We were greeted with a very friendly staff and offered coffee, water before the class began. The instructor was very polite and patient as many of us had 2 left feet. He made it fun and no one felt uncomfortable. We learned three basic steps. My only disappointment is the class was too short. I wanted to keep practicing (much needed) my new skills. Though they did kindly offer us to stay and watch a group event, and take part in their group ball room open dance. We had dinner reservations and had to leave. My girls said during scheduling they weren't told about the group opportunity after. If they knew they may have reserved dinner before the private class so we could have danced/practiced longer. I guess we'll have to see about lessons BTW there was no high pressure sales tactics. Just an overview and encouragement to try classes in the future. Note: The road to the FADS entrance is on the west side of the strip mall because the entrance & parking is behind the strip mall. NOT by Garibaldis. Some GPS apps mistakenly direct you to the front of the strip mall. Don't park there or you'll have to walk around the building to get to their entrance. Have fun!

It is the art of movement that transcends the boundaries of spoken language and allows us to touch the hearts of people around us. If you're in Crystal Lake, Huntley, Carpentersville, Dundee, Algonquin, or other neighboring areas in IL, and are looking for exceptional dance instruction for yourself or for your child, you couldn't have come to a better place! The Ballet Box is an Algonquin dance studio committed to delivering top-notch dance education in a positive, nurturing environment. We are very specific about what our kids wear - we only allow classy dance uniforms with no skin showing. We're very particular even with the music. What goes in comes out, so only the best, positive music is played in our studio. For us, it's all about our students and making sure they get the quality dance education they need in a home-like nurturing environment. We welcome students from preschool, high school and college, all the way to adults aged 35 - 40. Here at The Ballet Box, we consider our studio more than just an ordinary dance studio; for us and our students, it's more like a second home where you get to grow with the people around you while continuously working on your craft.

We're new to CL and my daughters wanted to take dance lessons. Being a new dance mom (so exciting,…read moreright?) I didn't know what to expect. We signed up for Hip Hop and ballet at All That Dance and had a terrible experience since day 1. My daughter would leave class each day, crying. She said the girls were being mean to her and the teacher would do nothing about it. Fine. I get it, that's not 100% the teacher's job, so I made my daughter suck it up and continue on. But then the owner, Ellen, is very disorganized. Limited mode of communication on big events, important dates, and will call you out in front of God and everyone if you are behind in a payment. We were behind on $48 because we didn't realize the month was prorated and she shared it out in front of all of the parents and kids. That is not professional. You pull the parent to the side and tell them OR send a statement (printed) in the mail or physically hand it to them. Not all parents are stuck to their email. If you are like me, Gmail shows 1,000 missed messages. ....and don't get me started on the disorganization of the dance photos - missing accessories, and hair accessories that did not compliment my daughter's ethnic hairstyle. I also feel like what my daughter learned was subpar...but it could be the first time dance mom in me...I don't have much expectations. This company may be best for some, but not for us due to our experience.

The owner, Eileen, knows every student's name and treats them with kindness and respect. As a parent, I am consistently included and asked for my input. One of our favorite parts of this studio is that there are many different kinds of dance classes to explore. As my daughter progressed, she got trained in ballet, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, and hip-hop. Now as a high schooler who loves being involved in the plays and musicals, she is highly equipped to handle any form of dance they throw at her. In fact, as a freshmen, she was cast in all the productions at her high school which is rare. I credit the training in dance and poise she received from All That Dance. Overall, we couldn't be happier with our experience there. If you want dance instruction in a low pressure, fun environment, you have found your place!

Bataille Academie of the Danse. Where to begin? From the inside it looks great. The business has…read morebeen there a long time, Dee Dee knows how to run things, and it's a big studio with many girls. The studio itself: The facility is absolutely not to code and not wheelchair accessible. The bathrooms are disgusting and besides a new paint job, nothing has been updated. The ac unit doesn't work, making the summers absolutely miserable. The teachers: Stephanie is good, but the two other good ones quit. Colleen absolutely sucks, Jill's choreography is tired and unoriginal, Lauren has terrible mood swings, Meghan is just a bad teacher, and all of the others don't have much to do with the studio but are equally as bad (except Mitchell love Mitchell). Dee Dee, the owner of the studio, isn't a bad teacher, but she is a raging narcissist and is more interested in the Athena's, a dance team she works with, than her own business. In the past 5 years especially, she has lost focus of what's important in her business and is just a mean person. (Also Risa, one of the women who works the office is a miserable human being and is very unkind to the customers, but since she kisses DeeDee's booty all of the time, she hasn't been fired.) The dancing: There are a few solid dancers at the studio, but none of them will go very far in the world of dance. If your child wants to be a ballerina, this is not the place to go. Basically none of the teachers have had any form of professional dance training outside of Bataille, and it really shows. Bataille's strongest style is Jazz, and even there, it needs a ton of improvement. All dances are taught very slowly, so quick pickup is not something found commonly in Bataille dancers. Everyone here is extremely mislead into thinking that Bataille is great because DeeDee has made it so that they sweep every competition they go to, and if it isn't swept, it is either blamed on the dancers or the competition, never the teachers, or God forbid DeeDee and her neglect of the studio. Finances: The deeper into the studio you go, the worse it gets. At Bataille, it's basically necessary to compete. The first competition team is Jazz, then you can get invited to Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, Acro, or IDP. The catch is this: to do Jazz competition, you must be enrolled in Ballet, Tap, and Jazz. To do contemporary comp, you must be in Jazz company+ it's requirements and contemporary, the same goes for the other classes. Everyone acts like the Companies are exclusive, but in reality, DeeDee will do whatever she can in order to get more money. Honestly, that's got to be her main reason for continuing the business. She's a greedy narcissist who takes pride in breaking dancers, watching them crumble, and then acting as if it's all their fault. Favoritism: Bataille has many flaws, but this has got to be one of the worst. The favoritism at this studio is the most severe I've ever seen. The teachers very clearly put people front and centre, give them extra attention, and DeeDee loves to point out exactly why they're perfect, even if others are doing stuff at the same level or even better. If you have a child who just wants to dance for fun and won't fall to deeply into the rabbit hole, Bataille is fine, but if you believe in #batamily or hope to become a professional in the craft, Bataille is not the place for you. After years of being dedicated to this studio, I would 100% not recommend.
