I was looking to try a new hairdresser in Orleans and was recommended to Roy Jouni (owner) at Carte Blanche Spa on Innes. I happily met Roy, and had a pleasant experience with my appointment. Was offered wine, and chatted easily! Long (and expensive) story short, my hair turned out nothing like I had expected. Both cut and colour were extremely choppy, not properly blended and I have a blonde lions mane around my face (so I can't pull it back to hide the two very different length of hair I have). I tried styling it myself, different ways to wear it... but nope. I know that this can happen, and decided not to be rash but instead to let him rectify the situation. I emailed the salon, and they said to come in for Roy to take a look at what needed to be done and we would book the appropriate appointment afterwards. I was satisfied with this response and agreed to meet at the salon today at 6:15 pm. I arrived shortly after 6, was offered water and sat and waited... and waited... At 6:45 I went to the receptionist to say I would come back another time. She offered to go check to see how long he would be. I agreed to wait. I was not prepared for what happened next... Roy came out squinting, looking around as if someone had just disturbed him. Asked, "can I help you?" I explained that I had an appointment at 6:15 to discuss my hair with him. He said, "and you're waiting?" I said, yes but I had been waiting half an hour. To which he replied, "and you have a problem with that? I'm in the middle of a session!" I said yes, that he had set the time. He then turned to reception and said, "I'm NOT doing it!" Dismissed me by waiving his arms and walked away! At this point I welled up in tears. The receptionist was kind and apologetic. Said I caught him "in a bad moment". I reminded her that he was the owner and I promptly left. If you were one of the customers sitting in the waiting area that day, you can attest to his degrading and dismissive behaviour. I am truly shocked anyone would speak to a client this way. Never mind when given the opportunity to retain business and fix a clearly bad hair cut. I couldn't leave this alone, and let his bad behaviour continue. If you are considering trying out his salon or spa, please keep this in the back of your mind. Paying $400 to be yelled at in a lobby, for a terrible hair cut was not at all what I had in mind. If you cherish your nails go to a different spa.Tthe technician used a coarse grade file- most often reserved for feet on my hand nails and essentially destroyed them. I will never go back. and the prices are insane. definitely not worth it. read more

Awful service! Awful atmosphere! I felt very uncomfortable during my service. My hair looked nothing like the hair in the picture I showed the stylist. I'm realistic and know it wouldn't be identical but I asked for brown hair and Carmel balayage buy I walked out with orange highlights all over my hair. She tried fixing it but was worse the second time. They charged me 3 times the amount I was quoted when I called about the service. It was so so bad. The hair stylist new I was unhappy but did not care. They charged me and didn't even apologize. I had to go to another stylist to get it fixed and paid even more money. I had a horrible experience with Roy the owner and will never return here again. I reached out to him awhile back to discuss getting a silver balayage on my black hair. I was very nervous as its quite the undertaking but he reassured my repeatedly he was more than capable of achieving the look I wanted. I felt his confidence comforting and drove across town to have him to do it. I walked into the salon excited and happy and left deflated in tears. His technical work is a junior stylist at best. Balayage starts midway he started at the top of my head with a clear line across where the color started resembling a halo. The color was brassy orange and was chunky not blended. See attached pic. He knew I wasn't happy, offered a small discount and STILL charged me. My bad, I should have walked right out without paying him a cent. I left in tears and reassessed at home. It was worse than I thought. I reached out for a resolution, and was told I would have to pay again blaming it on my black hair not accepting the pigmentation properly. So then why be so confident and reassuring you can do it? ( I have whole conversation saved and screenshotted). I was then told to "find someone else" and was subsequently blocked from further contact. Hence using my sister's account to review this. Imagine a salon owner who tells the client to go somewhere else instead of resolving the issue in a professional matter. My issue lies less with the horrible hair job and more with how you handled it. You are a shady business owner ( you know why, I have screenshots of that too) and an unprofessional child who can't take criticism. You preach the word of God but aren't very Christian like are you? I am stuck at home with a baseball cap on frantically trying to find someone to fix this mess. In uncertain times like this its shameful that you treat clients like this who come through your door to support you. If it were me, I could never take a client's money who wasn't satisfied with my work. I would be apologizing profusely with a gift certificate for a small service out the door. Went there for my prom hair and they absolutely ruined my hair, from messing up the simple style to burning it and causing severe breakage near the front of my hair. My hair was NOTHING remotely close to the picture and half way through the hairstyle she told me that updos weren't her "thing". I sucked it up and paid the $110 charge, which I shouldn't have because a toddler could have done a better job. As soon as I got home it all fell apart and I was left with messed up hair just hours before prom. Insanely disappointed, especially on such a big day. read more

I was a model for the runway for hope September 28th. Carte Blanche was the stylist working on the models for the show. I have naturally curly, white/silver hair (premature greying started at 10 yrs old). I showed up with fresh shampooed and dried hair, which had curl and the stylist began to straighten it with a flat iron. No heat protectant spray was used, and she noticed my hair was yellowing. She tried to say that it was because my hair was not shampooed, but I confirmed it was clean. She continued to straighten then curl my hair with curlers and pin it to keep the curls. I advised her my hair should be done differently, as it is naturally curly, it doesn't need to be straightened, just a few curls with the wand would be good and it will stay. She said no, we have to do everyone the same way. Once the pins were taken out, the hair was very bright yellow everywhere the curling wand touched. The designer i modelled for, and I both reached out to the owner of both the barrhaven and orleans location, Roy Jouni. I was never replied to, but the designer was. He said since my hair was bleached and dyed platinum, the heat causes the toner to come off the hair exposing the bleach underneath. They cannot guarantee hair colored platinum for this reason but would take a look. She replied, saying it was not dyed, and hasn't been for 2.5 years, it is burnt as a result of too much heat. He got very defensive and banned us both from his salon. I then felt afraid to even go near the salon if he reacted that way over email, i was terrified to step foot in the salon. I posted a review on facebook. He saw the review and threatened to sue me and the designer's company for slander. He says he offered to fix it, which he did not. He said he would look at the dyed hair. It was not dyed, and i was banned, so how would he look at it. I spoke to my lawyer, since he threatened to sue me, which was very emotionally unsettling, who then said I have nothing to worry about. This entire experience has traumatized me for seeing stylists, and dealing with the owner of this salon. I will be paying out of pocket to repair my own hair, with my trusted stylist. read more

