My experience at Car Max was pleasant. After having my car be appraised at several places I finally took to car max. I did everything on line & got a valued price. Made an appointment. I arrived a little late. They were accommodating. They Dale person took photo of my car then put the rest of the info & then had corporate do their thing. It's was a 25 minute wait. Bring a book, a tablet, etc... The sale people must get an alert. The Dale was making small talk and then reviewing everting like a big reveal the. He click on the offer. I was surprised I actually got what I was offered in line. Normally those price is to get you in the door then you usually get something less. Everything took about an hour. read more

An appointment is an appointment. we got there and were told to wait until someone was available. Finally after i threatened to leave a guy that came over who didn't have a clue as to what we were doing here even though we had done the preliminaries on the site (car we wanted to test drive, when etc.). And, the first person had poor communications skills. A manager finally came and took over but by then it had pretty much soured me. we did try to take the car we were interested in for a test drive but as soon as started off the brakes made this loud grinding noise. Five stars isn't enough, truly. I have NEVER felt as taken care of as I did at CarMax of Lakeland, FL yesterday. What started out as something that felt like a nightmare, was suddenly transformed into an experience so amazing and unforgettable that it was almost hard to believe. There are simply not enough words in the English language to properly articulate the supreme awesomeness, professionalism, and outstanding customer service that I received from Kayla Evers, the store manager who took a personal interest in helping me, and Daniel Nottingham, the customer specialist that assisted me. To make a long story short, I had been experiencing one issue after another with a vehicle that I had purchased earlier this year. I decided this vehicle was no longer for me, but I just knew I would end up losing a ton of money on it and likely end up in another vehicle that wouldn't be what I wanted. I had resigned myself to lose on my investment, and still end up "settling", ultimately walking away from what became an ordeal very disappointed and disheartened, to say the least. Before even arriving at CarMax, Kayla made a point to learn exactly what was going on, and started working on how best to assist me. When I did arrive at the Lakeland CarMax, I was immediately greeted by Kayla who ensured me that she would do everything she possibly could to facilitate the best possible outcome for my situation. Kayla hand picked the customer specialist that would be assisting me, and within an hour, I had received a beyond reasonable offer for my current vehicle, and was test driving new cars. Kayla continued to check back in to monitor the progress of how things were developing, and she even made a point to sit down with me and help me select the perfect vehicle for me. She listened to everything I was wanting in a new car, and within minutes, she found the car that ended up being perfect for me. Working with Daniel felt as though I was working with someone I had known for years, as he was extremely kind, patient, attentive, and fully focused on making sure things were going as smoothly as possible. Both Kayla and Daniel made me feel as if I was a priority, even making calls to ensure I was receiving the best possible interest rate for the financing of my new car. Both Kayla and Daniel went above and beyond, even down to the last detail, making sure my new car would have a front face plate holder and helping to make sure my Salvador Dali Museum front face plate would get to live once again on the front of my car, as it always has since my honeymoon, nearly a decade ago. Before I knew it, I saw my new car all shiny and bright, sitting outside waiting for me with that beautiful big yellow ribbon on the hood. Carmax of Lakeland FL discriminated against me because of my disability. They did not take the necessary steps to accommodate my disability in the purchase of a car. Instead they told me I needed to get on a plane 3 days before hip replacement surgery, leaving my two special needs kids at home, to fly into Florida from Virginia to sign a document. We called Carmax of Lakeland before our scheduled appointment only to be informed the car was sold. Lakeland management has no idea how the car was released from hold, they don't know who released the car from hold and why we didn't receive notification. We'll be submitting formal complaints to Carmax VA home office, the Better Business Bureau of which Carmax is not accredited, the city of Lakeland and ultimately the state of Florida. Wally Stump was the sales rep. Paul Ramos and Daniel Retana were the managers. We inquired three other Carmax stores in the area before coming to the Lakeland store and all the other stores were extremely accommodating. We spoke with a supervisor at the home office who confirmed Lakeland management was incorrect. I'm submitting these complaints so Carmax corporate will hold management accountable and require training around compliance and customers with disabilities. This would help cultivate a culture devoid of ignorance and rooted in the desire to help others. Primarily I'm writing this review to raise awareness. Not all people are able-bodied. Some folks struggle to walk and breathe, let alone board a plane and fly when unnecessary. Familiarize yourself with the law and your company guidelines; more importantly, have compassion and empathy for the less fortunate for one day it could be you. read more

I pulled up without an appointment, but was hopeful as I saw 5 employees ready to give me an estimate on my car that I am looking to sell. The instant cash offer was pretty low compared to other dealerships but sometimes that is just an estimate. I waited in the lobby for 30 minutes while 4 employees sat at the front desk talking. I am not judging them, we have all been there. What I will say is that I can only assume that if a company as large as CarMax can afford to pay 4 people to have small talk when there is a lobby full of waiting customers, they are certainly low balling their offers. While I appreciate the effort, your profits are not going to be made at my expense. Never got an offer, 30 minutes of my time is enough wasted. I have seen enough. Update: Regal of Lakeland located off Bartow Rd gave me a solid offer. Ryan was very professional and while it was slightly less than I was hoping for, it was competitive. My husband completed an offer online and we scheduled an appointment for 12 pm the next Saturday to bring the vehicle in. It was very busy when we go there and we waited about 35 mins before we were seen for our appointment. I'd definitely recommend a later hour appointment. There is a small waiting area with coffee. We weren't in the best mood but then we were greeted by Daniel who turned things around. He explained each step of the process and he was very personable and knowledgeable. He made the time we were waiting go by so fast. We received exactly what we were offered online (so always be honest when filling out your car details) and left with a check within 2 hours of our appointment time. Customer care, response and follow up is lacking from this location. Was a HUGE Carmax fan until recent transaction with this location. Have wasted more time sitting and waiting, on hold and driving back and forth trying to resolve issues that I have had with a car I've had less than two weeks. Spent hours trying to call, being put on hold, transferred - promises they would call me back and no one ever did. Has really given me a bad taste for Carmax. read more

In past vehicle purchases at CarMax in Tampa, I was treated professionally and courteously and successfully bought three cars from them, financed through their finance arm. But frankly, the experience in Lakeland was that this team is operating out of their depth and with little care for a personal touch in car selling. It was pointed out to me at their reception desk that they do not get paid commission and this is evident in the way they treat a customer. Perhaps they will eventually learn and understand their own information and approval system as they get more experience under their belt, but it is unlikely that they will learn the people-side of selling a car. When I am told in email to just bring in my latest paystub when picking up the car, to being told by some junior finance person that unless I show him my bank statement, I could not complete the purchase, was shocking. Beware of showing your bank information to anyone. There should be a serious question in your mind about what your information could now be used for. Treating people in a dismissive and unprofessional manner is a cancer for any business. I would have imagined that a company of CarMax's stature would vet their people a little better rather than just fill a shiny new building with lots of ill-trained people that come with name badges to remind them of who they are. If you need to shop CarMax, travel the extra few miles to one of their other locations. It will be time well spent. read more
