"You didn't give me a chance" Perhaps a once heralded business has gone off the rails? We had a small chrome chair that needed to be reupholstered. We checked the reviews, sent an email with pictures and requested a bid in October of 2022. We went to the shop on Nov 1st, decided on the naugahyde from the samples. We were aware that it wouldn't get done until after the holidays. Sensing confusion and lack of space in the shop, we offered to take our chair home until they were ready to work on it. They said, not necessary. Since it was a small job, perhaps they would be able to fit it in between big jobs. That same day, we wrote an email confirming the selection of covering based on their swatch. They confirmed that it was being ordered post-haste. After the holidays, we began to call for the status of the job. There was always one reason or another, sickness, multiple large jobs that needed to get done, or else..., etc, etc. We understood about family businesses having run one of our own. We were disappointed but tried to accommodate. Weeks then months went by but we continued to check in to hear the latest. In mid-March we called again. This time, our chair was ready! The minute we saw it, we knew the covering was not what we ordered. The owner joked about it, stating it had been so long, we must have forgot what it look liked. But, I still had the swatch and this was not it. Another follow up call, another trip to the shop. The Supplier of the Naugahyde related the owner had NEVER ordered the covering back in November. It was reordered. Then we were told it wasn't in stock. Another trip back to the shop to find an alternative that was in stock. We requested an ETA for job completion, Round 2, and we were told to call back on Friday, Mar 24th. No, not done yet. We were told to call back Monday the 27th. We called back on Tuesday the 28th. We were told that maybe they'll get to it later in the week.... See a pattern here? Earlier the owner had offered a refund, which we initially declined, preferring to just have the chair completed as ordered, after the investment in time. This time we took it. The chair was in pieces, part of the old cover on, part of it off.... Either trying to give the impression that they were in the middle of working on it, or, as we sensed, it was a big fat FU. Sad for all concerned. read more

After reading many reviews here on Yelp, we selected Carlos & Son to reupholster two love seats. We chose an intricate Asian Floral fabric very close to our original covering and we had a specific deadline since we had a tenant was moving into our condo. When possible, I hire small vendors to support their business. I always check reviews and speak to the owners. I hired Carlos & Son's Interiors on November 23rd 2022 to reupholster 4 dining chairs. I went to the store, chose the material. Was told the material is common . I understood that the business can not have the chairs finished until end of February, 2023. I have this in writing as I explained I will have many guests arriving to visit throughout March and April. I have contacted the business on a weekly basis to get updates- there was always an excuse why the chairs are not done. March and April went by, and I had to borrow chairs to make it through the season. Very disappointed, but I was still patient, through March. In April I told the vendor that I will be away for the summer, and I would like to have the chairs back before I leave. He finally promised that "for sure" I will have the chairs by end of April. I have this in writing, via text. Today is May 1st, and I still do not have a response to my follow up texts this morning. Their VM is full, there must be other customers with similar concerns. I requested my chairs and my deposit to be returned ASAP, even though that means I have to arrange for someone to be at my house and I have to find a new vendor. He saved us a lot of time looking through the fabric books as we described what we wanted but could not find the right one. He went right to a fabric we loved. We took our couch cushions to Carlos & Sons. Victor was fantastic! He worked with us until we found the perfect fabric.
