We chose this hotel to get away from the chain hotels, and try something more southern-charm-y. Looked great online, we were definitely excited, and looked forward to something more bougie, as we were in town for a wedding. The staff member (woman) who greeted us showed none of the southern charm we hear so much about. We felt like we were a burden during check-in. We saw her one other time, and she didn't ask how things were going, and walked away from the desk when we walked toward her w a question. She was not present when we checked out. Aside from the blasting AC--joy to our northern ears--we were really disappointed with our room (the one at the top of the stairs in the main building) and generally underwhelmed w the hotel experience. Upon closer inspection you see that the hotel is shabby and in need of some attention. The issues w our room included: the dresser drawers having improperly long bolts/screws which snagged clothes multiple times, nearly ripping items. The room didn't look clean; stained carpet, as well as areas of carpet w water damage, as the AC unit dripped nonstop. It's safe to assume the staff is aware of the problem, as there is noticeable staining on the wall under the drip. All of this extra moisture left the carpet soggy under the AC vent, and the room smelling musty. There were stains from, god only knows what, over our bed. And the cherry on the cake was the cockroach we saw running around our bathroom on our last night. We've stayed in loads of hotels in the south and have yet to have had that happen. Need needed to cancel my reservation in plenty of time. Kept getting on a phone tree with just robots. Couldn't get through. When I did talk to someone in reservations, they were rude arrogant, and wouldn't let me talk and hung up on me. Our confirmation email indicated that we had a refund. The woman robot I talked to in canceling reservations said we had a nonrefundable rate. Not tru, we did in our email confirmation. She also disconnected me. This is a terrible way to run a business and I will never go back and never recommend it to anyone. read more

Breakfast food tastes like it was out of a bag from the frozen food section & even the morning pastries tasted like they were bought at Costco or some commercial grade. Room was sufficient but tired. Nice sitting areas and fresh cooked eggs to order in the morning! I booked a room in the "main" house/part of Aikens's The Carriage House Inn, 2 months prior to my stay. 2 days before, I realized work would prevent me from arriving on Friday, as I had planned, so I called AND send an email (please see below), requesting my room be saved. The person who checked me in was also the person who responded to my email, and the recipient of my phone call. Upon arrival, there was some confusion about my room, but eventually my key was given to me, and I proceeded to my room. Imagine my shock/surprise/fear/embarrassment when I opened my door to find a man (who was not an employee) on the other side of the door - IN MY ROOM TO WHICH I HAD JUST BEEN GIVEN A SET OF KEYS! It turns out - we happened to have the same last name; 2 completely different reservations (no relation) and when I checked in, they decided to put me in the same room as this man!!! Fortunately, this happened at 4PM on a Saturday afternoon in the Spring - so there were people around, plenty of daylight, etc. It could have been a very different scenario had I arrived, let's say, at 9PM...or, what if I was the 1st one to check in, and they'd given this man (with the same last name as mine) keys to MY room, w/o me knowing it? I went back downstairs, explained the situation, and was told there were no more rooms in the "nice" part of the hotel, so I was given a room in the 3rd building back (pictures below.) The room was dated, and the "jacuzzi shower" looked like something from the 1970's "honeymoon in the Poconos" I was told I was given an upgraded room...you'll see the photo below...you, too, can enjoy this luxurious stay for $195/night... My room faced a street across from what is apparently a dog park, and while I love dogs, I do not appreciate being awakened by them at 5AM, right outside my window. My room had an odor to it...not sure if it was mold, a dirty A/C vent...the washcloths were dirty and thread-bare (see photos) I emailed and wrote a letter, requesting management review my stay and "make it right", i.e., considering the inconvenience I incurred (including the shock of walking in on a strange man) and this is the response I received... Your invoice reflects a charge of $169 a night for two nights, not one. The first night charge was due to a cancellation that was not in the 48 hour window. We are a very small hotel and when we lose a room due to a last minute cancellation, it affects our costs and expenses when the room is not sold. I understand that you were disappointed not staying in the main inn but we could not ask Mr. Lewis to move once he was checked into that room. Unfortunately, we had an almost full house and we were not able to honor your request for the main inn but we feel that an upgraded room was an acceptable solution. What a lovely place to stay. It is just beautiful. The owner greeted me andbrought me to my room and showed me the amenities. ( the airconditioner is really quiet) I'm in the new building that is so southern and super quiet. I love the decor. Parking is safe. My room is beautiful with white bedding, unique furniture and a big jacuzzi tub and shower The grounds are beautiful and pristine Lovely breakfast rooms. I was very disappointed with my recent stay at this unique Inn When I made a reservation for myself and a female traveling companion, I was told only one room available which was in more of a suite with a single queen bed and a sofa which was doable. We usually get a room with two beds and I did ask to switch if one becomes available. When we checked in on a Friday afternoon, I was told the room reservation had not changed. We were directed with keys to a room on the 3rd floor at the very back of the building. To our surprise, we were obviously was a two-bed room with no sofa and just a coffee maker. So this was fine except the room had an unpleasant smell and was also damp. The room air condition was on but never improved the feel of room conditions for our two-night day. We did not see office staff again and did not complain to one kitchen staff on duty. The breakfast included was some frozen microwaved unappetizing items. The very pleasant kitchen staff said she was no longer preparing a regular fresh breakfast because of required kitchen updating This Inn needs to correct problems with room condition and discontinue to advertise the breakfast included. Repeated calls to the inn were never picked up and there was no voice answering system. When I booked this place I did not realize it was a bee and breakfast/hotel. I am glad I did book it though. It is a beautiful town called Aikens SC. The building is a very historic land piece with a few buildings surrounding it as part of the 37 room hotel. You park in the free parking on the street. I was unsure where to check in but that was at the front door with steps. Disclaimer- there are NO elevators so if you have heavy luggage and are disabled it is very hard to get to your room. The room I was given has a bed that was almost as tall as me. It was very comfortable once I could get into it. I loved the breakfast but did not have cash for gratuities. Once again, I didn't know you needed to bring cash. There is a beautiful courtyard and some rooms have views and hot tubs. I recommend letting them know if you are short so you do not have room 223. Super cute little hotel with a great southern feel. The beds in our room had a hard mattress and a soft one. Kind of weird, but it was nice to pick which one we wanted to sleep in. The bathroom was very nice. Hotel was clean. Only complaints I had were the noise level of other guests (as an older building will present this issue) and the smell of the room was only what I can describe as like a funeral home. read more

