I am sorry to say that John and this school has got to rank as one of the worst driving schools ever. I purchased a package of ten lessons and honestly it was awful. Worst of all, was John's attitude. He's a nice guy but IMO doesn't strike me as the most intelligent. Be that as it may all I ever got from him was uncertainty "Gee, I'm trying to patient with you"--relax John, you are. That's not even the worst of it, the worst of it was his whole philosophy: "Let me tell you something if during a road test the instructor has to hit that brake that means you failed"--yeah, haven't you ever heard of the old saying "if at first you don't succeed, try again"? "Let me tell you something: driving is a privilege not a right"--Oh yeah? Tell that to all those maniacs in New York City who drive recklessly and shouldn't be driving; there's some who don't even have a license or it's suspended. You might want to lecture them before you start lecturing me. Here's a kicker "Expressway driving you gotta be ready for it. Let me tell you something, that Jackie Robinson Parkway..." Excuse me John, my father has driven numerous times on the Jackie including back when it was called the Interborough; is it a picnic? No but cut crap: it's not this big boogie man like you're making it out to be. It's learnable and it's doble. Period Now remember how I told you that I took a total of ten lessons? Well John had a "genius" idea: let's give you a practice road test on the 10th lesson so that you're ready for the real one. Of course I didn't do well on it because what this moron SHOULD have done was give me mock test on the 3rd or 4th lesson (the 5th the latest) and then evaluate where we need work and go from there AND THEN if you want to give another practice road test on the 10th lesson to determine if I should attempt a road test or not that makes much more sense. Sorry folks, they hire people with low intellect like John. Not sure if he's still there. I would stay away if I were you!

I did receive a refund for my unused portions of the package I paid for. I enrolled as a complete beginner and made that very clear from the start. Instead of receiving patient instruction, I experienced an instructor (Michael) who became frustrated with beginner mistakes and raised his voice during lessons. It was also extremely fast paced for a 20 lesson full package deal. On my third day I was being taught a 3 point turn and parallel parking when I was not comfortable turning onto roads and being centered on roads. There were also communication and scheduling issues. On one occasion, I arrived for what I believed was my scheduled lesson, only to find out the time had been changed without any phone call, email, or text notification. Despite the instructor being available, I spent approximately 40 minutes sitting in the vehicle while he stopped at McDonald's and handled personal matters rather than conducting the lesson. During multiple lessons, the instructor took lengthy personal phone calls while I was in the car, including highly personal conversations that contained inappropriate language. As a student learning to drive for the first time, I expected my instructor's full attention and professionalism, not distractions and personal matters. What ultimately made me decide to leave was being told after only three lessons that my remaining lessons and road test had been canceled because I was allegedly "too nervous." I had attended every lesson, was eager to learn, and had only just begun driving. Although I was offered another instructor, by that point I had lost confidence in the school's professionalism and chose to seek instruction elsewhere. Additionally, while waiting for one of my lessons, I overheard another student discussing a negative experience he had with an instructor named Frank. Under normal circumstances I would not place much weight on another student's experience alone. However, after everything I had personally experienced, hearing another student express similar frustrations further reduced my confidence in the school as a whole. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this driving school.

I recently got into an accident that shook me up and so I signed up for lessons again to build my confidence back up and he made me feel better after just one lesson and didn't try to scam me into taking more. He's also really professional and diligent. He's always on time or slightly early for lessons, he never loses his cool, he prompt to respond to scheduling requests, and he makes sure you're comfortable on the road. He genuinely cares about who he's teaching and making sure they know what they're doing and he will doesn't care for instructors who don't feel the same way. The cars are like brand new and run really well, which I notice few schools offer. I honestly think he could teach anyone to drive and I'd recommend Beginner's to anyone.

One of the biggest issues was the lack of transparency and communication. I was told different information regarding the number of driving hours and the requirements, and I felt that customers were not given clear or consistent information. They also would not provide my 5-hour class certificate unless I paid beforehand, which I found very unprofessional. Another major issue is that they do not provide a contract or clear written agreement when you sign up, which makes it difficult to know exactly what you are paying for and what services you are supposed to receive. The instructors also did not focus enough on teaching the specific skills needed to successfully pass the road test. Considering how much money they charge, I expected much better instruction and guidance. The prices are very high, but the quality of service and communication did not match the cost. Communication was also a serious problem, both in English and Spanish. There was a lack of clear communication between the office, instructors, and customers, which made the entire process frustrating and confusing. Overall, I feel that I spent a significant amount of money without receiving the quality of service, transparency, and support that I expected from a professional driving school. I went from first time behind the wheels to passing my test, the first time, in just about two months. He's nice, funny, and patient, yet firm. He tells you what you need to do not just to pass the test, but also how to drive in real life, safely. I was very nervous getting behind the wheel. He got the nervousness out of me. I am now a pretty confident driver. He's very observant and catches the little things that you probably weren't noticing and points them out.
