We went to a body shop we were told about in Toronto and had it fixed for less than $1000, including tax and an oil change. The second time, this week, the damage to our other car was more serious. Our hood had popped open on the highway and smashed the windshield plus other damage. We had it towed to Fix Auto and the estimate was $5000. We made it clear we were not going to use our insurance and since the car was 10 years old, we wanted the minimum required to make the car safe and drivable. We were assured this was a fair estimate. When we were waiting for a tow truck to take it to the other body shop in Toronto, for a second estimate, the manager said he could fix it for $2500 if we left it there or brought it back. The shop in Toronto is fixing it for $1700. Fix Auto may be acceptable if you are charging it to your insurance company, but make sure you get other estimates if you plan to pay yourself. He provided me with a very reasonable sounding quote for the work involved, and promised to do whatever he could do in order to minimize the cost of the repairs (ie. source out used parts in order to save me $$$).
