Caroline visited me twice because it took me 2 months to get used to breastfeeding (even with my 2nd baby). She found a problem no one else had identified causing intense soreness during feedings. Caroline is a lifesaver. I found her on yelp, called and texted her the night before (as we were at wits ends - exclusive pumping to get baby back up to birth weight, baby was causing pain at latch) and she showed up (like Mary Poppins!) the next morning to help! Caroline provided incredible advice on how to get the baby to the breast, proper alignment between baby and Mom, insights on cries, burping and the like. Despite seeing a lactation consultant every other day at the hospital, having the in home consult was invaluable. Caroline could assess the situation, check out the furniture and props you have and help you create the proper nursing setup. I cannot say enough about Caroline's lactation consulting. The best decision I made as a brand-new parent was to meet with her on my baby's 6th day of life. I broke down crying in Caroline's office while telling her about my traumatic delivery experience and the problems I was having with breastfeeding. Caroline was incredibly reassuring, calming and supportive. She gave me a plan of action and I can honestly say she saved breastfeeding for me...I had latch problems, milk supply issues and total reliance on a nipple shield, and after a few sessions with Caroline, I was able to latch my baby and feed him, and best of all, see him gain weight. Caroline warned me that she couldn't make any guarantees, but she gave me the tools I needed to achieve huge breakthroughs in breastfeeding. In fact, I became confident enough in my breastfeeding that I weaned my baby off the nipple shield without even needing Caroline's help -- she empowered me to get to that level of comfort and faith in myself. I have now been joyfully breastfeeding my baby for six months. I thank my lucky stars that I met Caroline so early in my parenting journey. I cannot speak highly enough of Caroline! I had no idea what I was doing breastfeeding. I was exhausted and it was really painful. She came over at a moments notice (I got her through Day One) on a Saturday morning when my baby was 9 days old. She immediately could see what we were doing wrong, and showed us a better, painless way to latch on, and gave some great pointers on better ways to burp him, when to nurse, etc. She also followed up several times over the next couple of weeks to check on how we were doing. Her dedication to my success as a breastfeeding mother was remarkable, and I can honestly say that I am still breastfeeding my ever-growing newborn today because of her generosity and encouragement. I contacted Day One in desperation when my one-week-old daughter was having trouble getting back up to her birth weight. I had been exclusively breastfeeding since my daughter's birth, but was plagued by difficulties from the beginning. From latching and positioning problems, excruciatingly sore nipples, and concern over my milk coming in, worrying about my baby losing weight was the last thing I needed. Thankfully, Caroline was available for a consult the very next morning and everything has been better ever since. Long story short, Caroline helped me establish consistent, repeatable feeding techniques, educated my husband and me on how to read and respond to our daughter's cues, and reassured me that I will get through those tumultuous first few weeks of breastfeeding. But did that support stop after her visit? No! For a good two weeks thereafter, Caroline took my calls, answered my texts, and even stopped by a few more times to weigh my daughter and provide spot-on advice when any unexpected problems arose. Caroline has been an invaluable support throughout my breastfeeding journey. For me, breastfeeding started at the hospital right after my c-section. The first nursing moment with my baby is something I will never forget, it was simply so special! However, a few days into breastfeeding I had cracked very sore nipples. I called Caroline, who quickly diagnosed that my baby has a very thick, short tongue (almost tongue tied) and helped me with positioning baby and adding the nipple shield to our nursing routine. I cannot emphasize enough how amazing Caroline is. She has such positive energy and is so knowledgeable.
