I left after the first year it was so bad. I am so much happier where I am now. The classes were a joke.

I have stayed a parishioner all these years because it has helped me become a better person by reinforcing on a weekly basis the message of good and God. I have also found that with over 60 clubs over the years I have been able to apply my beliefs with the churches PADS ministry for the homeless, the Men's Club(helping create a sense of community with their annual fish fries, baseball games, etc), with Lake County United(addressing issues with affordable housing and mental illness), the gardening ministry(who does not see God's beauty in nature) and in my small bible study/reading group. If you are looking to become a better version of yourself, I encourage you to visit St Mary of Vernon's church and visit with some of their groups:). Remember, you and I are the church and we get out of the church what you put into it. Our faith starts with each of us

I'm agnostic. I need to see it in order to believe it. I don't believe blindly and because…read moresomeone told me to do so. And I swear, the priests and other religious leaders at the church know this about me. It's like they can see that I don't really believe. I feel like a freakin' fraud every time I get communion. But... that is another story for another day. I blame this on whatever Catholic guilt I may have. Anyhoo, if you are going to mass on the big holidays (ie: Easter and Christmas) - get there EARLY. Otherwise, you will have to sit with the latecomers (and the crying babies and rowdy children) in the original section of the church. The church was renovated a few years ago and it looks really beautiful. Thankfully, they do have two large projector screens so you can see what's going on with the mass. You can hear alright back there too, but if you want the real experience, try to snag a seat in the actual church section. On the plus side, the choir is really great. Sometimes, they play upbeat tunes, which gets me out of my sleeping with my eyes open daze. Bottom line, nice church, good choir, get there early to snag a seat. 3 solid stars since I'm not religious, but I can spare the hour to go if requested by family.

I graduated last year and I can honestly say I am glad to have escaped with my sanity. I hated…read moregoing to school here. In my opinion, this place runs rampant with sexual violence, patriarchy and cover-ups. The administration would not keep me safe when I was in an abusive relationship with another boy at the school. They instead blamed and punished me and then told my mom they had 'taken care of the issue'. The boy, by the way, was given a slap on the wrist because he was friends with a certain staff member. Apparently knowing the right people will get you out of most anything at LHS, even assault. The sex-ed there when I was a freshman was a JOKE. It was shame-based and muddled with misinformation, we didn't even learn about birth control or condoms. The administration also paid no regard to talking about sexual assault, it wasn't even mentioned at the mandatory pre-prom assembly. Although they did make improvements about addressing mental health my senior year, after many protests by staff and parents. The safety at LHS needs to improve drastically. I did not feel safe my entire 4 years at that school. It took forever for the administration to acknowledge an order of protection I had given to them. I also felt extremely over sexualized by the staff. I would always be leered at by the older security guards for some 'dress code' violation. It was always implied that some horny boy getting distracted by your outfit was more important then you getting an education. The food also sucks and nothing healthy or allergen conscious is ever served. The absence policy is ridiculous, you only get 10 per semester and after that you have to have a doctors note or you're truant. On a positive note, most of the teachers are great and the art department is awesome, although it lacks funding (it all goes to athletics). Also the staff in the Q-Z LST are some of the kindest people you will ever meet. Overall, send your kid somewhere else.

As far as high school go, when I went here from 1996 to 2000, it was pretty rad. The education we…read morereceived was superb, which was made evident when I went to college and felt I was ahead of the game. The campus was nice, lots of green space. It was safe and clean which cannot be said of all high schools today. If you had to choose between this public high school or some other private school in the area, Libertyville is the best choice.
