    B & F Automotive - Suspension Inspection

If you're looking for automotive repairs in Maple Ridge I would highly recommend B&F Automotive…read more... they do all kinds of repairs including front end work and wheel alignment.... the owner Sherwin is a honest and hardworking mechanic and a really nice trustworthy guy

If I could give zero stars, I would. I have never been spoken to by a business owner the way I was…read morespoken to here. I was yelled at, sworn at, talked down to and accused of wasting his time simply because I asked reasonable questions about a diagnostic I PAID for. I brought my recently purchased car to Sherwin because the A/C wasn't working and paid $80 for an A/C diagnostic & inspection. Afterward, he told me the condenser was leaking and needed replacement. I also asked him to inspect the rest of the car because I was hearing a squeaking sound. The only additional issue he mentioned was the serpentine belt, which he said needed replacing. I booked another appointment specifically to have the condenser and belt replaced. Sherwin had my car the entire day. Just over an hour before closing, I still hadn't heard anything, so I called and was told he would "hopefully" be done by closing. About 45 minutes later--roughly 20 minutes before closing--he called back and suddenly told me the compressor ALSO needed replacement and the A/C repair would now be approximately $1,000. Neither of the repairs I had actually scheduled had been done. He said he had instead performed "additional testing." When I asked why the compressor problem hadn't been discovered during the $80 diagnostic, Sherwin explained that this "additional testing" involved putting refrigerant into the system and testing it that way. This left me even more confused about what testing had actually been performed during the original diagnostic before I was specifically told the condenser was leaking and given a quote to replace it. When I tried to ask questions about this, he became extremely hostile. He yelled, swore, repeatedly said things like "Why aren't you understanding?" and told me I was wasting his time for asking questions. I declined the repair and went elsewhere for an independent assessment. The second mechanic documented that my compressor is SEIZED and confirmed that the A/C system has a leak. However, they told me they could not currently confirm where the leak was coming from and therefore could not confirm that the condenser itself was the source. Combined with the compressor only being discovered during Sherwin's "additional testing" on my second visit, this left me seriously questioning the original $80 diagnostic. Even more concerning, the second inspection found very worn control arm/subframe bushings (with the control arm issue considered urgent), front tires as low as 2/32", a coolant leak, weak battery, old oil and a non-functioning centre brake light. None of this was mentioned during the inspection I asked Sherwin to perform. Ironically, the second mechanic said the serpentine belt--the one additional repair Sherwin DID recommend--is worn but not urgent. I originally chose Sherwin because he could get me in quickly, which I appreciated. However, I was left with the impression that he had more work than he had time to properly handle. That is a minor issue compared with my concerns about the diagnostic and, especially, the completely unacceptable way I was treated for asking questions. I paid for a diagnostic, lost another entire day returning for repairs that were never completed, and then had to pay someone else to properly assess my car. I absolutely would not recommend this shop. If you're in Maple Ridge, I highly recommend Ultra Tune Automotive Service instead. They also got me in quickly, provided photos and test results, explained everything clearly, distinguished between urgent and non-urgent repairs, and patiently answered my questions. They even drove me home and picked me up while they had my car. The difference was night and day.
