I graduated last year and I can honestly say I am glad to have escaped with my sanity. I hated…read moregoing to school here. In my opinion, this place runs rampant with sexual violence, patriarchy and cover-ups. The administration would not keep me safe when I was in an abusive relationship with another boy at the school. They instead blamed and punished me and then told my mom they had 'taken care of the issue'. The boy, by the way, was given a slap on the wrist because he was friends with a certain staff member. Apparently knowing the right people will get you out of most anything at LHS, even assault. The sex-ed there when I was a freshman was a JOKE. It was shame-based and muddled with misinformation, we didn't even learn about birth control or condoms. The administration also paid no regard to talking about sexual assault, it wasn't even mentioned at the mandatory pre-prom assembly. Although they did make improvements about addressing mental health my senior year, after many protests by staff and parents. The safety at LHS needs to improve drastically. I did not feel safe my entire 4 years at that school. It took forever for the administration to acknowledge an order of protection I had given to them. I also felt extremely over sexualized by the staff. I would always be leered at by the older security guards for some 'dress code' violation. It was always implied that some horny boy getting distracted by your outfit was more important then you getting an education. The food also sucks and nothing healthy or allergen conscious is ever served. The absence policy is ridiculous, you only get 10 per semester and after that you have to have a doctors note or you're truant. On a positive note, most of the teachers are great and the art department is awesome, although it lacks funding (it all goes to athletics). Also the staff in the Q-Z LST are some of the kindest people you will ever meet. Overall, send your kid somewhere else.

As far as high school go, when I went here from 1996 to 2000, it was pretty rad. The education we…read morereceived was superb, which was made evident when I went to college and felt I was ahead of the game. The campus was nice, lots of green space. It was safe and clean which cannot be said of all high schools today. If you had to choose between this public high school or some other private school in the area, Libertyville is the best choice.

Is it weird to review a school that you never attended nor will your children attend when they get…read moreto high school age? Sadly, I've never attended school here and our house isn't zoned for the district. Instead, I'm reviewing Stevenson for its fantastic community education program PREP. I've attended two classes here and had great experiences. For 8 weeks this fall, I learned ASL with a group of women ranging from high school age to retired 60s. All of us attended the class with different goals in mind, but all loved it. Our instructor Jillian was fantastic. For those two hours weekly, we learned new signs, had pop quizzes, and asked tons of questions related to ASL. I learned so much and value the experience greatly. When my hectic working mom schedule ever simmers down again to allow a hobby, I plan to continue to learn more. The other class I attended was sushi in the food lab with my husband as a mini date of sort. The Stevenson food lab is gorgeous like much nicer than our 1998 laminate kitchen countertop in our house. The instructor was again fantastic and informative. My husband and I had a great night and have already signed up for the next sushi class. Thanks to the Stevenson PREP program, I became one of those adults who attends adult education classes at a high school. Fortunately, they were wonderful experiences. I plan to look at the brochure and find other classes or mini date nights.

This is the first time that I've been here when the school wasn't being renovated. The classrooms are nice and have the latest technology. The hallways are big, bright, and have a huge two story plant/garden. I recommend Adlai E. Stevenson High School for students, teachers, and coaches.

Personally, I did not enjoy my experience here. As soon as I walked into this building, I was so…read moredone with it. One of the 8th grade math teachers couldn't teach at all. Only relying on other teachers, an answer key and a textbook for us to learn from instead of them. As well as the 8th grade science teacher. One was very fun to talk to, yet the other teacher couldn't teach at all, relying on the internet and is always on "G-chat". In my opinion, the 6th grade science teacher would always complain for the smallest things that we did although we were barely pre-teens then. Always pointing at the board, showing off her nails. If I had the chance, I would walk away from this school during breaks. We can't forget the art teacher. Rumors about him liking younger human beings and always records and takes pictures at kids without their consent. Seems pretty weird if you ask me... And this school reeked with horrible smells. Someone needs to start cleaning the 7th grade hallway or use febreeze!! Now the the P.E. teachers, there was one man that would make a bit upset. He doesn't understand how it feels to go through menstruation and says " exercise makes it better" but as soon as I exercise, I start feeling crippled even more with pain and have to be escorted. That made me feel "real good"... Overall, the vice principal needs to start hiring actual good teachers unlike these. There's a reason why many people don't like this school and are excited to leave.
