We had a very unpleasant interaction here. My father briefly pulled in (less than a minute) simply to show me where the disposal area was located. We were not dumping anything, not blocking anything, and not causing any issue. The owner came out immediately and spoke to us in an extremely hostile and disrespectful manner, repeatedly stating this was private property. When my father explained he was just showing his daughter the location, the owner responded with, "Who is she?" in a very dismissive tone. There is a way to enforce rules without being rude. Based on this interaction alone, I would much rather drive elsewhere to a business that treats people with basic courtesy. read more

The garbage man that does Great Barrington thursday mornings is an awful human. Absolutely no respect for the elderly customers including my 83 year old grandmother, who's on her own most of the time. There have been multiple instances where while bringing in groceries for her while I vist, where he has verbally yelled and harrassed me including making threats because she is unable to bring the garbage can up a steep hill and to the end up the driveway. Most weeks when I dont have time to run over to her house, she gets the garbage can a few feet away from the sidewalk. I understand this isnt ideal but this man is more than capable to move the can an extra five feet to his truck. He continued to scream and harrass myself and my elderly grandmother including saying "hes from NY so hes not going to take it" to A 83 YEAR OLD WOMAN. Extremely disappointed by barbato for hiring such an aggressive terrible person. read more

Excellent TRASH transfer station. A residential type car or truck absolutely filled with 'Dump Items', Trash or... Anything unwanted... can be dumped here for $12., their minimum charge, They provide all kinds of trash service including dumpsters and roll-offs as well. Hillsdale, NY Rocks! read more

I'm a janitor at a school which Barbato services, and when we had a problem with one of the dumpsters (a hole had rusted through and was leaking), Barbato was super polite on the phone, and a rep promptly came out and replaced the dumpster. Well done. And when I had a question about recycling details (about whether plastics really need to be rinsed), Barbato responded promptly, politely, and informatively about the whys and whats. Excellent trash and recycling service. We use them on contract for weekly garbage and recycling pick up. They'll take extra trash for a nominal fee with a quick phone call planned in advance. I've taken truckloads to their facility in Hillsdale when doing garage clean out. Just drive in on the scale going in, weigh again going out. It's super easy/affordable. Dumpster rentals, too. Attempted to get a dumpster and was told our power lines were too low on our property. No problem! Got Central Hudson to come hook our lines up higher! Called back and was told that a week ago, they'd come look at the place again. Haven't heard a thing since. Disappointed, poor customer service! And the lines have to be high enough, Central Hudson pulled into the driveway without an issue, to adjust the lines! Oh well! Called Waste Management and they want our business, and were a lot cheaper! Wanted to hire a small, local company... maybe if they returned one of my 12 calls they would've gotten my business. read more

OK, he seems to be a great waste collector, but the facility when you have to drop off stuff is like the worst place in the whole world. An entire huge warehouse with a mountain range of rotting fetid garbage. I was literally retching and couldn't wait to get out of there.
