I was given Karl Carlson's phone# from a colleague this morning when I discovered my 40ft tree had come crashing down on top of my driveway and house. There was a very bad storm last night and still going on today with HIGH winds so a lot of trees and fences were down in the area plus power outages. Karl & his amazing crew were able to have this tree cleared off my property same day and for a very reasonable cost too! I called on a Friday and was scheduled for someone to come out Monday morning at 8:00am was told they may even be a little earlier. No one came. I called at 9:20am Monday morning and the gentleman told me he would personally come out in 45-60minutes. No one came. I called back at 12:30pm and told him no need to come anymore since now it's been over 3 hours, and he hung up on me. If you are going to be late at least call the customer to let them know. And if they call to find out what happened, don't hang up. Poor customer service. read more

I live on Random Oaks Ln. in Loomis so you must know that I have a lot of oak trees. I had several that needed to be trimmed up and one needed to be cut down and ground out. I can't say enough about this outfit. The hardest working guys and fast also. They gave me a day rate and it was well worth the price (which was very reasonable). The guys were on time, called ahead and worked fast. They were clean cut, friendly and very professional. I have had other tree service work done for me and all of my 6 other neighbors told me about Carlson tree service and I am so glad I called him. I would highly recommend them to all. I was initially hesitant to have Carlson's Tree service out, due to one negative Yelp review -- but I'm very glad I ended up having Karl do the deferred maintenance pruning on all of our trees and will be using his service again. These guys are the most technical and precision crew I have ever seen. Two other companies wouldn't even give me a bid they took out my 34" live oak between my house and spa for only $3500 and had left the yard spotless. One of Carlson's tree care workers pulled out in front of me on Fair Oaks Boulevard going up towards Oak Avenue blew through a stop sign just to cut me off pulling a trailer and damn near made me hit the back of him this was at 9:38 this morning on October 25th 2019 with a complete disregard for the law and the community I will never use his tree service and it's really stupid to do stunts like that when your name is right on the side of the vehicle which is how I got this information what an idiot read more

The owner is very personable and he is prompt giving you a quote. That's a plus. The foreman, nevertheless, needs to be retrained on manners and handling public relations. While they were working, a neighbor came by and after getting information from me regarding cost, attempted to talk to the foreman and ask him if they could work on her tree immediately afterward, and asked for a price. The tree was a lot smaller than mine, I had informed her how much I paid for mine he quoted her a higher price. The tone of his voice was condescending and argumentative. I had to intervene a couple of times to correct the foreman, as the foreman was trying to justify getting more money with details that were not true i.e. I had paid $500 for cutting the tree and hauling it out and he was quoting $550 to $600 for smaller tree and informed her that it was because they did not have to haul the wood away on mine (my price included hauling). He also stated to her that if they had to come back on another day, the price would be higher.The lady decided not to use them. I also asked the foreman a couple of questions to which he replied in a condescending manner to me. A few minutes later, another neighbor came to me for a reference to see if he could use them, and I could not recommend using this tree service. The following day I discovered that they had broken my sprinkler system in several places. I called the owner and he was defensive, arguing that he could not see the sprinkler system. I do not blame him for this, but he tried to verify with another worker, and I'm perceiving it was the foreman, who claimed that they had never seen the sprinkler system. I can show photos if you need to that the "funny pipe" was on top of the rock, and plainly visible. I will not use them again. read more

I waited over 2 weeks for a return call from another tree service despite their trucks advertising 30% discount "today only" which lead me to believe they would get back to me in a timely manner. I found a neighborhood referral service called Nextdoor who highly recommended Carlson's Tree Care. I contacted Karl, he was able to come out the same day and give me a very REASONABLE bid to remove mistletoe and clean up approximately 13 trees. He said he could schedule me in the following week out and true to his word called me the night before and confirmed the appointment. His crew arrived as promised, they did a professional job, cleaned up and hauled everything to the curb to be ground up. Karl returned to do QA work and had his guys back in the trees fine tuning their work - they finished continued to clean up the debris and I could not be happier. I don't know what the other negative reviews are about but I could not be happier with his work. read more

This company recently removed a redwood tree from my back yard and grinded the trunk. Carl was congenial to work with. His team was quick and cleaned up well. Imagine my surprise the next morning when I saw water pouring out under the dirt, carrying dirt and mulch into my pool. What a mess!! Carl did not mention the possibility of breaking an irrigation pipe when he came out to peruse the job and give me a quote. I did call Carl to inform him of the broken pipe. He did not call me back. I am only giving his company 2 stars. I have no respect for a business owner who does not call back to discuss the problem and talk about a solution. read more

Very good experience with Carlson's tree service. They gave me a really reasonable estimate to remove a large stump in my front yard. Karl (the owner) came out and also gave me really good instructions on how to actually kill the roots before they removed the stump. They came out and did the job with no problems. read more

We were in a time crunch needing to get the limbs of an ornamental cherry tree cut away from our house so that we could have a realtor take pictures of our house. Karl showed up to give me a quote and said that he could do it at the end of the week, however, knowing that I was anxious to get it completed, he called a few hours later to say that there was an opening in their schedule and that he could be there in an hour. If I could of given him a zero star I would of. Months ago Karl came out and gave me a bid to cut down to trees and remove the wood. I told him I couldn't do it just then but I would call in a couple of months. He said that was fine and the bid would hold true when i call. So here I am, I give him a call and get it all arranged. Today he comes out to do the job and calls me and says he won't do it anymore. Says the bid he gave is to low to remove the wood. I begin to talk to him and he says "I'm walking see ya later" and hangs up the phone. What a joke. He waited til the morning of, all his guys there ready to do the job and then reveals he doesn't want to do it. He even came by the home last week to do a walk through and finalize everything. I was shocked. We have been waiting a long time to get this done and to be treated like this is horrible. I will make sure no one I know uses Carlson's Tree Service. There are many other good companies who need the work. Don't waste your time with this company, move on and find someone who is honorable. Karl demonstrated he is NOT! read more

We have used Carlson's Tree Care multiple times to trim our trees throughout the years. We've found them to do a good job and to be reasonably priced. When it came time to remove a large fruitless mulberry, we knew it would be expensive and got several bids. Carlson's Tree Care gave us the most reasonable price and even ground out some stumps for us and our neighbors for a small additional fee. The workers were friendly, were accommodating, and cleaned up the yard well. Karl worked with us to take away the part of the tree we could not use and cut up the remaining wood for our wood stove. Amazing, courteous! Mr. Carlson is a throwback to times when people worked on a handshake and kept their word. I had to cut 2 mammoth trees close to the house. Many companies would not even tackle the project and some wanted to charge an arm and a leg. Mr. Carlson and his crew were courteous, friendly, prompt and hard working. They did the massive job very carefully and cleaned up meticulously, all for a fair, reasonable price.