Wow. But surprised at some of the reviews. I'm visiting from the states and wanted to get a proper cut. The moment I walked on the door I was greeted by the women at the desk who checked me in. I waited about 5 minutes for my stylist and the staff was quick to offer me wine or tea should I need it. My hair was washed by one of the attendants and my hair was cut by Evelyn. Both the ladies were extremely nice and willing to work with what I wanted. Evelyn looked at my picture once and gave me the exact cut I wanted tailored to my face. I went from should length hair to a short bob with bangs and she paused every few minutes to make sure everything was exactly how I wanted . She was constantly ensuring every hair was where it should and she did not douse my hair with product. It was a fantastic cut and Evelyn was so pleasant. It was $65 for the style and worth every penny!!! I would absolutely be back. The experience was reasonably priced , pleasant, and efficient ( only 35 minutes)! Thank you Carte Blanche ! read more

I wanted to cut my long locks off on impulse last Wednesday afternoon, and being in the Barrhaven area, I decided to make an appointment at Carte Blanche. I was able to get a 6:45 appointment with Aleesha. The salon was almost empty at this time, with a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. They washed my hair and added a scalp massage which was heavenly! Aleesha gave me a great cut, exactly what I wanted. I highly, highly recommend this salon. It also was within my budget, which was the icing on top. read more

Okay so I am not spa a person a lot and especially high end. I had a wedding to go and walked into the new spa in Barrhaven. I got my nails done by Melanie and Ryan and wow they did an amazing job. Not recommended , even if you were desperate for a cut! Went for hair cut at the Salon on Innes, and was very unimpressed with the services provided. The place looks amazing, staff is supper nice but i received a cut and blow-dry with one of the girls working there and i was not impressed at all. I could have done a better job if i cut it myself. The best part of my experience there was the hair-wash where another staff gave me a scalp massage and treatment. She was supper! But stylist are not all that. When I called to complain, they were not very client friendly and did not offer to fix my cut. read more

Appointment for wash and blow dry scheduled for 12:15. Had to ask if I'd been forgotten about at 12:40. Hair stylist didn't apologize, proceeded to burn my head with the hot water which she obviously didn't test, then splashed water all over and into my ears. Again no apology. This is about the 4th time I've been and I keep hoping for great service but to no avail. I met the owner years ago when he had the dream of opening his own salon. I had my hair and makeup done for a wedding at the location on Tenth Line Road. Both were on time and all staff were pleasant and courteous. The stylist (Emily) was lovely and did a good job. I then had my makeup done by Leen and she did a phenomenal job! I felt absolutely gorgeous! I am not someone who ever gets makeup done and the 2 times previous in my life, I was underwhelmed or embarassed at the final product. Not with Leen. She is talented! Highly recommend! read more

** bad bridal experience ** had to fight for a promotion on website ** late for my own wedding photos!!!! I decided to book my bridal services at Carte Blanche because of the location and bridal promotion they have on their website: day before manicures + day of makeup for $75 bridesmaids and $95 brides they advertise on their website. After booking, they suggested I do the manicures at their lounge location and hair and makeup the following day at the spa. I was fine with this idea. Unfortunately this presented huge problems for me when trying to get their advertised promotion prices. They asked me for proof in which I sent them a screenshot of their website. It took some convincing, but they finally accepted it. That was not the only problem. Since the beginning of the booking process, I dealt with unanswered emails and telephone calls. They were going through a transition with employees which I understand is difficult but I believe most establishments would have responded better to a large (9 women) bridal party. The day of was a disaster. The management used my sheet which was the schedule of which woman was with which esthitician at a specific time. I was called upon 3 times to get my hair or makeup done between 9 and 10 when none of the people calling me were the people I had a PAID trial with, nor was my first appointment starting until 10AM. Finally 10am rolled around and it was time to get my hair done. The stylist I had a PAID trial with, came to get another woman. I asked what was going on and I was told there was a scheduling error. To this end, I didn't get started until 10:45 when they started my makeup, not my hair. Then finally went to start my hair at 11:30. It's difficult to describe just how frustrating this all was as I had organized this all very well and mentioned many times over the 6 months of planning that I ABSOLUTELY had to be out by noon. I'm sure you all know I was NOT out by noon. I was late to my own wedding photos meaning the thousands of dollars I paid for my photographer, started to go to waste because Carte Blanche could not take the wedding seriously. And hadn't taken it seriously since the beginning. I will say that my stylist and esthitician were great. All of my wedding party was very happy with their hair and makeup but were all in agreeance over how terrible the organization and management is at both this and the lounge establishment. Again, I'd like to really emphasize how talented the esthiticians and stylists are. They did a great job and were all very friendly. read more
