I have been with Scripps for a very long time. I have a lot of health issues and I normally go in person to make appts. My husband told me I got a letter in the mail stating that I was writing messages in my portal to my Drs. I thought the portal was used as a extra tool for Scripps when you do not go to appointments for your health and concerns. They threatened me that they would kick me out of Jefferson if i wrote anymore messages. Don't I have any patient's right for my healthcare to use the portal for questions and concerns when appointments are over two to three months in the future? I felt threatened and abandoned especially that I was recently discharged from the ER and needed some answers from lab work which I feel was not given by the ER Dr. On top of that I got a letter in my portal about missing and no show appts which I go all the time because I have other people drive me there so why is there such a mess when I feel I am threatened? Does anyone else have this experience with Scripps at this time with communication on portal, mail and no one replying to their messages on portal? Has anyne else been threatened to be kicked out even if they go to all drs appts on time and ask qs about their health???? Isn't that what Drs and nps are there for to help you and take care of your concerns in a professional manner???! read more

I have used this facility many times with ease. I would like to point out that the lab, both blood work and imaging, really does a great job. Personnel make every effort to be both punctual and pleasant. Recently I had a CT scan. Jessica , the lab professional who did the procedure, like many of her colleagues at this location, made the entire experience comfortable and easy. I actually enjoyed this experience . . Orthopedics appointment here further away from home when I could not get one in Encinitas. Easy lot parking in the PM. Unusual layout of building was more than offset when several associates asked me how they could help, always pointing me in the right directions. On their own initiative. Dr. Braunstein gave steroid injection into painful toe joint, the pain of which has vanished 24 hours later. Great overview of what was going on and related issues. I saw none of the attitudes, etc. described in older reviews about the place generally and Orthopedics specifically. I experienced auto problems (see below) and was not scolded for being late or upsetting scheduling. Which the Torry Pines facility sometimes did. The problem is its entrance. A single lane in each direction. Not prominently enough identified by signage on the main roadways. Needs many more "H" blue signs with arrows strategically placed a distance away. And it feeds directly off a shopping center entrance which I had never seen before for a hospital. Needs a traffic light, if the shopping center entry further down the feeding road has a traffic light, then more so a hospital should. (Single entry/exit; what if there were a fire?) Entry via the parking structure was forbidden by staff only signage. If you have not been there before, even if you had been a long while ago as I once was, you are going to likely miss one or more turns. Spent 20 minutes being diverted into various roads including those that would all but force cars onto the freeway, trying to turn around to get to the single-entrance place. SUMMARY: Nice place, quality assistance and care, when you make it. Minus one star for learning curve for driving in! read more

TRUST THOSE WHO YELP REGULARLY... How does a person find good health care? Does it exist? My mother was in for an MRI. The tech that called for her in the waiting room (ask all techs did for all patients), they just say the first name and what they are waiting for (MRI, Urgent Care, etc.). He told me that I didn't look like a Mary (name changed to protect identity) and suggested I wait back out in the lobby. There could easily be another patient with the name Mary. Three minutes later he came out to ask me questions. I was then able to remind him of our need for the largest core machine and inquired as to how long it would take for the Lorazepam to kick in... he didn't seem to know. Another patient was called, and when she stood up, she told the tech that she (the patient) had recently broken her knee. She was obviously disabled and had extreme difficulty walking with her cane. Had the tech had ANY commen sense, she should have ooffered a wheelchair... but she did not. If Healthcare makes so much money and can build new campuses and buildings, then why are they spending so little on quality help and training. Does it take my 30 y/o business degree or my life experience to have this common sense or interest in helping people? What are they teaching in schools these days? Scripps is NOT where it's at. read more

Medical care received excellent as usual. Billing and reimbursement get a big "F." Received services 11/23 while transitioning to COBRA which is retroactively effective. Have submitted claim for service at least 3 times and because Scripps keeps saying I didn't have coverage even though I paid my COBRA with retroactive coverage to 10/23 and submitted proof of coverage, Scripps' system somehow says I didn't have coverage so they keep denying the claim. I've already spent more in my time trying to get reimbursed than the amount of reimbursement, but am not giving up because Scripps billing can't get the data in their system correct. read more

