This small restaurant chain has the very best red enchilada sauce in town! I'm not sure of what kind of chiles they are using but it is the perfect medium heat, fruity and unadulterated chile. We were very well pleased with our enchilada plates and with the service at this Lower Valley location. The plates were generous and they even served a nice sized salad and some accompanying green chile and oregano sauce for the salad. I have to admit that I came to this location because I love the food at the Montana location, but it must be emphasized that where the Montana location has good service, this Alameda location has over-the-top great friendly service. I went to the original La Pila on Alameda a couple days ago, they gave me beans from a can (I am familiar with the taste and look of canned beans) the flautas tasted like the frozen ones, and the rice was so salty. La Pila is awesome! I went to Ysleta HS but was never able to go because it was always busy during the school lunch. But now as a free adult lol me and my family go at least once a month. They are always busy and good. The service is amazingly friendly, super quick and the food come out quick as well and always really good and consistent. Definitely good food. Cheap and fast. Every time we have a competition at Ysleta High School we make the stop. I have never made the long trek to eat there, but when around it's where we go. I don't think there is another restaurant in town that you can get the quality and quantity of food for the price. Man idk what happened. Stopped back this past Friday after arriving into town and whoever the girl with the deep voice is, I recognize her as one of the daughters of the original owner, is honestly very rude and acted disgusting towards a customer. Apparently he ordered something on the side but it came out with it all over the flautas and he took it to the register to ask if he can get it remade and this lady literally blamed and insulted the cashier as a "clueless newbie who's sucking" (translated from Spanish) and told the customer "the only way you get it remade is if u pay again because it's also ur fault too" and the poor guy had this shocked look on his face and asked "well can I atleast get some rice and beans then?" And her response??? "Only if u pay for them".....who in the hell does she think she is? That business earned its reputation when her father was alive and here she is throwing it all away with her disgusting attitude. Pathetic. read more

This is the best of hole in the wall restaurants (without a doubt.) It's affordable and the food is great. I always get flautas banderas, which are rolled beef fried tacos served with guacamole, tomato sauce and sour cream. (I always include rice and beans.) The staff are always friendly. I moved here from Los Angeles a couple of years ago, and I've been enjoying the different styles of mexican food here in El Paso. A friend from my office told me about La Pila, and raved about it for weeks before I finally broke down and took a drive down to the valley. My husband is from here, and he had never heard of this place. We got in, and while a lil humid inside, we got to the counter pretty quick and we both ordered a flauta plate with beans and rice, and a nice tall drink. Prices were fantastic, especially for the amount of food we got for it. Food came out quick, and boy was it yummy! We have been buying flautas for years at this place, even though they are reheated flautas and they are stale. The salsa verde is more water than actual Chile. Today we had a bad experience and will never buy from there again. I ordered 7 orders of flautas like every time we go, I got home and was about to serve my family their dinner when I saw that I was missing 2.5 orders of flautas. I called the restaurant to let them know their mistake and the lady there ( I'm thinking manager) had the nerve to say I wanted free flautas! Believe me I had never been more ticked off by a person. Instead of trying to correct the mistake. She just made it worse. This lady has a horrible attitude, not even a smile to the customers unless you are a male. I will never go to this place again. They are long, thinly rolled corn tortillas with shredded beef inside....the flautas are made to order so are always warm n crispy and are topped (at your selection) with a sour cream sauce, tomato sauce, and guacamole sauce...it looks like a mexican flag almost....they come with a fresh side salad and very flavorful refried beans n rice (way better than at most restaurants, not dry AT ALL). I tell you...once you have these, you'll keep making the trek to the lower valley to have them again and again...I know I do and I live on the West Side! It's right next to Ysleta High School. 6 flautas to an order...the plate is about $5....for a couple dollars more make it a double...you won't regret it!! I'll give this place a try again maybe I got them in a bad day, but I was not impressed at all I can get better flautas frozen at Walmart. Also as I left the restaurant I saw four, 2 gallon size cans of Bush beans sitting proudly in there over full dumpster.
