However, Carol's biggest draw for me are the handmade chocolates. Made locally, they are fresh and come in a variety of shapes and flavours. There are candies in glass jars, instead of plastic bulk bins like at the grocery store. They also carry a lot of imported sweets, for those who like something a little different. I grew up loving Pez candies, and Carol's has loads of them in all sorts of different characters. There are boxed chocolates for quick gifts, but you may want to take some time and try one of their truffles from their counter. It's like a little piece of chocolatey heaven melting in your mouth. Honestly, I think I got goosebumps because it was so sinfully good. Carol's also has cookies and chocolates at their counter, and right now everything is Halloween-themed. I have an incredibly huge sweet tooth and when I walked into Carol's Sweets, I fell in love. This store was candy from wall-to-wall. They had pretty much everything you could possibly want - numerous chocolates, fudges, hard candies, soft candies - everything. The girl working was sitting behind the counter eating candy (it looked like Tangy Taffy). She didn't pay much attention to us until we brought some fudge up to the counter but I didn't mind because I was so darn happy to be buying fudge! Carol's in a great candy shop if you are looking for the hard to find candies that you had as a kid and bring back all the good memories of childhood. I like how it makes me feel like a kid again! This visit I saw new candies such as different flavoured Mentos including cinnamon (my friend is a fan and bought a few rolls) and cola, and Crush pop and root beer flavoured licorice. Also brought back memories with jelly tots, lace licorice, fun dip, Thrills gum, and nerds. Great selection of those hard to find candies and feeling like a kid in a candy store. They also have benches outside the front door so I could enjoy sitting there eating candy. The only difference is I needed more than the 50 cents I had as a kid and could load up on candy! read more

Today was the first time I was ever in Carol's Sweets, which is kind of weird, since I love chocolate and candy. The first thing I noticed, when I walked in, was the chocolate pizza. It looked so delicious. On the left-side wall, there's tons of clear jars full of colourful candies. I thought the Lego candy was rather neat. I'm not sure if they would be good for building, but they are definitely good for eating. They also sell Jelly Belly jelly beans here, which are my favourite. The sours are amazing. At the back of the store, I noticed some imported candies, like Raisinets, Goobers, and Sno-Caps. I think these candies are popular in the States. I just like anything that is foreign to me. read more

I have such fond memories of coming to Carols when I was a kid - especially for a variety of different kinds of licorice candies from the licorice wall... And now when I pop in, that licorice wall still is my very first stop. I don't know anywhere else in town that you get so many unique types of one specific thing. Then there is the vintage candies and candy bars from decades past. The European (especially British) treats. And the pie de resistance; their own chocolates and truffles! Yum!! If you have never been in to Carols, I urge you to make a trip. Not only will you absolutely love it, but they are flanked by other amazing locally owned businesses as well. I have no complaints really with the products they sell, except maybe the inconsistency of size of their hand-made chocolates, which are always tasty. No, what I need to express is my distaste for the person who works there...the young-ish woman who has a bunch of tattoos, ratty hair and the need to talk incessantly about her personal life non-stop. Once she gets to know you, she will talk your head off and you have to escape the store, while she is still talking at you. Not once has she ever asked me how I was or how Iike the candy I have bought. I think she is related to the owners...maybe their daughter? Why else would they have someone like that working in their shop? I gave this company 2 stars because their chocolates ARE delicious and the owners, when THEY are working are really pleasant. My wife and I returned to Carol's Quality Sweets last weekend, easily spending just under $50. I got my cherry lips (soap candy), and they were pretty fresh, as opposed to some other places where the candies are hard as rock. The fudge Carol's has is creamy and decadent, definitely a must-buy. We also bought Nut Rolls (peanut), and Chick on a Stick, which is like a giant peanut butter chicken bone candy. I pick sweet over savory any day, so I always have to mentally prepare myself when I walk into this store and either give myself a budget or item limit. Lately I have been limiting my sugar intake and so have been searching for some yummy NSA (no sugar added) treats. These are mainly geared towards diabetics and you can find some in supermarkets but the selection is terrible and in general they are hard candies. To my delight Carol's Sweets has a whole wall dedicated to NSA treats including many gummy candies, chocolates, and soft caramels. I basically purchased some of everything so I could try it all - and now I don't know what I am going to do next time I go because it is ALL delicious!! What a terrible problem. I am very impressed with the selection of sweets in general but think the NSA selection is exceptional (best I have seen in Edmonton so far). This is a family run store where the truffles and chocolates that are sold at the front counter are all made by the family for the patrons. I love exploring this store. It always has my favourites. If you are looking for that fancy licorice, they have it! Such a great place to shop for British imports as well. Vintage; if there is a specific candy that you loved as a child, this store will have it in one of their many bins lining the wall. Specific flavor of jelly bean? They probably have it! This is just what I pictured heaven looking like as a kid and I found out a couple days ago that my definition really hasn't changed much. I walked into Carol's and was completely overwhelmed by the amount of sweets and chocolate in this little store! There were familiar things such as Nerds, Jelly Bellys, and Tangy Taffy, and things I had never heard of before like Honeybears and Red Licorice Alsorts. There is also lots of chocolate, lollies and PE. The candy is mostly in jars and you have to bring it to the counter to have it dished out in a minimum of 50 grams. I tried the Honeybears and Red Licorice Alsorts and loved them both. I would love to visit this store all the time, but unfortunately my jeans wouldn't appreciate it. read more

