I do understand that pain management clinics and physicians are held to different scrutiny than other types of practice. And some of my issues with them may have to do with that. From the beginning my husband was treated like he was a drug seeker despite the fact that he has been under a doctors care for over 30 years for the same issues. His old doctor retired. He thought it may be better to have a specialized center for his pain but it didn't work out that way. A month to get simple shots approved which was never the norm in the past. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Calls not being returned.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Concerns met with being told to call 911.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] No thanks. We found a new practice at Scripps and I cried with relief when he was treated like a human and not a number. He got treatment the same day he had a consultation. Dr. Yogi Patel is such a nice doctor not to mention his care is outstanding. I have been a patient with a torn disc, upper and lower cervical serious issues and sciatica. I have been a patient for over 10 years after having (2) back surgeries, shoulder surgery and cancer. Friendly front office staff. I've suffered neck and shoulder pain for many years, following an accident. I saw Dr Bansal. His assistant Jaz was very nice and professional. I really liked Dr.Bansal. He was very thorough, and explained everything in a calm and patient manner. He was spot in with where my pain is and had 2 treatment options, that he explained in detail. He prompted for the more conservative treatment. He was patient with all of my questions. My after visit summary included many home remedies, and to my delight there were options for those of us who prefer "natural supplements or herbs" it's hard to find good pain doctors, Dr Basal is excellent. read more

Incredibly poor at providing warnings regarding procedures. After receiving my first back injections, my back pain has become worse. There was no discussion of a follow-up appointment, I was NOT provided with warnings, told what complications might arise, that I was supposed to wait 15-30 minutes after the injections happened, or given post-op instructions, all of which was stated on my MyScripps as having occurred (when they didn't). Pain management is tough. For patients, doctors, insurance, everyone. Dr Miller is one GREAT doc. Through the myriad of issues I have, many injections and a pain pump or two, I am at ok place. It takes time and work. But you won't find another doctor as caring or knowledgeable about pain management as Dr Miller. I owe the quality of life I have today to him. Dr Chakravarthy is one of the best physicians I have ever seen! He actually listens and helps. I have had such terrible pain it was actually hard for me to get out of bed in the mornings! With the trigger point injections administered by Dr Chakravarthy I was up the next day at 6am and doing push ups! If I could leave zero stars I would. A sign in the front office states that if a patient becomes aggressive, they will be asked to leave. It makes sense to have this sign up since people coming to this office or any pain management office are most likely in a lot of pain and easily irritable. So knowing this and probably from past experiences the office put a sign up. I get it. :-) [[HIGHLIGHT]]If the people working in the office KNOW that this could potentially be an issue and patients come in frequently with pain, irritability, etc. then it would make sense for them to use compassion, common sense, and customer service to ensure that these things don't happen.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is not or has never been the case when we have gone into Coastal Pain.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The receptionist for Dr. Goodman needs to be taught all of these and then some... Not once has she been helpful, positive, or productive when we are in the office.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Whoever does the hiring/training/firing of receptionists for this office needs to retrain this person or perhaps she shouldn't been patient-facing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]20 years of customer service experience has taught me that when you are confrontational and interrupt people when they are talking there's a 10/10 chance the person that is being spoken to this way will most likely become a bit agitated.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] read more

My PCP referred me here and I had a really poor experience here with Dr. Bansal. I had to keep my follow up appointment with him to let him know that I was receiving no treatment or information because he didn't want to be bothered, and was ignoring my messages. I was in pain, tired, frustrated and made to feel like my care was unimportant. He told me, well "we are a high volume clinic," and I just cried out of frustration, exhaustion and actual pain that that went untreated. What a crappy thing to say to a patient that you are failing. My square peg didn't fit into this round hole. Glad some other people can fit in here, I couldn't. I felt completely discarded and it was a very unfriendly, cold and toxic environment with not one ounce of compassion or skilled patient care. Going here reminded my why I stopped going (not needing) pain management treatment a few years ago. It's like being in an abusive relationship. They are always waiting for you to f##k up, they even tell you that you can't f##k up. Alas, it is inevitable, you are going to f##k up, you're a human after all! Shit happens, mmmm kay? And they are gonna really make you sorry and ruin your life (even more) when you do! Even if you don't f##k up, you're always scared you will. That's no way to live! No thanks! read more

