I always stop in Carter Vintage when I'm in Nashville. But I don't get to Nashville much. So I didn't know it changed buildings! The new facility is comfortable, and there's tons of guitars. But it's not what it was. Carter Vintage used to be nothing but vintage, cool gear. Now it's mostly the high-end sibling to the Gibson Garage a couple blocks away. I'd say 70% of the inventory are fairly new Gibson Custom Shop guitars. Still kind of fun. But not the same.

So many guitars! It was fun stopping by and playing some tunes while watching other guitarists play songs. They have some famous guitars played by celebrities too. Worth a visit for a serious guitar buyer or a casual window shopper.

Stunning store with rows of gorgeous guitars. We walked around for about an hour, trying different strings and strumming instruments. We felt laid back and the salespeople did not hover or overwhelm us. We enjoyed our experience.

When I bought a Martin J-40M I did not realize that Walter Carter really had sold the business. Carter Vintage Guitars has gone down hill and I will not shop here again. When Walter was there I bought a few vintage Fenders and Gibson's from him...he was great. Last time I quickly stopped by and picked up a Martin and had it shipped. When I got it I realized it needed new a neck reset and new frets ( half the price of the guitars cost) . The new ownership's response. Tough keep the guitar you are out of luck. When this happened at George Gruhn on a 1950 D-28 I bought form them several years ago they gave me a credit for a neck reset from my Luthier in San Francisco Gary Brawer. Need less to say I will not come back and will not shop here again. I recommend you go to Gruhn's as they respect the customer

Crazy Great place for the guitar lover. 1000s on display at all price points. It seems always busy. The staff are professionals and it seems the customers are too. Carter's has an international following. Parking is mess in the area. Good luck on that.

Very friendly staff. Relaxed environment. I don't play and had very relaxing place to sit. My son would live here if he could. Nice selection. Also they validate parking in the metro garage .

Big selection of guitars, amplifiers, and various equipment. Friendly, knowledgeable staff who are more than willing to help you make an informed purchase.

Great guitar shop. They actually let you look around and play the instruments without any hawking or hassles. Best place I've ever been.

Well, they had an entire row of (left-hand) electrics from Les Pauls to Strats, and others that I had never heard of.

If you're a guitar player you'll get WAY more out of the experience, drooling over all the amazing offerings and maybe even playing a few, too! Electric, acoustic, vintage, new bodies, etc. They're sectioned into different spaces based on type and a very cool conveyor belt moves them through the showroom along the perimeter of the ceiling, too. Very flashy! They're very serious about care here, too The acoustics are in a separate, humidity controlled room. That's where my husband spent most of his time as he's been considering buying a new one. The tech was awesome and let him play a variety of options to help him narrow it down. They also have a ton of accessories, amps, bits and bobs you need to keep your investment in top shape. And they also have some fun souvenirs like tees, mugs, books, etc. And there's a fun stage where they'll have in store performances every so often, too. After a while I kind of lost my steam since I'm not super familiar with the merchandise but they staff there is awesome and we had a great time chatting and they kept me wonderfully entertained while my husband made his rounds. Great folks, great space, amazing products!

When Kim Sherman took the reigns in 1998, she raised the bar from Richard Cotten's little corner hideaway into a world class guitar shop. Her warmth and Kentucky charm was blended with her vast knowledge of guitars, artists and the know how to suite every player's needs at any price range. That's no small fete. But, she did it by treating every buyer as special regardless of the size of their pocketbook. Placing goodness and honesty over the value of the dollar, her adoring fandom grew. This year, she was able to expand her inventory to include rare masterpieces from boutique makers from the world over by her partnership with London-based The North American Guitar. And, rather than losing the identity of her great shop where genuine warmth and Nashville courtesy always reigned supreme, she carefully chose her expanded staff to ensure her philosophy was not lost. Her inventory is now world class. But, you still feel like a valued guest and a member of her guitar family. Sound corny? Check it out for yourself. Her shop is a gem by any name. It's still Kim's fabulous corner of the guitar universe, but, bigger and better. To quote Kim, her single goal is "to just do right by my customers." And, that she does, as she has for 22 years, and will likely continue to do as long as there are guitars and players who need them.
