I just had shoulder surgery, and this facility is TOP NOTCH! The front desk staff all the way to the recovery RN were fantastic. They made me feel comfortable and at ease. The professionalism and friendliness of the RN's made a huge difference, and they made sure my wife was comfortable while I was in surgery. The facility is up to date, clean, and really close and easy to get to from the 5. If you have to unfortunately face surgery I would hands down recommend this facility to anyone, and the Ortho docs at OSNC who share the building. read more

I have had several procedures at the Carlsbad Surgery Center with different doctors and for different reasons. If I know that I need a procedure, I request that it be performed there. The staff is so caring and conscientious. They do everything they can to keep you comfortable and to reduce any anxiety you might have. The staff from the receptionist to the, techs were all extremely helpful in getting me through a stressful process. Recently I've had to have another surgery on my knee and again the process was as easy as one could have considering its surgery. Dr. Stark, who is my knee doctor, makes you feel comfortable and confident in the surgery that he will perform. All of the staff is helpful and considerate. From the front desk to the operating room. This last time while I was waiting to go into surgery, Joyce who is a nurse in that department, was very caring and kept me updated on the time frame of the surgery. After the surgery one of the nurses asked me if there was anything she could do for me and jokingly I said "I would love a cup of coffee". It was the best cup of coffee that I have ever had!! Friday I received a bill regarding my last surgery but waited until today to look into it. I was getting frustrated trying to get info through my primary and insurance company so I called the billing department at Carlsbad Surgery. I taken care of immediately by Jennifer, who was friendly and knowledgeable and assisted me with my problem. This center is run very efficiently. Had surgery in January 2014. Fell over backward few days after due to pain med (hydracondone). Dr. Stark refused to take MRI, insisted on p.t. for 4 mos., then released me as cured., said "Go do whatever you want". My doctor scheduled surgery with this facility. I received a call from Jennifer, the office manager a day and a half before the day of surgery telling me that my insurance wouldn't cover the procedure, because it was a preexisting condition and I would have to pay 60% upfront for the facility and anesthesiologist fees. It was not preexisting, so I called my insurance provider who told me they had no notation of a call to that effect. When I called Jennifer back to let her know my findings she said she had not heard back from them, but would follow up with the person I spoke with. She then called me back to say that my deductible had not been met, which was true and again that I would have to pay upfront for the facility and anesthesiologist fees. I understand their position, but reason I would not do business with their facility is because Jennifer initially lied trying to place the blame on my insurance rather than honestly stating their policy in her initial call and saving me the time and stress of believing that the cost of the procedure would even apply to my deductible. It's stressful enough having a health issue that requires surgery without the added stress of a facility who only cares about their bottom line and is unwilling to negotiate a workable payment plan. I called my doctor's office and requested a referral to another surgery center. They recommended Rancho Bernardo Surgery Center. Their fees were less and they were far more willing to work out a payment plan. read more