My doctor (Strohmeyer) is excellent, and has been for the over 30 years I've been with her. However, communication through the patient portal has become inefficient and has me considering taking my business elsewhere. Please consider prioritizing the more urgent messages from patients. read more

Wow. What a nice new facility. Conveniently located and easy access right off of the 78 freeway. Parking space quantity is decent, the spaces are small, but it has covered parking which is nice and will help on those hot days. I went in and stopped at the first check point, they were friendly, nice, and directed me to the 2nd floor. There was an elevator which was helpful since it was painful to walk. I checked in and the lady at the check in was helpful and friendly. After some brief paperwork and processing of the payment she guided me to the waiting area. I was there about 30 minutes early as recommended for check in. I got out my phone because I figured I had time to kill but in less than a minute wait my name was being called and I was ushered back 29 minutes early. Phenomenal service. That was very nice on a Friday afternoon. I figured they would be running late. The assistant was very nice. He took me back to the room, asked some medical questions, updated my chart and went to find the doctor. 2 minutes later the doctor came in and reviewed what I had discussed with the assistant. The doctor was very knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and made some great recommendations. He did a few small procedures, answered all of my questions, gave me a written referral to a specialty store with a 10% discount, and he advised to come back in 3 weeks to see if surgery would be needed or not. I am very happy with Scripps and this new location. I usually go to the one in Carlsbad which I also like very much. Glad to know that this location has a specialist and is such a nice location as well. read more

Trying to schedule with orthopedics has been a nightmare from the team giving me the wrong fax number for my insurance to send referral to, then having their own web site be wrong sending me to a referral Dr that doesn't even deal with knees ( my issue) to now waiting to schedule to due uploading images from out side CD taken directly to Scripps now they say it will take more time before scheduling bc uploading is not instant and new Dr wants to review 1st Absolutely beyond ridiculous and now a month of this back and forth Awful protocol for patients read more

Scripps Ortho is not a place to seek medical care. I had a sport injury and had to go to the urgent care on a Friday afternoon for a possible rotator cuff tear. The doctor was nice and took xrays. He explained that all he could do was refer me to the Ortho department as an urgent matter for the following week follow up. I called first thing Monday am as the pain was so incredible 24 hrs a day. They set me up with a Tuesday appt. (the following week) to see the doctor. This was the best they could do. The next day they called and left me a VM stating that they took away my appt because they had just read my orders from the urgent care and were going to work on getting me in this week. I called them immediately after they called (9am ish) and the girl that answered stated that she would see when they could fit me in this week and call me back in 10 minutes. At approx. 3pm, I called the office to see about the appt. since I hadn't heard back. The girl that answered told me that nobody in their had ever spoken with me or told me this information. She said the soonest that PA (no longer a doctor) would see me is Oct 22nd, nearly a month and a half out. She stated that DR. Firozgary, who was the triage doctor on call, felt my shoulder was not worthy of a doctor visit. At that moment I replied, WTF and because I said the F word she hung up on me. I ended up calling CORE Otho instead and will get in this week. Bottom line is that I will never go to see any of those doctors or step foot in that facility. All around Scripps is not good but I did like my urgent care doctor. He was a nice, kind doctor. read more

As I mentioned previously, I would have appreciated transparency over being seen mostly by the fellow, as well as an explanation from the doctor about the early abnormalities found in my xray rather than being told that everything was normal and healthy and alignment over the fellow and doctor's interpretation of my xray (where the fellow pointed out abnormalities and the doctor said the xray was normal). When I requested to speak with the Orthopedic Clinic manager through two different people. I got no call back. After Patient Relations got involved, I got a call back from the manager. That is who they are referring to when they say someone from their team reached out to me. However, I told the manager that at that point I wanted to speak to someone in leadership because I didn't feel like my concerns were taken seriously given her lack of followup earlier. She said she would have her manager call me, yet I never heard back from her manager or anyone else from leadership, which left a bad impression. Patient Relations also says they value the opportunity to listen and consider my perspective, yet no one in leadership followed up with me and Patient Relations ignored my email asking to speak to someone in leadership. This gives me the impression that they care more about optics than helping the patient. read more

