Having been through two decades of conventional physical therapy and a decade of Rolfing, I still had so much tightness in my joints that I wanted to do something other than start another round of conventional PT. I started out with a half hour mini session. I was taught three basic exercises. Even those three could take me far, but I wanted even more. What Eric does during the appointments is teach me the somatic exercises which I do on my own at home. These exercises are to be done gently and slowly. I find them so relaxing that I am yawning as I am doing them. Yoga *never* relaxed me that much! Eric also gives my elongation of muscles a boost during the one on one sessions by giving my limbs something to push against, guiding me into positions that are specific to my muscular issues. I have seen remarkable increases in mobility, and there still is room for improvement, so I am looking forward to feeling more mobile! I have significantly less muscle and joint pain, and perhaps that is also the reason my fatigue seems less. I'm sleeping better. In only a few weeks I have seen so much improvement that I'm going to stick with "Somatic" exercises, and give up on the antiquated idea of stretching muscles. ELONGATING muscles via pandiculation seems to be the way to go! Eric seems very dedicated to helping me. He's eager to cover as much as possible in each two hour session. He supplies me with a list of the exercises with photographs to help me remember how to do them at home. The nice thing is that I don't have to do everything perfectly. Actually, some variation in how the exercises are done from day to day is a good thing, in order to reach a slightly different area each time. I'm letting my body tell me when and how it wants to do the exercises and I think that's putting me back in touch with my inner pussy cat. You see, the pandiculation is how cats and other animals can stay so supple. I'm glad I found Eric and decided to give his ideas a try.

Eric has healing power and I don't mean that mystically (although that might be true too). What I mean is that he isn't like your average massage therapist that just rubs you head-to-toe the exact same as their last client. Eric is very good at listening to you, figuring out what ails you, studying your body to diagnose the source of the pain, then working through different techniques to put things right again. I have had two visits with Eric, each one on a different chronic pain issue. Before seeing him I saw several massage therapists and they all would rub me and I'd feel good in the moment but I'd leave and be back to where I started within a day or two later. Eric takes a much more caring approach toward your individual needs and delivered lasting results. I wasn't able to run without pain, some days even walk without pain, because of a bad ankle sprain and a chronic neurokinetic issue that arose from that. It was two years of thinking it was an injury that would never heal, dealing with it in ways that didn't really help, until I met Eric and after one session and following through with his advice and "homework", I was back to running within a couple weeks. I still am so grateful for his help and thankful that I met him. Eric is very friendly, comforting and caring. I met Eric at a social event and was rubbing my bad ankle (in a fashion recommended by a different therapist, it felt good to do but never really reduced the pain for longer than an hour at most). He saw me doing this and asked what was going on. His warmness and concern for essentially a stranger was very admirable. He talked to me for a bit and even did a little hands-on demonstration of some myofascial trigger point release for me right then and there. Not only did he help soothe my pain, he taught me how I could do it myself and why/how it's helpful. It's like that saying, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime". Well, Eric not only helps you but he teaches you how to help you, which is far, far more valuable. Eric is very dedicated to learning effective therapy modalities and mastering his techniques. He has an enthusiasm and passion for continued learning to improve his skills through studying different therapy techniques. He is very scientifically minded in his understanding of the human body, especially the nervous system, the skeletal system, the muscular system, and the way they work together. His understanding of neurokinetics was extremely helpful for me and sets him above your typical massage therapist. He has traveled far and wide to study some of the best, research-proven therapies to be able to provide the best therapy possible. His constant pursuit for learning is impressive and each time I have seen him he was enthusiastic to share his new knowledge with me, which I really appreciate and look forward to each time. Eric is great at communicating and educating. To start, he's a good listener and will take time to understand your individual pains, concerns, needs and questions. During the session he is like a detective, working through different techniques to relax tight muscles and identify the source of pains or imbalances. He is always patient and receptive to