I have suffered with debilitating lower back pain for years. I was diagnosed with three bulging discs in the lower lumbar region and three in the thoracic region. I had tried everything i could think of, acupuncture, energy work, massage, herbs, medication, cortisone shots, the works. Yet still i was in such pain that i could barely walk a block. I was taking a muscle relaxer and heavy narcotics at night because i was in so much pain i couldn't sleep. A friend took me to see Dr. Rick Loos. The first time i saw him it was actually for a neck adjustment because i had been having horrible headaches. He adjusted my neck, but didn't adjust anything else. He said due to my sensitivity he wanted to see how i did with the neck adjustment before he tried anything else. After two neck adjustments my headaches, which were almost daily, went away. I was on the waiting list for the DRX and after about a month I began treatment on the DRX machine. I have limited insurance and income and he went above and beyond to make it possible for me to receive the treatments i needed. I began treatment in April and just finished my last one on Thursday September 6th. Because i had suffered so long the first few treatments were pretty rough, but i hung in there. My Father had similar problems and the DRX had helped him so much i wanted to give it a chance. Again Dr Loos was able to drop the weight and help me get through the first few treatments. I really have no words to express my gratitude to him for his help and kindness. I had seen other chiropractors and even tried going to my favorite chiropractor in Indiana when i went home for a visit, but regular adjustments only caused more pain. I can say with certainty that Dr Loos has given me my life back. I am a Yogi. Due to the intense pain i have not been able to sit to meditate or do much stretching or yoga for years, even physical therapy made things worse. I can now sit for over an hour at a time for meditation, i can walk miles, i can hike, play, and even dance in moderation. I am still rebuilding strength but am so happy with my progress. When i began treatment i had not been able to sleep on my right side for almost two years due to hip pain. If I fell asleep on my right side i would wake in so much pain that it would take me up to an hour get the pain to subside and fall back asleep. I can now sleep on my right side. I've known Dr. Rick since he was an intern at my former Chiropractor's Office in the 1990s. When my former chiropractor moved, I looked Rick up. I've known Dr. Choi since he joined Rick at Torrey Pines Chiropractic. I'm always impressed with their philosophy which is to get people better and prevent future injuries. I have degenerative disc disease in my neck. The curve is reversed from a couple of traumatic injuries. The discs look bad on an MRI. I'm in my 50s. My family physician is impressed that I have great range of motion, minimal pain and minimal nerve symptoms. I have to admit I have never seen much use for a chiropractor, but Dr. Choi completely proved me wrong. I pulled my neck muscle working out (ughhhh the perils of being 30!) and was super scared at the time since I have never really had any serious injuries in my life. I don't know if pulling a neck muscle counts as a serious injury, but it sure felt life threatening at the time when I couldn't move my head in any direction at all! After 3 days of some serious pain I had to do something...anything! I went to see Dr. Choi and he cracked my neck twice (scary!), then my back (that part felt great!) and that was it...with 3 cracks I felt soooooo much better! I am a total skeptic when it comes to chiropractic. However, I am now a believer and I have seen the light!! One year and three mattresses (very expensive one I might add) later I am now sleeping pain free and through the night thanks to Dr. Rick. About 15 months ago I started having terrible back pain during the night. It got so bad that I actually had to get out of bed, sometimes at 3am. Being that we had a mattress that was about 7 years old and that it started to get a little mushy I chalked it up to the mattress. So we went down to our local Mattress Discounters, who by the way is also Sleep Train, and laid on no less than 20 different mattresses from every vendor out there. To make a long story short, we went through three different mattresses and none of them helped my back. We finally settled on a Simmons Beautyrest Black Label which is a stupidly expensive mattress. Every night I would still wake up in pain cursing my new (and rather pricey) mattress which I now had buyers remorse for. I started to think that this is what the rest of my life would be like and I was horrified by this. I decided it was time to see a Chiropractor and a doctor. So I called a very close friend who was a Chiropractor in Oregon and explained the situation to him. I told him the story to see what he thought and to get his opinion and that I had scheduled an appointment to see a Chiropractor. He told me that it actually sounds like it might be internal and to go see a primary care physician in addition to the Chiropractor. I scheduled the appointment with the chiropractor for Tuesday and my doctor for Thursday. Tuesday came, went to see Dr Rick and he told me I had a rib in my back that felt a little out of place. Before i knew it i was contorted like a pretzel and what sounded like a firework show in my spine actually felt really good. I scheduled a followup visit for a week later and left. I went home that night and woke up in pain. The same happened Wednesday. Thursday I went to the Physician and she was dumbfounded by the whole thing and ordered a CT scan and two back x-rays. Friday morning I woke up to the sound of my alarm at 7:30am. I looked around the room to see if I was dreaming. I sat up and all of a sudden it hit me. I had slept all night long and my back didn't hurt AT ALL!!!! I couldn't wait to go to bed again to see if this was just a freak thing. Saturday night I slept like a baby. I called Dr Rick and told him the story. It wasn't news to his ears as he's probably heard stories like this all too often. Was it the psychological effect of having just gone to the doctor or was it Dr. Rick? I am now convinced that it was the latter. I have been sleeping through the night ever since, pain free, and I owe it all to Dr Rick. I am a believer and I have seen the light! And I LOVE my new mattress. Wow, hands down, the best chiropractic practice in town. I went to Dr. Rick because I was having real bad neck pain that was numbing all the way down to my elbows. I thought well, this'll take some crazy therapy to fix, as I am a body builder and have had a lot of injuries throughout the years. Not the case here. I was in and out within 15 minutes and I came out feeling like a different person. My range of motion was so much better, i felt so much more loose and best of all, the pain had calmed so much more. We have a 3 month old baby boy who has had a hard time turning his neck to one side from a bit of a traumatic birth. A friend of mine said her little guy had the same issue and recommended Dr Choi.
