The first thing you notice is the fun vintage-looking Carvel sign outside. As for a review--I'll try to be honest but the truth is, I'm a DQ girly. My husband loves Carvel and he wanted me to try a flying saucer, he couldn't stop raving about it. Well let me tell you, I haven't changed my mind. The interior is standard, nothing special, pretty tidy I suppose. The service is fine, similar to DQ, but this flying saucer biscuit sandwich thing was NOT IT. My husband said it tastes different since he had it as a child, well that's unfortunate because I'm assuming that means it tastes worse. Welp, it's a chain and not a very good one, if you're here it's probably for a cookie puss or some variation of an ice cream cake. This was a nice Chocolate soft serve Carvel ice cream I've had in long time after grabbing a bite to eat from my new-found seafood restaurant in Westport, CT. This stand-alone Carvel has that distinct 1950s Grease-esque retro feel. The thing is, you can tell. The outside is gloriously vintage down to its neon sign. But the inside is far from it as I noticed scuffed marks and messy areas when I ordered my Chocolate ice cream cone and a Vanilla for hubs at their window. Person behind the counter was pleasant though. But if counter area and dirty spots are so visible, it makes me wonder how hygienic this place is. read more

Sure it was good and I was really in the mood for a shake but Carvel is right up there in price now with Cold Stone and other premium ice cream shops. I think I need to curtail my Carvel cravings and limit myself to only visiting on Wednesdays. Friday night I wanted to get some dessert for the family. I looked online and it said was open until 10. I pull up at 9:45-the owner is counting the money in the window, with the doors locked. After I tried to open the door, he looked up and basically waved me off. On the bright side, I went to Sunny Daes down the road and bought some amazing ice cream sandwiches for the family (6 for $11-12). Came here for ice cream tonight with my family and was beyond disappointed. I didn't know you could screw up the taste of classic carvel chocolate soft serve but boy was I wrong. It was absolutely disgusting and inedible. It tasted of sour chemicals. And the girl working the window was very rude. I went to this store today for the "buy one get one free" on sundaes. I had checked their website beforehand and it said, very clearly, that they honored that promotion. The person taking my order said they don't honor that promotion, and haven't for years. So I went up the street to Shake Shack and got their frozen custard. Soft serve taste the same everywhere but 9 bucks for 2 cones is surely a ripoff. And only one had a topping of sprinkles. What really did it in for me was the sign stating a dollar extra charge if you pay by debit/credit. Not only a turnoff but against the agreement with the credit card companies. Is there anyway to give zero stars? What rude owners....and their children are just as bad. Why would you charge 7 dollars for ice cream and cheat people out of the serving size? I was so frustrated for the third time with an undersized serving that I asked them to weigh it, sure enough not what was advertised.
