My daughter began on camera acting classes with BBAS 2 years ago, and I finally decided to write a…read morereview. Clearly we both love them, they work! My little one began modeling 3 years ago, and looking back now, I wish I started her classes at this point, as BBAS gives the skill to audition for modeling, and it turns out there is a lot of acting within modeling. Two years ago my child set a goal with her theatrical agent, LATalent, as she wanted to expand her performing to the moving screen. At that time her agent directed us to Brooke Byler's on camera acting classes. Previously my child had stage experience through ballet and musical theatre, but on camera in LA is a whole different ball game. We began using their online classes for both acting and improv. Right away I saw her improvement in the audition room, and within the first month with classes she booked her first commercial! What I didn't expect was the changes in other areas of her life. She gained confidence socializing with friends. Empathy, understanding different people, backgrounds, and values. And her stage presence in ballet and musical theatre improved immensely. She soon qualified for the advanced classes, and after a year on zoom we moved to the in person classes. At this point we've worked with every coach, at every location, and you can't go wrong. They teach scene study, memorization, improv, warm ups, and audition technique in a fun, encouraging environment giving my actor the confidence of knowing what to expect at auditions and on set, and instilling a growing love for acting. She chose to challenge herself with a summer of privates biweekly, and her skills soared. She learned how to show genuine feelings, and how to hide her obvious joy when she was enjoying what she was doing (acting mad, but feeling happy, she'd be smiling sunshine while saying angry lines). She learned to cry on cue. Her range could be Disney, could be drama. For our first year auditioning theatrically, we called on BBAS to coach or film every time. BUT then this crazy thing happened: my child was able to film her own auditions!! And really well!! She gained confidence in her choices. She knows how to warm herself up. She can film the whole thing herself. But she still chooses, for some auditions, to call in her coaches. She's now 10, has been on sets with acting and directing LEGENDS, and her entire acting schooling is thanks to Brooke Byler Acting Studio. Even though she's been successful, continuing to train keeps her competitive and she leaves every class like her first: bubbling over with joyous energy.

Once in the room, there was no instruction given to us three new people who showed up. The instructor Julianne? Was extremely rude, and in another setting we would've have a big problem. I felt more comfortable being in the back of the class because i was having a hard time following along. She then proceeded to tell me that nobody cared about my dancing and that nobody is looking at me and neither is she even paying attention to me and there was so need for me to stay in the back. WTF you're the instructor but you're not looking at your students movements? Shouldn't an instructor do that to correct and provide feedback?! The students were so much nicer than her . Two people came to me to give me encouragement, they were really sweet. Her tacky and unwelcoming comment turned me off, i left a few minutes early. Ultimately I found another studio to commit to. Additionally, she was doing some weird Movements, it felt more freestyle than a beginner into to bachata and salsa.

The ladies here are amazing! I thought it was going to be really intimidating to join considering I do not come from a background of dance, nor do I feel I can maintain choreography, but the moment you enter through the doors the babes HYPE YOU UP!!! It starts off with stretches, and then at times we do what I call "ice breaker warm ups" which is either drills or my personal favorite, a dance circle tagging in the gals for their turn. Then we go into learning the choreography. THIS IS WHERE I THOUGHT I WOULD STRUGGLE... I mean I still do, but Saucy (the instructor) teaches at a beginner pace. It's intimidating to ask questions considering you look over to the other babes and they got it nailed down. But she creates a warm environment that truly makes it a safe space. After we learn the choreography and then do it in smaller groups to have more space, we then do optional filming. My advice... FILM. Am I the most camera shy? Yes. Do I blank out in front of the camera? Yes. Is it intimidating? Yes. But do it for your dance diary journey. While filming, these girls genuinely HYPE YOU UP and make you feel so sexy. I never thought I would be able to feel confident in my own skin. I'm only 2 and half months in my dance journey, but coming to this safe space to unwind is my favorite part of the week. It's not a competition but a place to come to unwind and feel sexy with the best babes!

We've already seen "The Jungle Book Kids" and "101 Dalmations" at J*Company Youth Theatre at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center in UTC. I was surprised at how professional these performances were! The kid-actors range in age from about 7 years old to 18 years old. They are surpisingly very talented in acting and singing! The stage decor and costumes were delightful as well. We got a group of 20+ to go together as "Family Day at the Theatre." All mommy's and daddy's enjoyed the performance but most importantly ALL OUR CHILDREN WERE ATTENTIVE AND EXCITED! Our children, ages infant to toddler, really enjoyed the performances ... imagine that! We plan on continuing to attend the plays in the 2008-2009 Season (and beyond) and maybe later...enroll our daughter in classes (beginning at age 4). The J*Company 2007-2008 15th Season included: High School Musical; The Jungle Book Kids; AIDA; and 101 Dalmations. Next season, 2008-2009 includes: Pocahontas; Into The Woods; and Fireflies. Plan ahead! I have one more hint ... each ticket is $16.50 (for anyone older that 2). However, if you get together ALL your friends and buy 20 tickets at one time ... the tix are ONLY $10.50 a piece! But if you are looking for a way to bring your child into the arts, pull them out of their shell, and introduce them to a fantastic group of kids from all over the county, J*Company is the place to do it. The director, Joey Landwehr is a wonderful person and teacher. I guarantee your kid will absolutely love the experience here. And then we get to the productions themselves. Every production is so well-done. The last play, The Pirates of Penzance was absolutely charming. Kids and adults were laughing and cheering throughout the show. Many of the performances sold out.