questions along the way as well. At the end of the session he gives a review of the tips he shared through the session for "homework" for yourself to improve and take better care of yourself. He provides photos of the results as well as pictures of the important muscles to focus on along with the activities/stretches you can do at home. Eric is passionate about helping people. Each time I've seen him he strikes me as someone who truly cares about his patients. He remembers our previous sessions and my previous injuries and really does care to help provide long-lasting results through his therapy. I am so incredibly disappointed in my experience with Borer Chiropractic. I am bummed that this…read moreisn't a five star review and that my back issues have not been treated properly. I was having back/shoulder pain and limited range of motion. Dr. Rob Borer was recommended to me because he had a very gentle approach. Dr. Rob uses a clicky-tool to make adjustments and not his hands. At my first appointment, he adjusted me through manipulation with the clicky. After going to him twice a week for about 6 weeks, I started getting headaches after our appointments. The headaches became regular. Then, I started getting migraines after seeing Dr. Rob. I communicated this to Dr. Rob. He suggested taking xrays, because he said that I shouldn't be getting these migraines, and that maybe there is something going on with me that he wasn't aware of. The xrays shed light for Dr. Rob on the state of my spine. He said that it was good that he took xrays and that he was going to change his approach in how he adjusted me. My appointment after the X-ray assessment seemed better. Dr. Rob was more gentle than he previously. He even used something as a buffer between me and the clicky tool when he adjusted my neck. However, the next time I went to him, he didn't have the same approach as the time before. He took his clicky tool and adjusted me. I felt a migraine come on while I was still laying on the table. I asked him if he adjusted me differently, like last time, because of my X-rays. Well, he had actually forgotten all about the xrays and the new/different approach. His response to me was "I didn't change anything about how I adjusted you, I adjusted you like I did last time." Wait.... What? I didn't even say anything. I knew right then that I had to stop going to him and that he was not going to help me. I vigilantly communicated with him about my symptoms before every adjustment. He took lots of notes. I really had faith in him helping me, and went to him like he instructed me to, which was twice a week. I went to him twice a week for a total of three months. I went to him up until the time after my xray review, when it was extremely obvious that he did not have my xrays in mind at all during the adjustment. The aftermath: it is now almost three months since the last time I went to Dr. Rob Borer. I struggle with intense migraines DAILY. They are 100%, directly a result of my adjusts from Dr. Rob. I have been to my doctor several times for migraines in the past three months. I have a referral for a physical medicine doctor that I will finally see next week, after a two month long waitlist. I am on a daily medication for migraines, to try to prevent them. On top of that, I have two separate prescriptions as over-the-counter medications have not helped at all. I also bought specific glasses for migraines, so the light sensitivity associated with migraines doesn't have such an effect on me. I had to buy these (expensive and extremely stupid looking) green-light-filtering glasses to be able to go into work every day. I was struggling to work every day in a brightly lit office and the glasses help make my work environment more bearable. Sunny days are very difficult for me. Bright lights trigger my migraines. It is important to note that after I stopped going in for chiropractic appointments, I called up there to speak with Dr. Rob and tell him what was going on and why I stopped coming in. I couldn't reach him directly on the phone, but I did explain on his voicemail that I stopped coming in because I was getting bad migraines. I was hoping he would have make a new plan of action. I was hoping that he would get back to me with something.... Anything! But I did not hear back from him at all. My biggest piece of advice if you go to Dr. Rob is if you have chronic back pain, insist he take xrays before he does any manipulation. Talk with him BEFORE each adjustment about what he is about to do, so you can remind him of your plan of action every time. I do realize that my side effects from Dr. Rob's adjustments are very rare. But the pain and discomfort I now deal with on a daily basis can be all-consuming and debilitating and I felt responsible to share my experience. I'm going to end this on a positive, and that is to say I honestly enjoyed each visit to Borer Family Chiropractic. The receptionist Audrey is truly a delight. I loved all of my conversations with her that I have had while waiting for appointments or while I was checking out. I also had pleasant conversations with Dr. Rob. Also, scheduling appointments online was a breeze.
