The hospital has very caring nurses who always explained to me exactly what they were giving me in the way of medication while I was at the hospital. What was the most impressive was Dr. Grove's respect and consideration for my religious choices. He reassured me that he could accomplish what was needed without the use of whole blood products and he did just so! I healed much quicker than I expected, with minimal pain and he released me from his care within a month of a complicated, serious surgical procedure. I will be moving out of state soon yet if I ever need surgery again, I would return to San Diego North County just to have Dr. Grove help me again. Thanks so much, Dr. Grove! You are a keeper!

He made me feel at ease and I am fortunate that he was my surgeon. However, the rest of the staff at MISNC treated me unprofessionally and very poorly- the worst of which was Melanie, Dr. Grove's medical assistant. Even though my PCP put the referral in as urgent, it still took almost a month just for a consultation because, and I quote, "How do we know you have a hernia? If you're in pain you should just go to the ER and you won't even have to come here." Back and forth with my PCP about the surgeon "not having my note" and no diagnostic ultrasound was ordered. My PCP said they would order it. The surgeons medical assistant said he won't see me until I have one. So they were just going to make me wait one-two-three- four weeks for just a consultation. They wouldn't even let me make an appointment with the doctor just to talk to him!!!! PCP calls me back and orders the ultrasound. Then and only then did they finally make me an appointment. Three weeks of being told "they don't have the notes" and "doctor hasn't read my notes" to "how are we supposed to know you have a hernia? Just go to the ER." Got scheduled for surgery a month after consultation- mind you they are supposed to call within 72 hours for urgent or 7-14 business days for routine. THREE WEEKS LATER, I finally call their scheduler and ask what's going on- get a bunch of excuses about they're busy and booked up until the end of January. My referral was initially entered to consult with surgeon in the middle of October. Surgery referral was approved 11/20. She finally calls me back and apologized and offers me Dec. 11th. I had my surgery yesterday and everything went well, Dr. Grove was fantastic and did a great job. Fast forward to today and the wound is bleeding some and I'm having massive pain upon ambulation. Post op nurse at the hospital advised me to stop taking the ibuprofen and call surgeon ASAP. I called and left message. An hour later the MA calls me back and once again- her only words of advice were "Since you're in pain with bleeding you should just go to the ER." Twice now she's pawned me off saying not their problem- I should just go to ER. No different meds or anti-inflammatories. No office visit to check sutures. Just go to the ER. I tell you, I've never been treated so poorly as a patient in all of my 36 years. I've had children and this was my fourth overall surgery. Dr. Grove, your office staff does not do you justice. I have no desire to go back for my two week post op visit. I have no faith whatsoever in the staff at MISNC. If I wasn't under an HMO, in pain, and just wanting to get this over with, I would have definitely gone somewhere else. They obviously "were busy" and made me feel discarded and like a nuisance. ***Fast forward to July 2020. Horrific episode of nausea and vomiting. See PCP via telehealth after finding a protrusion at surgery site from Dr. Grove 12/2019. She recommended a new surgeon when informed about poor experience here. Saw a new surgeon less than one week later who is going to fix the now incarcerated recurrent ventral hernia, wish I was not in this position. Never once did I have to play phone tag with new office. Surgery scheduled next Monday to finally fix what should have been done with Dr. Grove. Sad about my overall experience here and wish it didn't have to warrant a second surgery to fix what he quoted were "indestructible sutures."

I want to have more treatment options than being encouraged by Dr. Andrew Deemer to have surgery . That's my last resort. I believe surgery is okay when it's the last choice for a patient to get done. I know I will have a much better outcome with a doctor who knows my medical history. Even though , I am no longer a patient with this facility. I wanted to say that Veronica's personality has really stood out with me. Veronica was very understanding about my explanation in me finding more better treatment options for my health care. Veronica is a good listener and she doesn't interrupt me when I am talking to her. The last thing Veronica said to me yesterday was that she hopes that I will get the right treatment in the new medical office I will have to be a new patient at soon. Veronica is the only person who stands out in this Coastal Surgeons Office.

When he moved to San Diego, I had to transition to another doctor, and unfortunately my back progressively worsened over time. Eventually, I felt completely out of options and decided to book an appointment to see Dr. Evangelista again--driving down to San Diego specifically to see him at San Diego Orthobiologics Medical Group. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. He immediately identified a significant change on my recent MRI compared to my previous imaging--something that could clearly explain my rapidly increasing pain. His attention to detail and clinical insight were impressive, but what truly sets him apart is his integrity and honesty. Instead of recommending a procedure at his own practice, he referred me to his former colleague who specializes in the treatment that would be most beneficial for me right now, even though he could not perform it himself. That level of selflessness and patient-first care is incredibly rare in medicine. The facility itself is excellent--very clean, modern, and welcoming. The staff is extremely friendly and professional, and you feel comfortable and cared for from the moment you walk in. I also truly believe in what they are doing there; they are clearly focused on the most up-to-date procedures and technology, and it shows in how knowledgeable and forward-thinking the team is. I will absolutely be back there in the future, but I am genuinely grateful that Dr. Evangelista sent me to the right place for my immediate needs at the time. That speaks volumes about his character and commitment to doing what is best for his patients. Dr. Evangelista truly takes the time to think through each patient's situation, explain options, and guide you through difficult decisions with empathy and clarity. I trust him 100%, and I am so grateful to have him as part of my care team again. If you are dealing with spine or orthopedic issues and want a doctor who is brilliant, ethical, and truly cares about his patients, Dr. Evangelista is the one to see.

In October, I saw a different ENT at the same practice who flat-out told me the first surgery did absolutely nothing. His exact issue? He had no idea what the first ENT even did, because he now needs to go in and perform procedures that the first ENT claimed she already did. Let that sink in. I'm now being told I need a second surgery because the first one was essentially a waste of time, money, and recovery. And that's just the beginning. I have now been waiting THREE MONTHS (and counting) just to be scheduled for this second surgery. After a month of silence, I called -- they said I'd be contacted within a week. I waited four more weeks. Nothing. Called again, left a message, never got a call back. After another three weeks, I was told they only have one person who schedules surgeries and she's "busy." That is not my problem. It should NOT take three months just to schedule a surgery -- especially one required because your first surgery failed. Appointments are just as bad. At my last visit, the waiting room was packed when I arrived. They checked me in and had me sit down. Every patient who checked in after me was told the ENT wasn't even there because he was performing surgery elsewhere and "should" show up soon. I wasn't told that. After watching several people get warned while I sat there clueless, I went to the front desk and asked if I was waiting for the same ENT. The receptionist said yes. When I asked why no one told me he wasn't there, her response was: "Oh, I forgot." Probably because she was too busy gossiping with the other person at the front desk. I had driven over an hour to get there. If I had known the doctor wasn't even on site, I would've canceled -- either before leaving home or immediately upon arrival. People in that waiting room had already been waiting over TWO HOURS. There were about 10 of us all waiting for the same doctor who wasn't even present. I complained, and only then was I pushed to the front when the doctor did show up an hour later. If I hadn't said anything, I would've been waiting 4-5 hours. That is beyond unacceptable. It's disrespectful, disorganized, and borderline negligent. Between the failed initial surgery, the months-long delay just to schedule corrective surgery, the lack of basic communication, the extreme wait times, and the financial impact to me personally, this practice has shown a consistent disregard for patients' time, trust, and well-being. If you value competent care, transparency, and respect for your time, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere.