I was referred to Dr. Goodman for muscle spasms and hip pain. He and his staff are very professional and knowledgeable. After treatment I no longer have Spasms and my hip pain was relieved for a year. I will be having my second treatment for this issue. Grateful to have relief from chronic pain. read more

Really unbelievable office. They are affiliated with Scripps but do not have the ability to schedule appointments through MyChart, so you have to call. I have called this office SO MANY times, and they NEVER pick up. I have tried so many times. Also, they have a "request an appointment" button on their website which goes to a 404 "lost page". I am beyond frustrated trying to make an appointment for my 74-year-old mother's knee injections, that is in incredible pain. Really awful. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Goodman with Scripps Coastal Pain Group for a couple years now and could not be more satisfied. I'm treated with compassion and respect. All my questions are answered thoroughly and I never feel rushed. Dr. Goodman actively listens to me and works with me for my plan of care. His staff is friendly and efficient. I had to stop working as a Registered Nurse because of back surgery and chronic pain. After a May 31st appt and an agreement that we would proceed with a procedure. I had a couple of concerns. The next day and the day after I had sent a couple of messages. That next week I left 3 messages and and sent 2 more messages. And I still haven't heard back. Today, I worked my way around the phone system to finally talk with someone. All is good, but if they were just more timely my stress level would have been at a low. Pain has no schedule. And stress certainly doesn't help so thank you for reading my rant!!! I really don't know what the problem is, unless they are severely under staffed which is not an excuse, hire more people!!! I'll come work there. I have plenty of hours dealing with my own physical problems that I do consider myself an expert. read more

Very poor. I have been going to them for probably about five years now I think. I have severe chronic pain for which they prescribe me meds to somewhat alleviate it. Everything was fine, so I stayed with them, even though I hadn't been seen by an actual doctor in a few years. I always get some sort of nurse practitioner who mostly appear to be right out of school, and we do a 5 minute virtual appointment, they renew my meds and that's it. Until a couple of days ago. They must have a high turnover because I get a different NP just about every time. So I got yet another, who decided she was going to change my treatment plan despite the fact that I didn't want to. She claims that she cleared it with a doctor there who I had never heard of and who had never seen me. Really?? That's how you operate? Look elsewhere for pain management! I am. read more

I have been going to Coastal Pain and Dr Patel since 2012. I mainly see his physician's assistant Justin.... most of the time! I just have to say that I completely trust both of them with my care. They both take their time and listen to my concerns. I do see Justin more often just because it's easier to get in on his schedule. But I have to tell you I really enjoy being his patient. He is kind, attentive and takes his time!!!! That's not easy to find in the pain management business. Thank you Justin for all you do! You make a difference in my life! Do yourself a huge favor and find somewhere else! These folks are absolutely the worst when it comes to any human interaction regarding scheduling or follow up. I have yet, after 4 months of dealing them, to actually have anybody answer the phone. Then, when I have been lucky enough to schedule an appointment (virtually) they don't follow through with a virtual call.....So far, out of all the doctors I'm involved with, these folks are the absolute worst!! read more

