Absolutely fabulous place! Very welcoming ! clean well appointed and friendly! The only downside was no microwave however I have a feeling had we asked we could have received one?! Nice sitting areas and fresh cooked eggs to order in the morning! The owner Ann was a joy to meet and Alice (praying I have the right) was amazing upon check in and Andrea in the morning cooked our eggs absolutely perfect! We stayed here for our anniversary and hope to return again and again! You will not be disappointed! Love this place!

UPGRADED room - $195/night - The Carriage House Inn - AIken, SC May 7, 2022 Go to the Willcox - you'll be happier/safer!

I booked a room in the "main" house/part of Aikens's The Carriage House Inn, 2 months prior to my stay. 2 days before, I realized work would prevent me from arriving on Friday, as I had planned, so I called AND send an email (please see below), requesting my room be saved. The person who checked me in was also the person who responded to my email, and the recipient of my phone call. Upon arrival, there was some confusion about my room, but eventually my key was given to me, and I proceeded to my room. Imagine my shock/surprise/fear/embarrassment when I opened my door to find a man (who was not an employee) on the other side of the door - IN MY ROOM TO WHICH I HAD JUST BEEN GIVEN A SET OF KEYS! It turns out - we happened to have the same last name; 2 completely different reservations (no relation) and when I checked in, they decided to put me in the same room as this man!!! Fortunately, this happened at 4PM on a Saturday afternoon in the Spring - so there were people around, plenty of daylight, etc. It could have been a very different scenario had I arrived, let's say, at 9PM...or, what if I was the 1st one to check in, and they'd given this man (with the same last name as mine) keys to MY room, w/o me knowing it? I went back downstairs, explained the situation, and was told there were no more rooms in the "nice" part of the hotel, so I was given a room in the 3rd building back (pictures below.) The room was dated, and the "jacuzzi shower" looked like something from the 1970's "honeymoon in the Poconos" I was told I was given an upgraded room...you'll see the photo below...you, too, can enjoy this luxurious stay for $195/night... My room faced a street across from what is apparently a dog park, and while I love dogs, I do not appreciate being awakened by them at 5AM, right outside my window. My room had an odor to it...not sure if it was mold, a dirty A/C vent...the washcloths were dirty and thread-bare (see photos) I emailed and wrote a letter, requesting management review my stay and "make it right", i.e., considering the inconvenience I incurred (including the shock of walking in on a strange man) and this is the response I received... From:carriagehouse@gmail.com Sent: Monday, May 16, 2022 3:26 PM Subject: Carriage House Inn Hello , I apologize for the late response but Anne Thomasson (owner) was out of town for the past week and I wanted to speak with her regarding this matter. I would also like to apologize for the front desk error regarding your room and Mr. Lewis's room. This is not a common error, thank goodness, but unfortunately mistakes do happen. We try to place our guests in the room/building/bed type of their choice but this is not always possible or guaranteed (which seems to be the case for most hotels). Our front desk associate did try to accommodate you by upgrading your room to a king bed and jacuzzi- free of charge- ($169 per night instead of $195). Your invoice reflects a charge of $169 a night for two nights, not one. The first night charge was due to a cancellation that was not in the 48 hour window. We are a very small hotel and when we lose a room due to a last minute cancellation, it affects our costs and expenses when the room is not sold. I understand that you were disappointed not staying in the main inn but we could not ask Mr. Lewis to move once he was checked into that room. Unfortunately, we had an almost full house and we were not able to honor your request for the main inn but we feel that an upgraded room was an acceptable solution. I hope that this explanation helps you to understand that the situation was a mistake which we tried to amend with an upgraded room. We want all of our guests to enjoy their stay and leave on a happy note and we are sorry that you were discontented. Hopefully, you will visit in the future and we can upgrade you to a suite in the main house. I hope you have a great day! Thank you! Manager Carriage House Inn So - all of that for almost $400.00! My advice - stay anywhere BUT The Carriage House Inn...it's not safe, and they don't seem to care! Something has come up at work, so now I will not be arriving until Saturday, probably between 12-3PM. I realize it's too late to get a refund for Friday PM....so I'll just look at it as a very late check-in! Thank you again! What a lovely place to stay. It is just beautiful. The owner greeted me andbrought me to my room and showed me the amenities. ( the airconditioner is really quiet) I'm in the new building that is so southern and super quiet. I love the decor. Parking is safe. My room is beautiful with white bedding, unique furniture and a big jacuzzi tub and shower The grounds are beautiful and pristine Lovely breakfast rooms. Nice personal service Dogs are welcome , nice in a horse town This is private yet so comfortable One more thing. I have to find out what mattress they use. It is super comfortable If I could give it more stars I would They do try to be green and have u decide if you want everyday linens changed or at your preference. No feeling of scrimping just caring Owner is very willing do make you stay special Lovely breakfast in a southern manor feeling room. Lots of pastry choices, Good coffee, hot meal cooked to order and served to you on white tablecloths with fresh flowers

