't seem to think 9.5 deserves a call back to discuss the results- when he was the one that ordered the bloodwork because of his concern at 8.5, which is now 9.5..... read more

I have been looking for a good family doctor who is knowledgable and trustworthy. Dr. J is the one! I called to schedule an appointment back in late October, but Dr. J was not accepting any new patients until December. I am glad I waited and got a chance to meet with Dr. J. He is very friendly and willing to answer all questions. He'd do whatever is the best for patients, instead of just prescribing whole bunch of medications that are unnecessary. Dr. J is not House. He's a real family practitioner treating real people with real everyday issues. If you need a hotshot you might need a referral. But isn't that what a GP is all about? No I wouldn't ask Dr J to perform brain surgery and I'm sure he doesn't want to either. So I'm my best advocate and I absolutely HATE it when I know what my problem is (after all I've known myself a long time), and a doctor doesn't listen to what I think or even to what I say a prior diagnosis was. For instance, I know what flu feels like. I don't need to be told to come into the office and sit there coughing on everybody else, in order to score a prescription for Tamiflu. With established patients, he will take care of that kind of issue over the phone. Dr J has been my Primary Care doc since 1997 and all I can say is, if you're able to get in, you'll love him. Unfortunately at the time of this writing, he was unable to accept new patients. That's how popular he is. In fact, he probably doesn't need Yelp reviews because he must have a waiting list a mile long. There's a reason for that. His office girls used to be pretty unpersonable, especially over the phone. Like, I'd call and give my name and there would just be silence. I guess that was my cue to say why I was calling. Awkward. It's nice if somebody at least fakes that they remember me and care. Even way back when they were surly on the phone they were always pleasant and respectful in person. Given how busy that office is every day, I imagine those girls put in a full day and might even get some nutcases calling in. So cut them some slack and I think we'll continue to see an improvement in the perky department. :-) read more

Dr Jonokuchi is a phenomenal MD. I have been with him for 30 years. Unfortunately he is now under Identity Medical Group who turned me away on January 22 after a 2 hour drive from my home in LA. Aug 23rd 5.00PM PDT, Dr.J called me telling me that his office staff asked him to call me( This is after repeated request), he called and I told him that he had seen the wrong CT scan report and given his diagnosis and I told him at his request on Feb 2018 I had redone my CT scan for August 2018 at his request, while I was telling him this on phone he pulled up the report (The Latest one August 20 2018), and said "I am Sorry" and gave me a diagnosis on the phone and was very curt and said everything was "ok", and I could pick up the report from the front desk. Next time anyone who want to get a good medical care for Cancer or any serious illness, PLEASE DO NOT VISIT "IDENTITY MEDICAL GROUP" in this center. I am in the process of getting a BOARD CERTIFIED INTERNAL MEDICINE MD . Make sure your doctors are "Board Certified" for your Primary Care Physician. read more

Plus, he is usually overbooked so you only get a few minutes with him--definitely come prepared with any questions you may have. Dr. Jonokuchi is a primary care physician near Amgen in Newbury Park, CA. I've been a patient here for about 4 years. Dr. Jonokuchi is very easy going, pleasant, and has a great rapport with his patients. The staff is generally pleasant and does their best to keep things running smoothly. The petite dark haired nurse is especially nice. It can be difficult to get an appointment, but if you have a more urgent concern the staff usually accommodates these needs. read more

He is kind, listens to what you say and responds to your needs. He has helped our family during tough economic times and has even provided samples when we could not get medical insurance. Recently change physicians to Dr. Jonokuchi, as he is the primary physician for my wife and adult kids. Despite not being able to get an appointment for about two weeks, everything went very smoothly. I arrived at the office, signed in, and within 5 minutes was in an exam room having been weighed, blood pressure taken, etc., and waiting for the DR. When he arrived (about 3 minutes later), he spent time with me discussing health issues, ordering lab tests, and giving me a full physical exam. My questions all answered, I left the office a half hour later. My appointment was first thing in the morning, so I realize that there may not have been time to generate the lag time between patients, but I haven't had that experience at a physician's office before. 28 years. Started with Dr J even before he was in private practice. 3 locations later and he's still the guy. This is his business and he listens and is responsive to anything related to the running of his office. If you don't like something, tell him. If you do like something, tell him. Just had my annual and didn't feel rushed. Talked about everything. We're close in age so 2 guys comparing notes on aging and such is nice. Things in heathcare and coverage and billing and costs are changing and like any business you adapt and do what's best for your business and your customers. He's adapting too. I love Dr J. I have been going to him for the past 14 1/2 years. I have never met a doctor so caring , and well educated as he. I have had numerous things happen to me over the years and one being life threatening (Blood Clots)If he is stumped on what the diagnoses is, which is very rare. He will call in a specialist and get some much needed answers. The office is so busy along with people going in and out taking inventory. Its like us patients its nice to say hi. I do agree sometimes I think the office girls forget to crack a smile. Dr. J is wonderful, however, his staff is not efficient in getting back to you or staying on top of prescriptions. I am speaking for my sister as she is a new patient of his. She has had problems with his staff getting back to the Pharmacy after numerous faxing and phone calls. read more
