Dr. Chris Elleraas truly works magic! I had been suffering from shoulder and back pain, along with pain and numbness in my arms and hands for quite some time. I could even feel a couple of large "bumps" on my neck, and massage didn't help much. After I briefly described my symptoms, he immediately identified the exact problem areas. Then, with a few quick and precise adjustments--literally just a few "cracks"--he worked his magic. I honestly thought, "That's it?" But when I got back to my car and checked my neck, the two most noticeable bumps were gone. I was amazed! He also told me I would likely only need two or three visits, which shows how honest and confident he is in his treatment. I've been a patient at Carmel Valley Chiropractic for almost 10 years. I recently woke up with back pain and went in to book an appointment. When I spoke with Kira at the front desk, she told me that because I hadn't been seen in a while, the visit would now cost $110 instead of the $80 (I had been paying around $75 per visit previously). This feels like I'm being penalized for staying healthy and not needing to come in regularly. After nearly a decade as a loyal patient, the sudden price increase just because I haven't been in for some time is disappointing. More concerning, this experience has started to make me question Dr. Chris's motives. Trust is the most important factor when you're letting someone perform adjustments on your body. If the goal is to get patients to come in more frequently, it raises the question: Are the adjustments being done to genuinely help, or in a way that might create the need for more visits and thereby put more money in the doctor's pocket? One thing that turned me off to a lot of other chiros is they always seemed to pressure me into some sort of recurring program. While this office of course has something like that to offer, it's never been pushed on me. Dr. Chris is an energetic and passionate about his work. First appointment: Disappointed that he does not do any soft tissue work, and he is one of those guys that does not cover his nose with his mask. Felt a bit better after the appointment though. Second appointment: About the same as the first. Third appointment: Felt better for a couple days after the appointment. Fourth appointment: Kept me waiting for 30 minutes past the appointment time. I was super leery about coming to a chiropractor. It seemed like more of a relief than a remedy because all the people I knew who had ever gone to one had to keep going. Man, was I wrong! It's so nice for everything to be lined up appropriately. No wonder they come back! It's also so easy to get back into old habits which led you to the chiropractor in the first place. My alignment was feeling a little off and I decided, what the heck, I'll give it a try. I walked in to inquire and ended up being able to get an appointment for the next day! So pleased! Dr. Chris is excellent and he really knows his stuff. I took a little questionnaire while waiting to be seen. I was escorted to the back in a room with paintings of clouds on the walls (kind of weird). Dr. Chris quickly assessed me and re-aligned my neck and back...in a snap, crackle, pop! I've gone here for a couple years. I had significant neck pain due to torticullis and Dr. Chris was was able to get me in right away (pre-Covid). Very effective adjustments for my migraines and back pain, friendly staff, and they accepted my insurance. I have an OMD and have some 30 years at it. I have worked with the Charger Team, the downhill Olympic Surf and Golf teams with other chiropractic teams and I am most impressed with Chris. Been coming here for several months and I must say that Dr. Chris is top notch. He is 100% about helping people and helping them become healthier overall. He didn't do unnecessary Xrays, schedule ongoing appointments (unless needed), or anything else to generate $$, he just simply takes care of his patients. I think I've been coming here since 2008 and it was my first chiropractic experience. Last year I needed to see someone ASAP and tried this other place out and I was appalled and finally understood why some chiropractors get a bad rep. Dr. Chris, or Chris as I've always called him ever since I was in college does not upsell you on things you don't need like an x-ray and then wait a week to get to get an adjustment then try and scare you into thinking you need X amount of adjustments for this long. Chris takes care of you right away and I always leave feeling better. Being young I only need to see him a few times every year or two usually after a sports injury. One time, he even helped me with a sciatic pain I had been feeling and it has not come back in 3-5 years. I always know what I'm getting when I come here and I know I'll feel better. read more

