"Budget King" aka Carniceria El Rey is a staple to Corona. If you know you know! The meat is priced the same as you would find at any other market but the quality is through the roof. I'm never worried if the meat is fresh or not because the meat speaks for itself. The marinade is perfect, salty with a hint of sweet from the oranges. Throw some asada on the grill so it's a little crispy on the outside and melts in your mouth! We love a family owned market that upholds their relationship with the community. Please keep in mind this is a smaller shop (not big stroller friendly) the parking is limited & the entrance can sneak up on you. Carneceria El Rey is a legit mom-and-pop spot. From the moment I walked in, the service was helpful, super friendly, and welcoming. I honestly felt like part of the family. I ordered the marinated asada, marinated chicken (leg meat), salsa, and fresh flour tortillas. I BBQ'd the meat at home and it was absolutely amazing. You can taste the marinade in every bite. This little Market, also known as Budget King is amazing! It's family owned and it's been in our town forever. It's a quaint little store with plenty to choose from . Victoria is a wonderful woman who helped me pick out some meats. I brought home three of the Ranchero ribs. I've never seen those kind of ribs with so much meat on them ever in my life. We barbecued them up and they were delicious. I could only eat one because they were so meaty! I also purchased some Al Pastor but that's in our freezer for the next barbecue!! my son had already bought Carne Asada somewhere else. I begged him not to because I wanted to try this place out for Carne Asada. So Victoria was kind enough to give me a little sample and that's in our freezer. II'm a big fan of carne asada and noticed that this place had good reviews, so I wanted to see if it lived up to the hype. After a 30-minute drive, I was not let down. I ordered two different carne asada dishes: one marinated in lemon and the other in orange. Both were excellent, though I preferred the lemon marinade while my wife liked the orange one more. Their customer service was exceptionally welcoming; they truly treated you like family, an older gentleman whose face is on their logo, letting me know how he started the business. I also spoke to a young lady; I believe it was the daughter. Her service was awesome, great energy, and best of all backed by the quality of the food. When I moved to Corona 30 some odd years ago this was my go-to for asada, pollo, al pastor, etc. But, for no particular reason other than proximity to my home, I migrated to a different carneceria. I decided to give El Rey another shot. I purchased a few pounds of the orange marinated carne. It was terrific. The only downfall was the $16.89 per pound price. I was shocked at how expensive this cut of meat had become. So much so that the next day I visited a competitor to compare prices...$12.97 per pound is what I found. At El Rey, the woman that assisted me was very friendly and conversational. The meat was good, so I have a decision to make next time, do I pay $4 per pound more and go to this friendly place that has terrific asada, or do I save money and go to the other nearby carneceria? read more

Came in on Father's Day to get some carne asada. With the help of Yelp, I thought this was the perfect spot to get some carne asada. I was wrong. The white lady at the counter said they had carne asada but it was getting refilled. She asked me how many pounds and she would get it ready for me. Once I got home and started the grill, hubby was not impressed! He said come and look at this meat. It's long thin pieces. Ready to grill carne asada should be wide pieces. It was so thin in length, it was falling in between the grill. Sadly I won't be coming back. Super friendly, making anyone feel like a regular. I regularly buy beef short ribs aka costillas marinated with orange and other spices. I also buy the ranchera in the orange marinade. I've purchased up to 15 pounds of fresh trimmed short ribs Un-marinated too, without hesitation. There is so much meat on the bone. The price is competitive and it saves a drive to Orange County carnecerías such as the bull and the queen if you know those two. I also enjoy the snacks and beers from tall cans caguamas and 12 packs. I can't say enough and will always go here first before any other place. Hands down the best Carniceria in the area, Carniceria El Rey (aka Budget King Meats of Corona) has the most incredible marinated meats, as well as a wide selection of goods.