My husband and I stayed here for a night and absolutely loved it. Very clean and the beds were super comfortable. The rooms were nice and the property was so beautiful. I hope we find ourselves visiting Aiken again so we can go back. Perfect walking distance to restaurants and bars too!

I stayed here for three nights just recently. Absolutely lovely property, very comfortable rooms, Quiet and private. Every morning was a breakfast cooked to order, and the staff that I encountered was superior, very accommodating. I highly recommend this if you were in the Aiken area as I know I'm going to stay again and again!

VERY disappointed in afternoon tea at The Willcox Inn in Aiken, SC. Why? Because I didn't have it!…read more I was extremely disappointed in restaurant management when I was told today that afternoon tea was only served after 3pm. I had booked online reservations 7 days in advance, clicking on the 'Book A Table' button on the Afternoon tea link on the Willcox Inn website which took me to Resy Open Table page. The times showing supposedly for afternoon tea was 12, 12:30 and 12:45, so I chose 12:45 and typed in the note box specifying that this is for Afternoon Tea. It gave me the reservation time and sent an email confirming. I then CALLED Willcox Inn to confirm the date, time, number in party for AFTERNOON TEA, telling the lady who took my call that I was calling to confirm afternoon tea time for 4. The lady confirmed she had me down and repeated the details. So two sources confirmed an afternoon tea request, online and human. When I arrived at the dining room of the Willcox today at 12:05pm, early, I was told they only serve tea after 3pm. I was very upset, especially when it was the restaurant's fault for NOT specifying on the afternoon tea page that tea was only available after 3pm. We were told there was nothing they could do and they apologized. My friends and I had traveled from Evans, GA, forty-five minutes away to be told 'sorry, no tea', after I had confirmation from two sources. To make matters worse, we were told there were no tea foods, no scones, no tea sandwiches that could be served to us at 12:30 when everything would be available a few hours later at 3pm. The chef even came to our table to coldly state she could not prepare any scones as she had to feed other diners. The very least a manager could have offered to guests who had traveled distance and were denied what they were given confirmation for, was to comp a meal, and provide an explanation of errors on their website. I will never return to this establishment because they simply do not care about their customers. With today's use of social media, everyone is a reviewer. And this restaurant failed in providing good customer service, and failed in attempting to correct inaccuracies due to their negligence in advertising correct times for afternoon tea. Anyone who booked afternoon tea through this page should have their reservations honored, despite the restaurant's negligence. I do not recommend this restaurant.

Stay in the main building. If you room faces the street, you will not hear the bar. The elevator is an antique and must have the reception come run it for you. The stairs make you feel you are in a fabulous time warp. Also the 12' ceilings, giant windows, and excellent period architectural details. It also really looks the part for the ghost rumor we heard. Downstairs with lobby entrances are a bar and an Indian restaurant. The exit out back through a very New Orleanian crumbly terrace was packed with people from 6pm on. You can walk all over from here but must like shabby chic and Southern friendliness. Our AC worked fine, room was old and clean, plenty of towels, toiletries and breakfast. It reminded us of shabby fabulous places in NYC and New Orleans. And, a surprising bargain (2bed room + breakfast + downtown parking= $78.) for the center of town.