I'm about to say something severe and I understand the severity of this accusation: This chiropractor smelled like alcohol and appeared drunk during my appointment. His demeanor was odd. He kept repeating uncomfortable things to me, saying he would care for me like he cared for his daughter. Some of the things he was saying weren't making sense and he was rambling. He did adjust me... that's when I smelled what I only know to be alcohol (absolutely not mouthwash). I should have left right then but I was in complete shock. His adjustment was terrible. I left as soon as I could and was honestly scared to write this review because of fear of retaliation... he seemed so weird and unstable. I also saw that he has had a formal accusation filed against him with the Board of Chiropractic Examiners and I'm curious if the other complaint is similar to my own. I had bad hip/back pain for three months. Saw two Scripps doctors for it. Got X-rayed. They said there was nothing obviously wrong. Walked into Dr. Chris' office and what was wrong seemed quite obvious to him -- my hip was out of alignment. Two adjustments took 20 seconds each and the pain was completely gone. COMPLETELY. I still believe thoroughly in Western medicine, but not so much in its ability to diagnose and treat back pain. I'm coming for maintenance for as long as I live nearby! The receptionist was ready to give me an appointment until she realized I was new patient and then told me I couldn't be seen for over a week. I want to write a review for Chris because I 100% believe in his work, his trade, and his medical healing process. He is a Gonstead chiropractor so this is a very specific type of trade and I am pretty sure he is the only one in San Diego. Before Chris I've never been to a chiropractor before and I don't really know what it's about. However, after a couple of sessions with Chris I fully believe in his trade and 100% recommend it. The experience entails: 1. Go in and be greeted by his receptionist (I always get Katy so she is a favorite: always happy and full of positive energy) 2. Wait in room for Chris (walls are artistically painted, nice relaxing music in entire office) 3. Consultation with Chris to see what's going on with you, problems, etc. 4. He then examines you and does his thing to see what is wrong with your body 5. He then relieves the pressure off your spinal discs through specific maneuvers. This is where he masters his trade: the adjustment process. A lot of people like different things (either adjusting the hips or back or neck or hands). My favorite adjustment is the neck because you can't really fix this problem in any other type of medicine (western/allopathic/eastern, etc). I would never trust anyone to adjust ("crack") my neck but I would and did with Chris because he is a master at his trade. He is successful in relieving the pressure in your neck disc during the adjustment and it FEELS GREAT. This is specifically Cervical disc 3 and/or 4...I forgot. Another favorite thing is that Chris tells you what he is doing while he is doing it so you can know exactly what he is doing to your body. The adjustments concerning the spine (thoracic or lumbar...forgot) is also great. If you are a runner then sometimes we need adjustments on our hips too and he has this leg maneuver procedure that is so relieving and therapeutic too). But anyway, my favorite adjustment procedure is the neck (cervical discs) and you should give it a try especially if you have neck pain/slept the wrong way/turned it the wrong way etc. or you could use some relief in that area to decrease the pressure of the discs hitting against your other nerves (which can affect other parts of your body + contribute pain/numbness). I think most people are apprehensive of this neck procedure/adjustment because it's scary but you just have to trust Chris and go for it. Trust that he is an expert at what he does and he will do an amazing, safe, and efficient job. I also think Chris is very passionate about his trade and he is so genuine, so patient, and so willing to discuss/diagnose what is wrong with you. He LISTENS...ATTENTIVELY. He sincerely wants to help you and he knows his trade incredibly well to do so. I would recommend going to Chris first before going to your internal medicine physician across the street at Scripps Clinic Carmel Valley if you aren't feeling well. read more

Dr. Chris was actually my very first experience with chiropractic and I was definitely a skeptic. That skepticism toward chiropractic disappeared when I had annoying back pain that would *just not go away*, and I needed something to fix it! I made an appointment with the front office (for the next day--awesome!) and was seen promptly at my appointment time. He is great. I am a big believer in chiropractic. I have had previous chiropractors who tell you they need you to come in 3 times a week, so once adjustment each time and send you home (after paying a lot!). Dr. Chris is very personable and honest. I had been suffering from low back pain for almost 2 years and had almost given up on how to feel better. I had tried physical therapy numerous times, x-rays, doctor visits, etc. and nothing seemed to help me feel better. I had always been hesitant of chiropractors until one day I decided since I wasn't getting better what did I have to lose! I wish that I had looked up Dr. Chris far sooner because it would have saved me months of frustrating pain and missed training days in the gym. He has literally changed my life! I'm fairly new to Yelp and recently moved to the Carmel Valley area from Orange County two months ago. I and my kids are involved with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. During a sparring session, I aggravated an old injury at the L-5 (which had nothing to do with BJJ - more to do with being out of shape and sedentary). I visited Dr. Chris' office and was very happy with the office front to back (no pun intended). Dr. Chris is passionate about his work and made the process very simple.
