We did not have any experiences even in "the most haunted room". Which was good because we were on a drive and needed the rest. Additionally, the hotel is CLEAN! Which is always a concern of mine but not here. No bad smells. No humid or musty rooms. I have allergies and asthma and slept better than I normally do.

If you're a history or railroad buff don't miss this stop on the highway. There's a ton of railroad history in this little burg - and it's got one of the last surviving wooden water towers from the steam engine railroad days. The tower is in gorgeous condition and surrounded by a water pump, a BNSF caboose and a reconstructed Depot and (it's a fly-in destination too, remember) a static display old Beech 18. Though not in lovely downtown Emporia (probably a 10-12 minute drive), the campus of Emporia State with the National Teacher's Hall of Fame is a couple minutes drive from the Hampton Inn. Coffee maker in the room and ice maker in the front office, TV and refrigerator in the room, air conditioner worked great. Plenty of electric plug-ins, more than usual for a motel of this vintage.I typically bring an extra extension cable with me, but didn't need it here. Free Wi-Fi that actually worked! Bed seemed comfortable when I laid down on it, but I was stiff in the morning. That might just be me, tho. We always bring air mattresses with us to places like this, and I guess I should have taken the extra 10 minutes to blow them up. Most hotels we stay in have uncomfortable beds in my opinion, and usually worse than these. I would most definitely come here again, if for any reason I was in Yates Center again. My nephew and I stayed here one night and were happy to see the motel right off the trail. There is a pool, but it is currently closed due to the Corona Virus. The pictures posted of the rooms and lobby of the motel hide some of the shabbiness, but it is clean and does the job. There is an ice machine, and our room had a mini fridge. It is located right next to a Mexican restaurant, a local cafe, and one mile from McDonald's and Sonic. I would stay here again for an economical and no frills night.
