Patients should not have to act as their own billing department after treatment just to understand what they were charged for. This…read moreoffice uses the more expensive porcelain for crowns without advising patients, then bills the patient. Then lies about the charge after I called to question the non-itemized bill. My initial visit was a consultation. Dr Ryu stated that I needed a deep cleaning, cavities filled, two crowns and partial dentures. Because I'm on a fixed income and on Medicare, I immediately asked, "WHAT IS THIS GONNA COST ME?" He replied that my $5k dental benefit would cover everything. After all approvals, and work, scheduled me for the two visit, deep cleaning. one of the temp crowns came off. About 10 days later, the same temp crown came off, yet again. I was notified that the permanent crowns were in. Great! Two weeks later, one of the permanent crowns came off. After reattaching the crown, Dr Ryu mentioned that when flossing, I should just pull the thread through. I don't use old fashion flossy twine, I use Plackers, micro line flosser picks. 60-90days later, I receive a non-itemized bill for $162. WHAT! the office, she tells me my Humana didn't cover the deep cleaning. Dr Ryu said all work is covered! She asked to call me back after discussing it with the Dr Ryu. I NEVER heard back. Permanent crowns were attached on 3/28/24. On 6/4/24, the same crown came off while eating dinner. On 6/5/24, I head to the office to have it attached, yet again. 25-30yr crowns.have never come off. The receptionist tells me that no services would be rendered, until the $162 is paid. As you can imagine, I'm livid! My tone and volume were high. The office manager threatened collections & the police. Dr Ryu brings me to an examinations room & lectures me on how insurance works. Starts out with, "I'm in network and my RCD (I think that's the acronym he used) prices are high, and he's already giving me a discount. NO, as a Medicare provider, you already know what's being paid. Then tells me that medicare only pays for one reattachement &do I expect him to do everything for free? I'm getting angrier by the minute. I reminded him that just like they didn't proceed with the crown until they received an approval, that's what they should have done with the deep cleaning. He then said that Humana approved the deep cleaning, then changed their mind. WHAT!! He went so far as to say that approvals are reversed all the time. This is the reason his staff wasnt able to advise me of the charges. He states they'll write off the $162 and reattached the crown at no charge. When he was done, he walked me to my car, through the BACK door. Once outside, he says he thought we had a good relationship, Yada, Yada, Yada, & that I was wrong for yelling at his staff. I reiterated again, that I've never had something approved & resented, ever. Mind you, he's told me three times now, that insurance does that all the time. I contact Humana to file a complaint. The representative no predetermination for deep cleaning was submitted.In fact, the deep cleaning was indeed covered. She ask if I had an infection, inflammation or severe gingivitis. Again, NOPE. She then says the porcelain used for the crowns is extremely high quality & they shouldn't come off. She noticed that the charges were for the high quality porcelain, crown fussed noble metal. It appears I possibly didn't need the deep cleaning, & I definitely didn't need such a high quality porcelain. They're required to submit the proper coding to the insurance company, so why wouldn't that same information be in my file? Its unethical to use higher quality materials, then send bills to patients. A grievance is being filed with Humana, along with a conversation with the Texas State Board of Examiners.

The new patient paperwork is available online to fill out prior to your initial visit. I had already used up my x-ray benefits and the front desk was very quick to discuss with me what the charge would be with insurance. After I was seated in the exam chair, which is comfortable by the way, I was greeted by one of the doctors to discuss my toothache symptoms. Dr. Lewellen detailed my x-ray scans and described everything in simple terms as well as the necessary action plans needed to keep my teeth in good shape. Unfortunately, I needed a root canal in order to relieve my sensitivity and they were able to fit me in the same day. Dr. Budhani (the dentist who owns the facility) was brought over to perform the procedure and was very informative and provided a calm atmosphere before they began the procedure. Both doctors and assistants were professional and made me feel at ease with the procedure and continually checked on me throughout the procedure to make sure I was doing alright. This is a fantastic establishment staffed by professionals who truly work hard to make their patients feel at ease and comfortable. I'm so happy with the work done and would gladly recommend Drs. Budhani and Lewellen for anyone seeking a dentist who genuinely cares about his/her patients!