I would not recommend for procedures, we had appoinment for outpatient surgery, center called and said they had cancellations and wanted us to come earlier. We arrived earlier and then sat and waited 3 hours before they even did procedure. So we get here to Carlsbad surgery center before 10:30 AM for my husband's colonoscopy. He has been suffering since November with eating and within minutes running to the bathroom with diarrhea. Having to drink the liquid they have you drink the day before was agony when you are empty already. He's dropped almost 30 pounds due to this problem. I was told he goes in first and then I can go back. Do they remember or care to let the wife in? No:). An hour later I asked. I get back there and he's pissed because they said they rec'd the ekg from the cardiologist but it or some letter they wanted from that doc wasn't signed so they can't do the procedure!! Did these idiots bother to call him yesterday when they got it? Secondly no one told my spouse they needed the cardiologists permission! So My spouse said oh hell no to the anesthesiologist...We're doing this today! I'm not going home to suffer more because of this. Get my gastroenterologist on the phone! My husband said after he stood up to the female anesthesiologist, the staff scattered. They didn't finish checking him in, doing the IV etc. So after 20 minutes the doc and his male nurse came and said yes they are doing this. However the anesthesiologist is skittish about doing the anesthesia because of My husband's issues and he's allergic to many drugs (but he's had many surgeries where they give him alternative drugs). I've never heard THAT one! So they did it with no anesthesia. Wasn't fun but he got through it. The doc thinks this is colitis and wants to do biopsies. When the procedure was done, the receptionist that normally was ESCORTING family out the front door to the recovery room door raised her voice tome and instructed me loudly to go out the door and POINTED to the left to the door I needed to go to. No escort service for me!! Ok so no polyps. They found some little shaded areas that he took biopsies of in the colon that were kind of swollen. He said it could be colitis and gave me this song and dance about how when you have hard stools and constipation your colon swells up with water blah blah so I'm sorry..,he doesn't have hard stools. He has diarrhea! I said strongly that he has been suffering since November with this every time he eats and sometimes within minutes of drinking or eating something. No that can't be he said. Yes it is I said. He tried to say I shouldn't be worrying over My spouse so much and that it's My spouse's problem and I said I work full time! I'm not there all the time and of course I'm going to be worried about my spouse and concerned. I'm the wife! I care! But no I don't do helicopter wife. So then he said my husband should stay on a strict diet, see him on Thursday for the results and husband should go to GROUP THERAPY! Seriously he tried to say my husband may have some mental issues! So after he got more irritated with me he walked away. Patronizing a family member is not right and in front of staff and others is really not right. Secondly, you are not a psychologist nor did we pay you for those unbelievable observations! Really?? Stick to the facts instead of whatever that crap was! Sometimes I think when doc's get frustrated with a patient they try to put it on you to get rid of you. My spouse is a 100% disabled vet who deserved better treatment. The only staff people that were nice was the male nurse named Anthony and Nicole and Gracie. So no I don't recommend this place or the doctors that use this place. read more

The surgery center was clean and comfortable. They sent a surgical assistant into the room who was not covered by my insurance. I got a bill for $2,000 3 weeks after the surgery because no one checked and no one cared that Anthem Blue Cross would not pay this guy. On 5-4-16 I had a procedure at the center. I waited in the waiting room for almost two hours. After the nurse hooked up a drip I was left alone with further observation of contact, 8:20 to 9:45am. During my wait I listened to some of the nurses nearby planning a getaway. It was interesting to hear how each had a designated pack to bring and how the event was going to be. I really was not interested. My back began to ach and I could not lay down as the chair would not lay back. After surgery I was awakened in the recovery area to loud shouting from across the room. A nurse was in my face with a needle and a cracker. I was told to hurry up and eat it, or drink some water! I was not able to speak immediately and tried to communicate with ASL but no luck as the only one that could pick up on my comments was my wife. I simply wanted them to slow down and let me naturally regain my composure. It was hard to swallow and I later experienced inability to swallow even buttered pasta. The device that was inserted in my throat for an air way must have caused scraping of my epiglottis. As of the following am I am still having difficulty with this issue. Recovery time for me was very short compared to the wait time prior to the procedure. I am not that pleased with my experience. read more

I just got home a few hours ago after having Laparoscopic Hernia Surgery and I'm all ready feeling so much better.The last time I had surgery which was quite sometime ago,the experience was night and day.From the receptionist to the nurses Karen,Gracie and Rainer my anesthesiologist(I apologize I don't know the spelling on her name but she was awesome too) and my surgeon Dr.Adam Fierer.Everyone was professional fun and easy going.Dr Fierer has a good bedside manner and sense of humor and is a genuinely good person.I could not recommend the Carlsbad Surgery Center enough,if there was a higher rating I would have given it to them.I went in for surgery this morning excited to get it over with but a little nervous,I left feeling much better and extremely happy with my experience.Thank you again to everyone who works there and If I forgot to mention your names I apologize.I will remember how much better I felt when I left and the positive experience I had.Thank you Adam Steffan read more
