My family recently booked a fishing trip with Just Cast Charters, and unfortunately it was one of…read morethe most disappointing experiences we've had. We specifically paid for a jetty fishing trip, but we never actually went to the jetties. Instead, we were taken to a bay bridge where the fishing was very slow and we didn't catch anything of any significant size. After some time, the guide asked if we wanted to try shark fishing. Since none of us had experience with it and my 5-year-old son was incredibly excited by the idea, we agreed. What nobody explained was that this would involve nearly two hours of simply sitting and watching lines in the water. There was no casting, no holding poles, and very little actual fishing. We were essentially sitting still, hoping something would happen. Looking back, I wish I had spoken up, but I trusted the guide's judgment and assumed there was a plan. Even after an hour with no action, we stayed in the same spot. I felt that a good guide should have recognized the situation and adjusted the approach rather than letting so much of a four-hour charter pass without giving us opportunities to actively fish. The most heartbreaking part was seeing how disappointed my family was. This trip included my dad, mom, husband, and young son, and we were all looking forward to making memories together. Coming back empty-handed was tough, especially after spending so much of the trip inactive. To make matters worse, when we returned to the dock, another boat that had been out on a similar four-hour charter came back with more than 10 large fish. Seeing that made me wonder what had gone wrong with our trip and why our experience was so different. I was also uncomfortable that our captain smoked while on board. Overall, I felt misled about what we had paid for and how our time would be spent. The experience left me feeling crushed and disappointed, especially for my son, who had been so excited for the trip. Based on our experience, I would not recommend Just Cast Charters. I'm sharing this review in hopes that other families can make an informed decision when choosing a charter.

The 12 hr fishing trip starts at 0730 and ends at 1930. Some people in our group had gone before and they recommended showing up at 0530 to get checked in, and make sure we were one of the first people in line to get a prime table in the inside cabin of the boat. Just fyi there's only so much space indoors, if you're late, you'll most likely be sitting on the outside deck where's it's definitely hot during the summer. We went during the end of July and from what I've heard this is prime RED SNAPPER season. Just know that federal law limits red snapper to 2 per person with a minimum length of 16" to keep it. Other fish, for the most part are unlimited depending on their size and type of fish you catch, like vermilion snapper for example. As far as the experience goes, expect a 4 hr boat ride out to sea, 4 hrs of fishing, then 4 hr boat ride back to Galveston. This is a full day event. They let you bring food and non alcoholic drinks on board as long as you use a small soft cooler or backpack only. No big hard coolers or alcohol allowed. Luckily they also have a grill onboard with a variety of snacks, burgers, hot dogs, quesadillas, drinks, and beer for sale. That double bacon cheeseburger was SO GOOD! After you get back to Galveston, there are guys waiting to clean/filet your fish for a small price if you want as well. Enjoy, I'll definitely be back again!

First time fishing! Overall it was cool…read more Once you sign up for the tour they send you a ton of info via email when you book and just before your vist. Go over it all carefully, before you go. Its located right next to Katies Seafood in Galveston, if your familiar. Its more like a check in shack, no bathrooms. We did the 4 hr tour, this was enough time, we went to 3 seperate fishing locations. Boat ride to get out there is pretty slow, so prepare for that. What's nice about this is they provide the boat, rods, bait etc. And you just show up with your fishing license. You can bring your own soft shell cooler with snacks/food. It's a nice family outing. If you are a novice fisherwoman this is for you. There was 2 guys going around giving basic casting info, and They help you get your fish out the water, and store it until you get to shore, then you get the fish directly handed to you. They do seek out tips at the end of the ride. The con is that because you are so close to the next person sitting to you fishing your hook gets caught and easily tangled up with your neighbor. It's good for there business to maximize seats but not great from fisherwoman perspective. Too much interference/competition the people sitting next to you. and there's fisherman on the dock around the boat after the tour that will break down your fish right near the deck for $5.00. Caught 2 catfish, but due to size was not able to keep. Pros and cons for sure.

The fishing reports have stated that this season hasn't been great, but we wanted to wet a hook…read more After multiple stops the boat had caught our red snapper limit. Mostly 18 to 26 inches with a few exceptional fish. Then we began fishing for vermilion snapper having no catch limit. I specifically asked for guidance to catch them from our deck hand. With this info, my son and I caught an additional 16 fish. On the ride back I spoke with many other passengers and they were not given this advice and they had little success with the Vermilion. Lack of communication is a weakness with many businesses, including this one. Such an easy way to significantly improve client experience. Had the boat been communicating with the fisherman during the 4 hour ride out to the fishing area, explaining equipment use and techniques would have significantly reduced line entanglement (which always happens) caused from novice fisherman. The boat was full, so when demand is high, a business does not have to work hard for it's clients. They have lots of room for improvement, but at the end of the day, we caught fish. The prices (for the trip and on the boat) were reasonable and we had fun. My son and I were happy.

I'm not sure if he was the owner or just a booking manager but he was not on our trip as we went off with Captain Mike and Donnie the deck hand. I will say this, Captain Mike was kind of a jerk. He didn't know we had 18 coming. I think he only thought there was 12. But I'm not sure why he would be frustrated with this. I had to pay him in cash the remainder and he didn't know the remaining balance either. After that was takin care of he was just sour saying the waters not good, too much wind, etc etc. Start with a positive note! Donnie on the other hand is the man! Cheerful and talkative and super helpful. Set all our lines up, cut the fish up and threw all lines out. We were able to land a huge redfish within 30 minutes out in the jetty. Now this is where an issue we had come in. We are all from out of state, Houston and the website addressed that we all just have fishing licenses and when we do get the red drum tag. We did it all online since we are from out of town. However we didn't get physical red drum tags. So we weren't able to keep any fish. This is where Captain Mike turns around and felt our frustration. He tried his best to figure out this scenario for us but in the end we didn't have physical tags and it didn't work out. So we decided to catch and release. Caught another big one had a good time and rush reeling it in. Got back to dock, tipped Donny who was the man and Captain Mike for trying his best for us even after a grumpy start. I would book them again. Things to note: the boat is older but their prices more than are reasonable for what you get!