This review is their Orthopedics department. The reason for the one star - this star is for the staff at the front and the nurses work there. Unfortunately, I cannot give any star to the providers and here are the reasons: 1. I wanted to see a doctor for my condition but I was told that I cannot, till I see a PA. To be clear my insurance is PPO and I can go to any specialist without referrals from my primary care provider. In fact, I went to another practice in the same area, for the same condition, and seen by a medical doctor, paid the same amount of co-pay. 2. The PA said I have to go through a set of physical therapy, "in order to receive approval for the MRI from the insurance company." However, it was not a fact. I asked the PA to check with my insurance company because my insurance is very good; however, my request was rejected without any action. Then, I called and spoke with the supervisor of my insurance company and I was told that there is no authorization necessary for such type of MRI. By the way, the R physical therapy was another horrible experience. I do not understand the reason why Scripps keeps relationship with that practice. 3. I finally saw a medical doctor, briefly. (Although his after visit note indicates he spent long time with me, it was a brief meeting.) He stated that I can have a treatment, but it requires prior insurance approval. I waited for over a week, but did not hear anything from his office, so I contacted my insurance company. Then, again, I was told that I do not need prior authorization for that particular treatment. What's wrong with them? I have a good insurance that does not require prior approval for many treatments, yet, I was told that I have to get the approval. I have been a happy patient of Scripps for over 10 years, and now I have to encounter such issues? I am so disappointed. read more

On February 27, i received at bill for 358.80. I was told I had booked a appointment for my yearly assessment, I explain I only made the appointment because I had received so many calls asking me to make an appointment I was confused why. I call Medicare I was told I had already had this assessment why did scripts call. I call the doctor's office and ask if they could resend in the bill, Dr Veron office said they could not because I made the appointment. Got scheduled for the wrong clinic by the person on the phone which is one thing, but I'm now waiting two months for the doctor to even tell me to my face that I have a torn ACL (saw the results of the MRI). This is really a great new facility. They have ample curbside drop off area and I've had a car visit with my pediatrician for my son. The doctor and the nurse were outside within minutes to see us. There is a large parking lot in front and a huge parking garage so I can't image you'd struggle to park and make it in. The facility is well laid out and there is plenty of space for all of the COVID19 distancing measures. I had two imaging appointments back to back and I was taken back on time and done a solid half an hour early. The space is really well thought out. The staff was nice and moved patients along very well. I am looking forward to more appointments here. read more

We took my daughter to the Heath Express because we thought she might have strep throat. They proceeded to take a number of tests without asking and when my bill arrived with the items that my insurance wouldn't cover were $179 for a Covid-19 test and $335 for a Flu test, both of which I could have given an over the counter version of, and neither of which would have led to treatment. In addition, there were multiple other "over-charges" for other visits that my insurance said they won't cover. Scripps refused to come down on the bill they sent me, so I will NEVER go back to Scripps with any of my family and they have officially lost 3 long-term patients. read more

So far we are EXTREMELY DISPLEASED with everything Scripps. First, it took entirely too long to get a first appointment with extremely limited availability and re-schedulings. When we finally saw Doctor Hussein on October 8, it was just for my 13 year olds physical and recent knee/ankle injuries from competitive gymnastics. Dr. Hussein suggested NO X-rays, as she was going to refer her to a specialist, mark it as urgent and instructed me to let her know if we couldn't get an appointment within 1-2 weeks.  I was content with this, thinking this would actually happen within 2 weeks. We are now 13 days later, and I do not even have a proper referral, much less an appointment.  It took 8 days from the original appointment for Scripps to fix our chart with the proper insurance and this was definitely a scripps error because everything was straight on my end and the insurances end from day 1. Scripps kept telling me we weren't covered at that location with that doctor, which was false. I sent my electronic insurance card (that very clearly stated Scripps Medical Center Jefferson) multiple times during these 8 days, and every time I followed up after sending, Scripps advised that our insurance was still not right.  Remember, Scripps can't put any referrals through until the insurance lines up.  Finally, I spoke with someone and while they were very rude, they noticed the problem was a Scripps error and were able to fix it EIGHT DAYS AFTER THE ORIGINAL APPOINTMENT.   Now we are on day 13 - I have received multiple dead end referrals, and it takes me at least 24 hours in between each one.  When I finally reach the provider we are being referred to, they can't see my daughter because one reason or another (age, body part...these seem like things the doctor should know before giving the referral).  Scripps customer service has been pretty horrendous thsi entire time and I never can reach anyone except message takers and then wait for a call back that always takes extremely too long for a matter that the Doctor chose to mark urgent yet not X-ray for.   The short version of this review is we are 2 weeks post appointment with no referral or resolution in sight due to no fault of our own.  The doctor has not followed up or seemed concerned with this as far as I can tell. She was a very nice Doctor and I'm sure very good at the medical side of it, but at this point my entire family will be leaving Scripps as soon as I can get this injury treated and find a new provider with a better patient/customer focus. read more