My husband and I stayed at the Carriage House Inn earlier this month (room 128). The carpet appeared to have pet stains all over - throughout two rooms. They charge extra money for pets and should make sure any carpet stains are removed prior to each guest arrival. We travel often with our dog and have stayed in countless pet friendly accommodations over the years - NEVER have we encountered apparent pet stains all over the carpet. To be clear - just because guests travel with a pet - it does not mean we expect the carpet to appear nasty. This place had the potential to be charming - but, in my opinion - they apparently don't care much about their guests if they think the condition of the carpet was acceptable. This is a lovely and friendly place. Staff are super helpful and rooms are comfortable. You are definitely in a house, so the walls are not super sound proof. Probably best to keep a private argument for another time! The breakfast served is pretty basic and definitely 'no frills'. They do alway have a variety of breads and cereals available as well. Having said that, they will make special requests if you ask and they have the ingredients. My main gripe is that they didn't do a great job cleaning the room. We were there a couple of times for over a week, so that does sometimes cause a lack of attention from the maids, but I had to request them to sweep when I really thought it should be standard (especially when there is dirt/crumbs) on the floor. When asked, they did happily do the work. Housekeeping also offered to allow us to use their washer/dryer if we needed, which I thought was super thoughtful. read more

I wanted to book a block of rooms for our wedding in October. I initially called in January and was told it was too early and to call back in a few weeks. I called back numerous times and always was told that the manager would call me back. Finally in April I was able to officially book a block of rooms. However, today I was called and was told that they double booked and I no longer am able to have a room block. I had already told guests about this block and put it on invitations. I find all of this unacceptable considering how early I started to call and also that it took over two months for them to find the error of the double bookings. read more

The main room, which you can relax is charming. Tea and coffee available all day...often fruit. I loved my room and the location is in the middle of downtown Aiken. I came here with my daughter for a horse show in February 2018. I don't think I have ever meet such nice people in all the traveling I have done. Breakfast every morning was fantastic. The staff is phenomenal. The location is great. The room were clean and very well kept. I don't have enough room to write how much I truly enjoyed staying here. This has been the worst customer service experience I have ever received from any business establishment. I tried to buy a gift certificate for my father's birthday in the mail. After calling back 3 times it was mailed 3 weeks late. Emily, the Receptionist, took down my card info incorrectly, didn't get the certificate in the mail on time, didn't give messages to managers when I asked her too and was extremely unprofessional. Carol, who is the "Manager" talked to my father after he finally received his $200 gift certificate and she told him it was only good for a 1 night stay in a premium stay and couldn't be divided up to pay for some of a 2 night stay in a lower priced room and they pay the difference. By the end of the call, Carol had made him so angry that he asked her to refund the amount to me and that he'd rather have no present then to stay at the Carriage House. It has been 1 week since he asked for this and my credit card has not been refunded. I have called twice and given my credit card number to the Carriage House 4 total times now. Only to find out that a check was put into the mail for me. However, the check was written out to the wrong person. I will now take the incident to the BBB as I have asked for the owner after 5+ calls and she's been "out of the country" for weeks. read more

This is a rare B and B / hotel combo. They started as a B and B and have expanded out the back as a hotel. The new hotel rooms are nice, new, with modern amenities save a USB charger outlets. Where this place fails is 1) housekeeping and 2) the normally superior breakfast. Breakfast is okay, but juice is left out to get warm and despite a chef on staff, they couldn't even concoct a veggie omelette bc they didn't have any veggies on hand. The remainder was a weak continental offering of muffin and cereal. My main issue was housekeeping, other than making the bed, housekeeping was nonexistent past check in. No one emptied the trash, wiped out the sink, changed the sheets or replenished the towels. The luxury of daily housekeeping is normally one of the perks of staying at a Hotel or BNB, is good housekeeping and I normally tip $5 a day. The good - it is conveniently located to downtown and a number of restaurants and stores. If they can address housekeeping lapses and kick up the breakfast, stars could be earned back easily. Also - not all rooms are created equal. The front old B and B rooms are very nice and there are some apartment options available. read more
