Every time I visit my hometown of Sunland Park, this restaurant is a must stop for me. No trip feels complete without picking up burritos, menudo, tamales, and pastries. There may be a few other places in town, but none of them truly compare. My go to fillings are deshebrada, chile relleno, picadillo, chile colorado, chicharrón verde, colitas de pavo, and carnitas. Everything is seasoned perfectly with just the right amount of heat and spice. The menudo is always incredibly flavorful, and the tamales are outstanding soft, moist, and delicious, with the perfect meat to masa ratio. They're also very generous with the meat, which I really appreciate. The service is another thing that makes this place special. The staff is always friendly and efficient, keeping the line moving without ever making mistakes on orders a rare thing these days. You can feel how much pride they take in their work. On top of that, the restaurant is family-owned and has been passed down to the kids, which gives it an even more authentic, homey feel. One of my favorite things about this place is the ambiance. It feels like a time capsule that hasn't changed much since it first opened, and that's a good thing. The service is quick! The prices are amazing! Coming from Oklahoma I was amazed. We got three burritos, three Mexican cokes and a donut for $21 Tortillas are made in house and the choices of meat are extensive. If you not a spicy type person then be careful cause these MF pican (Espicy)! So make sure to ask spice level. They also sell the tortillas, again the prices on those are great! read more

This place is a hidden gem. They close at 3:00 pm so get here early or it will be very likely that they run out of pastries and food. The burritos are so good and only around 4 bucks. Great authentic Mexican food made with what tastes like home made tortillas. But beware... they are spicy! So make sure to ask without salsa because they automatically add it. One of the only places where you can find colitas de Pavo and they also sell out fast. Oh and remember, eat away because it could save you from a possible kidnapping. read more

Outstanding taqueria on the Texas / New Mexico border in the area know as Sunland Park. Small, stand alone building serving some limited items from the steam tray together with top notch baked pan Mexican. I passed on the sweets and zero in on the barbacoa with fresh home made flour tortillas - Lovely! read more

I really like the neighborhood reminds me of home back in Mexico when I was kid. I pick up Apple turnover, conscious, brownies and, Barbacoa tacos. Well, sort of a 4.5. The tamales are great. We have always gotten our holiday tamales from Gussies which I think is still the gold standard and happened upon this place when I could not find tamales on Christmas eve. Amazing. Cheaper than most. Full of meat and just the right amount of spice. These are not thin but rather more the size of a zucchini. A nondescript place but a great product. The bakery section looked wonderful too but did not try it this trip. We will be back on New Year's and I think it will be our go-to place from now on, especially for tamales. Parking is a bit of an issue but just wait a bit and a spot will open up. read more

Get here early, this little gem has some seriously good eats. Breakfast is dynamite and their offerings for later in the day are homemade and taste great. We always grab some pastries or burritos for breakfast and some meat for lunch. The selection changes a bit but, it is all homemade and it is all amazingly good. I tell everyone about this place. Some things are meant to happen, and as such, that is how I found Carlos' Bakery. I was lost! I missed my turn to get back onto Sunland Park and I had to turn in here to get my bearings. It was early afternoon on Sunday and by this time most bakery's are closed, but this one was still open for a little bit. When I walked in I was greeted by the most awesome aroma- and it was not the baked goods! Past the glass cases displaying gigantic donuts and other pastries, there is a hot food section in the back- that's where all the shoppers were gathered. They were scooping up some really delicious smelling fare- perfect for an outdoor or patio picnic if you get a last minute invitation and don't have time to cook and want to take something to your hostess other than a cheese plate!!!! read more

The neighborhood go-to place for donuts and burritos. The breakfast and colorado burritos are my favorite! They are a very decent size. The donuts are pretty big as well and very tasty! Can call and order in advance just for pickup too, which is great. read more

Possibly one of the Best places to go grab a burrito or a box of sweet bread by the dozen! The lines can get long but you can trust that it will definitely be worth the wait. A personal favorite would be the Chile Rojo burrito! A family favorite is no doubt a delicious chicharrón burrito with a drink of their wide variety. Go home with a dozen of the sweet bread to share with the family, but hurry because all the local customers won't leave you much after the morning rush! The barbacoa (BBQ on menu) is the best usually runs out before the day is up. Get there early! The good This is the small town I spent my summers living with my grandma and this is the place she would always take me to :-) I am shedding a tear as I miss my grandma and this place always reminds me of her. This place has more meaning to the small town of sunland park than any other food chain or new place this is our heart. You can feel the love and the friendliness in the air when your waiting in line an also in the food, you can tell it's traditional Mexican cuisine by the way it's cooked and served with beans and there in incredibly hot chili verde. I always ask for it on the side as living in Phoenix has weakened my tolerance for spicy food I always get the barbacoa and if it's out colitas de Pavo or mole all great choices. The bad The line can get long in morning especially on weekends call ahead plan ahead, and don't be a dick while waiting in line :-). read more

Heard they had fantastic burritos so I had to see for myself. There is a wide selection of meats to choose from. Burritos are smaller in size but the price reflects that. Most are $2 and come with beans, avocado and cheese are extra. I ordered four burritos, desabrada, carnitas, mole, and barbacoa, to share. The best was the mole burrito with the desabrada (eater beware, it is spicy) a close second. The carnitas were rather dry and there was even a bone included (no extra charge). Its a quaint place with good selection but Rafa's is better in my opinion. read more