This is the newest of the Scripps Medical Centers, located conveniently off CA78 at Jefferson and Vista Way. The facility itself is beautiful, very green friendly. Parking is great and free. Today was a visit to Imaging. Everyone was professional and pleasant. Completing the eCheck-In on the myScripps application was easy and straightforward, making arrival and check-in quite simple. We were in the spacious waiting room for less than five minutes before being called in Imaging. This center also has Laboratory, Ambulatory (Same Day) Surgery, and 7-day a week Urgent Care. We have three Scripps imaging facilities closer to home, but I'd definitely make the slightly longer drive to Oceanside for Imaging. read more

I was asked to do a follow-up diagnostic to a preventive scan. I was fortunate enough to get a next-day appointment. The receptionists are not overly-friendly, but professional. They check you in without a fuss. The wait was not at all bad. The technician, Cathy, was very friendly. She had the knack of putting one at ease. It is a welcome trait especially for a patient who came in to find out if they are positive for an ailment or not. Most of the stars on this review is for her. Thank you, Cathy, for your very good bedside manner. Thankfully, because of this experience, I know now where to go for preventive screening. She is very meticulous while being reassuring. We are new parents and were in search of a pediatrician for our little one. Luckily, we found Dr. Yang (Unikora Pyun Yang) at Scripps newest clinic in Oceanside off Vista Way. If I shared everything I love about Dr.Yang and her clinic, I would be writing a novel, so I will name a few. Dr.Yang takes her time to ensure all of our questions are answered. We leave each appointment feeling reassured and more knowledgeable than when we arrived. Not only is she thorough with us as the parents but she makes our little guy feel so comfortable. Overall, the process is very smooth every time! The staff of nurses are equally great and professional. We absolutely love our regular check-ins. The phlebotomists are great - it's the front desk staff who need training. I continue to run into this same individual who cannot bother to 1) be pleasant 2) offer baseline assistance 3) provide suggestions consistent with customer service. Dr. Garrick Lon Stride is absolutely amazing! Went to urgent care for my ankle injury. He was so kind and patient with me. He listened to everything I said about my ankle injury. He then explained everything to me in detail. He made me feel comfortable and confident about my recovery process. I am going to downgrade my previous rating due to the way "Patient Feedback" has handled my previous complaint. As you may recall, my complaint was due to my inability to speak with my Primary Physician's Office because the Call Center was keeping me at arms' length. The Patient Feedback responded here encouraging me to contact them. Instead, I switched doctors hoping it would get better. Instead, it was worse. I contacted the call center to arrange for a semi annual injection that is my lifeline. No return call. I then messaged them on the Patient portal with no response for 13 days. So I took Patient Feedback up on their invitation via the email link provided. I asked them if there was a change in procedures or guidelines.......an additional layer keeping patients at arm's length, which, in my case resulted in a disruption of my medical care. I asked them to call me so I could explain my situation, which I had to resolve on my own. No return call. I also left two phone messages. No return call. All and all, I made 5 requests for a phone call to no avail. So the policy of keeping the patient at arm's length, unable to be heard stretches to the very people that are supposed to be your advocates. So where can patients then turn for help receiving much needed continuity of care? One last point in this unnecessarily long account of my neglect. Scripps, I am giving you a gift of legal advice here. If you want to avoid lawsuits COMMUNICATE. with disgruntled patients. Don't push them away.​ read more

We had the RUDEST doctor ever, George Rodriguez. He was aggressive and confrontational. We were there for my son who got a baseball to the nose and he wanted to fight with me the whole time, Im not sure what his problem was but he's in the wrong business. Make sure you request to NOT have him as your doctor. In addition to being rude, aggressive, and very strange he kept trying pushing antibiotics and pain meds on my son, I kept politely decling. He was relentless. The receptionist and nurses are all amazing...just stay away from him. read more