It's hard to get excited about this store. There's plenty of candy, but someone decided that their P-touch label maker wasn't getting enough exercise... it seems like there's more labels than there is product! Also, with the candy stored in glass jars and the aforementioned labels around warning "you break it, you bought it", it makes for a nervous experience, especially if there is more than one person in the candy shop. The selection was reasonable, the man behind the counter was friendly, but the prices seemed high. We might be back if looking for a specialty item we can't find elsewhere... until then, it probably won't be on our shopping destination list anytime soon. read more

Yet, despite the wonders like imported candy, corn candy, coconut marshmellows (or Coconut Orgasms as I refer to them), I can understand how some looking for a particular import candy might be let down. While it may not carry everything, the collection is quite reasonable, and I've never had any candy from this store that was anything less than fresh. It actually amazes me that I have never come across this store before. It's pretty much a giant candy jar. It reminds me of Christmas because it has a large variety of Christmas themed/colored candies but they have candies for all occasions. They have something like a thousand chocolates and candies to choose from which makes it extremely hard to get out of this store quickly. The candies are delicious, the chocolates are even better. I am in love!! This adorable shop not only carries the most amazing sweets around, they also have a whole bunch of imported chocolates, sweets, spices, and sauces! Carol's is a great shop; bright, clean and easy to move around in (for a candy store). There was so much here I wanted to try, but once I found my favourites, I was done for the day. Lovely little candy shop. In the same complex as Paddy's Cheese and Black Kettle, which means parking can be a pain. But totally worth it for the variety of old fashioned candy, hard-to-find import varieties, jelly belly jelly beans, some cake decorating stuff, chocolates in the glass counter display... I loved all the glass jars they have along the counter and also by the front wall. Totally a vintage penny-candy experience, though I think they probably cost more than a penny nowadays! Some interesting candies I noticed that you can get there: Cadbury Curly Wurly, a long caramel bar covered in chocolate which is my friend's treat of choice, Rowntree's jelly tots (which I loved as a kid and was thrilled to find here), and these confectioner's sugar-powdered 'bonbons' that they have in glass jars behind the counter - I was recently at a wedding where they had these as part of their candy bar, and the strawberry ones taste just like strawberry Mentos. Yum! They had lots of other flavours too so I will definitely be back to check them (and other goodies) out! read more

So friendly and warm. My dad was looking for treacle toffee and the staff let him taste one before he committed to buying some - and I think he bought 200 g! I love to come here and indulge every once in awhile. There's so much variety, among them many hard to find treats from Europe. The in house chocolate is delightful. I usually come to get a bag of Jelly beans. They have an easy dispensing set up with lots of different flavors. The only thing is it's a little expensive. I always feel like my little bag isn't even near half full and the price always turns out to be more than I had intended. But all the treats makes you feel like a kid again and the staff are usually friendly and helpful. They just celebrated their 25th anniversary this weekend and were handing out free chocolate samples and goody bags! read more

Every special occasion should include something special and i was so happy i found this incredible shop. My son loves chocolate and I was looking for a unique idea for his 21 st birthday. Was I ever lucky to stop by. I was blown away by all the choices from nostalgic sweets and candies to decadent chocolate. I mentioned he was a musician and she went to town boxing up a beautiful array of chocolate music notes drums and guitars. I was so pleased . She boxed it up with tissue and it was beyond my expectations. My son was so surprised. I really would recommend this great treasure of a store. Definitely returning! read more