Gina is the best, other than Dr. Miller (out of respect) is a brilliant shining star in my life after my accident. She has made life manageable and tolerable. Simply stated - Gina is caring, understanding and always welcoming to hear how your last month has been. Dr. Millers team gets his referral's done promptly and fights for your medical well being. I cannot say enough good things about Gina and the crew. Unfortunately for a short time Gina is out on Maternity leave, I cannot wait for her return! FYI Coastal Pain whatever you are paying Gina - it's not enough. I've been getting radio-frequency injections in my neck (I have cervical spondylitis degeneration & pain) every six months for years. Dr. Patel is efficient, explains every step of what he's doing, and I'm in and out in 45 minutes. Yes, the injections are a little bit painful, but I know they will provide pain reduction for months, so it's worth it. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Evan Goodman for about a year following pretty extensive spine surgery in November 2022. He is extremely knowledgeable about the issues I am going through in my recovery and has given me numerous excellent suggestions to alleviate my quite significant pain. He is helping me to cut the amount of pain medicine I use by advising me and assisting me in weaning down my dosage in a safe and reasonable way. Most importantly, for me, I find him to be a very kind and caring individual who really listens to my issues and advises me accordingly. He doesn't just pay lip service. Dr. Miller is an excellent physician. I have been seeing him for many years for several chronic pain conditions and my life has been completely changed for the better. I can walk, exercise, sleep, drive, just do every day activities that I could not do before because my pain was not able to be managed by any other treatments I tried. I have spinal arthritis in my mid-lower back, chronic migraines, and interstitial cystitis- chronic pelvic pain and discomfort. [[HIGHLIGHT]]But from day 1 he made me feel comfortable right away, did not judge me, and has shown his intelligent and empathetic nature throughout the years of his care for me, no matter what.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I often see the PA, Gina Giron, and she is also very helpful and consistently makes my long term relationship with this Clinic an absolute must! [[HIGHLIGHT]]She is also very kind and offers helpful advice when pain levels flare up, and offers referrals to other specialists as needed to make sure I am getting the best care.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I constantly tell all of the providers there that I don't know what my life would be like without their help. Living in chronic pain is awful. They make it possible so that I can have a decent quality of life to work and be successful at my career, and enjoy time with my family as a mom to my 16 year old. Patient communication is horrible; worst I've experienced at any physician in my (long) life. Good luck trying to get anyone to answer the phone. And, leaving voicemails results in either: never getting a response or getting a response--after leaving voicemails over a series of days--- many, many days later. In all, very poor quality client (customer!) service! Recently, their very best pain mgt specialist, Dr. Chakravarthy, left the practice. This was such a disappointment to me. After many years of dealing with a specialist at this practice who offered me very little hope, I switched to Dr. C. (based on a confidential referral from staff who didn't even work for him). He offered me more help and hope in a couple of visits than the previous specialist did in years. His procedures improved my quality of life immeasureably! IMO, this is an epic loss to Coastal Pain. And now - true to form - I've asked 2 members of their staff (2 weeks ago + 7 days ago) to have someone call me to recommend a new specialist - and, of course, have received NO CALL BACK. Coastal Pain's patients are people disabled due to serious chronic pain due to injury or spinal conditions... nothing that we asked for or caused. Living in constant chronic pain and an inability to lead a full life causes frustration, loneliness & sadness... in addition to the agony of constant severe pain. At the very least -- this practice should have a conscience about patient communication. read more

I've been holding off on writing this review but feel a responsibility to let other people know as I am still upset with myself for allowing Dr. Patel to administer an epidural pretty much on the fly. Over two years later, I am still in severe neuropathic pain that occurred AFTER receiving the epidural. I agreed to receive an epidural by Dr. Patel based on the information that I had two epidurals five years previous and they seemed to help. He did not see a single MRI of mine and he did not administer the epidural under fluoroscopic guidance (a live MRI as I had in the past). I could feel the injection go in and what felt like the medicine going down my legs. The muscles in my leg started gripping and it really hurt. And continued to hurt upon leaving the office. But it was nothing compared to the excruciating pain I experienced the three months following the epidural. Now I experience pain flare ups regularly in the exact same nuero-muscular pattern as I did post epidural. The money/time spent and emotional trauma these past two years has triggered anxiety and depression. For anyone considering an epidural, I cannot express how important it is to have it administered under fluoroscopic guidance. If you don't see a big MRI machine RUN! read more

Do not go here if you want to keep from going broke. First time you go you will get a Drug screen, which is billed at 1200 + I have Blue Cross and Blue Shield and they do not cover, citing not medically necessary. Afterwards you get duo phone calls monthly, of which I have a $55 copay and they charge my insurance about $900 for a ten minutes zoom type call. That's the only way I can get my pain meds. Find another place to get treatment is my advice. They have a vacuum directly connected to your bank account. I would not recommend them. They attempted to get me to get another drug screen today and it was just too much for to handle. I would rather stay in pain than give these guys another dime read more
