This store, upon first glance, appears to be very high-end with lots of variety available. However, once we were approached by a sales representative and advised her of what we were looking for, she immediately began speaking about ordering a custom item. I walked around while my MIL spoke to her and found several options that she could've shown to us. We asked about some samples of leather finishes and colors that were on display and were told that those particular options may not be available. That struck me as odd. Why were they on display then? Walking around the store, I noticed several leaks in their ceiling with buckets precariously placed to catch the drips. I also saw several desks/work areas in severe disarray. That was extremely off-putting. I might visit just to check out the clearance items, but nothing more. read more

They also have the ability to special order furniture based on the color or size you need. For a lot of the furniture they have in the store, they have fabric samples so you can pick the color or pattern you want. A lot of pictures and decor to spice up your home as well. We recently bought a Beautyrest mattress and adjustable support from Carter's. I wasn't sure I could adequately evaluate something like a mattress from an online store, so I was glad to have the option to check some out in person. Our sales rep was professional and well informed. They predicted a 2 week delivery time and the set arrived exactly 2 weeks after the purchase at a mutually agreed upon delivery time. The Carter's staff delivered the set to our second floor bedroom and set it up. They also hauled off our old set. And a week later, when we decided the new set sat a bit too high for us, they came out and took a segment out of the legs for us at no charge. Overall a very good experience, an excellent purchase, and the good feeling from shopping locally. Highly recommended! read more

Very pleasant experience here! We were looking for a couch and David was very patient and helpful. He showed us multiple pieces and in the end we found the couch we wanted. Even though it was short notice Carter's accommodated our request for a faster than usual delivery as we had out of town guests coming to visit. We had our couch delivered 3 days after purchasing it! The furniture is priced similarly to any of the big furniture places, but you get the small private owned feel from the service. I had an issue with an expensive power recliner. They went above and beyond to make it right. I made my complaint and was never second guessed or steered in any direction other than what I felt would make me happy with my purchase. I'll admit it, I'm pretty cheap. We have purchased several large pieces of furniture from Carter's - from bunk beds to sofas to chairs. Each time we look at Carter's showroom to get ideas, then go to the chain stores to look for a better deal, and we have always bought from Carter's in the end! They consistently have comparable - or better - pricing compared to the chain stores, and have far superior service and selection. I also like that most of the staff we've met have been there for a decade or more and really like what they do! I Totally recommend this store. read more

Mediocre selection is a given, because this is C-U. However, the bedroom set I recently purchased was a smooth transaction, and expertly delivered. Two of the pieces were damaged and I identified the damage at the time of delivery. Carters re-ordered the pieces without any issues and subsequently delivered them. I experienced a very similar situation as previous customer Diane. I ordered custom chairs that were not properly upholstered. I was more than happy to wait for new chairs although I had already paid full price. Carters wanted to try to repair the chairs. I waited over 6 weeks to find out they didn't know if they could repair the chairs. Then, I spent another few weeks waiting for a call back. All the while, I paid for chairs I wasn't using because they were in Carter's warehouse. Finally, after several attempts at leaving messages, I had to ask for a refund in person. Carter's management could have been more polite and helpful in my situation. I was actually surprised at the way I was being treated. I have since turned away several friends from visiting their showroom. read more

We purchased about $4,500 worth of furniture from Carters at Thanksgiving 2019. It had to be ordered and didn't deliver till after the new year. The order had 3 Best Chair pieces on it. We went with Best Chair brand because of previous experience (including working as a vendor in their plants) with them as a higher end / quality / American made manufacturer. We were told the 3 units were genuine American leather. Fast Forward to August of this year and one of the recliners developed a dis-coloration spot on the head rest. When we noticed it we reached out to Carters for assistance. After waiting for a response for a week we were finally asked to provide pictures and told "it would be taken care of". It took another week for a reply to say it was normal wear. Sorry but good leather doesn't dis-color. Carter said they could order a new back for the chair but wasn't clear if it would be warranty . We did not hear anything for 2 weeks until we reached back out and was told they wanted $200 to replace the back and would offer no guarantee that the next back would not dis-color again. This was not our first purchase from Carters, we have purchased there several times over the last 25 years and always had a good experience. Their (and Best Chairs) refusal to stand behind their product will make sure this purchase will be our last from either company. If we wanted inferior quality we could have spend much less at one of the chain stores. Lesson learned; because a company used to a local owned stand up operation that can change with time and sometimes they are just surviving on previous laurels. read more

Not a kid friendly location. Went in for a set of sectional sofa, until one rep (not the manager who was helping us) continuously reminded kids not to touch the decorations. From the beginning we took turns looking after the kids, but could not stand the unwelcome atmosphere and left without deciding. read more

We have had an absolutely fantastic experience doing our furniture shopping at Carter's. The variety and quality of the furniture they carry is great, with the price range being slightly on the higher end, yet reasonable enough to fit any budget. Rich, who is the Manager, personally assisted us with our purchase. The good thing about him, as well as his other staff is that they are not pushy at all, but rather genuinely try to help you find what you are looking for. The delivery time frame was fairly reasonable as well. In fact, Rich personally delivered our furniture to us over the holiday weekend, and with guests expected, it was a gesture that was truly appreciated. Finally they delivered a new set of chairs and exchanged the ones I had. They are better but still not great. You be the judge on whether or not you would buy from a store that takes almost a year to resolve a problem. I feel compelled to update a review that I posted approx 3 years ago. In Jan. 2016 our home burned with all of our belongings in it. Throughout that year we dealt with insurance as well as having a new home rebuilt. We went to Carter's in fall of 2016 as we knew our home would be finished in December and wanted to be all ready to move the new furniture in. We purchased over 20,000.00 worth of furniture including living room, dining room chairs (my husband built our table), bonus room furniture, sewing room desk and four bed sets with the new mattresses. Of course we were very impressed with our sales rep DeeDee she was very helpful in choosing what would work in our layout. Now, almost three years later I would have to say that I'm not happy with the furniture as far as the wear of it. After only two years my daughters queen size bed frame broke, we contacted Rich the manager I believe, and he stated that they are made of solid wood. Well, my husband being a woodworker removed the mattress and low and behold it was basically super heavy duty cardboard type material. Rich acted surprised of course and said he'd SPLIT the cost of having it fixed. Obviously after that little of time we decided to just have my husband fix it with the right QUALITY material. Now, a year later the same thing has happened to my sons queen size bed and once again it's not made of solid wood like advertised but the same shabby material my daughters was. We've had one of our Thomasville recliners back at the store to be repaired already because of a seam rip, the couch was taken back in a few months after we purchased it as it had changed colors on the leather on the front. once again it was a mid to higher range priced couch. The couch was painted back to the color it was supposed to be. The two la-z-boy recliners that we purchased for the bonus room have already had the motors replaced in them and that was within the first year. We traveled from Hoopeston to purchase this furniture because obviously we don't have the selection in a small town but we thought we were getting great quality name brand furniture but I wish we would have gone to Furniture Row to be honest. When I pay this much money for furniture I am expecting it to last without fault (one piece I can understand) for many years. Very unhappy with what we got and if I could return most of it I would and just start over. I have felt with the customer service that once they sell it to you, get it out the door and maybe help once or twice (because that's the warranty rules) then they just don't care. Which is obvious in the case of the beds. I will say that I am happy with the way that the nightstands and entertainment center have held up and the fact that Dee Dee and the other sales reps are very good at their job....selling. I've learned a lesson......just because the prices are higher than the next guys doesn't mean the product is better. read more
