There are a 2 covered areas and 6 tables for holding parties or just picnicking on the premises. It's right by a community center, as well if you'd like to hold your party or celebration indoors. It has lots of playground equipment, 3 large pavilions, a pond with dock, half mile walking track, restrooms and open field the size of a football field. They have had several farmers markets and movies in the park. The vandalism is a sad thing. I wish the Macclenny residents would take a little pride in this nice or what could be nice area. Just a 1.5 mile trail. 3 miles in all. The scenery is amazing. Beautiful views of the historic Suwannee River all along the trail. Hike ends at the majestic Big Shoals. Your experience will depend on the water level of the river, but ours was pretty impressive. Park is pristine. Trails are well maintained and easily accessible. We went in the middle of the week and were the only people there. It's really hot in the summer,so make sure you have water available. Don't miss the bat house at the very beginning of the trail. If the bats hear your voice they will start moving around and making noise. Great old Florida experience.

A long, slowdrive to the fort from there- not a walking path, but saw bikers. Once you get to the fort, park. There is a small gift shop & they can answer questions. Kids under 5 are free. We went on Saturday and there was a reactment event! Great way to experience the life at that time and hear the stories and historical information! These people are volunteers and it's their hobby that I appreciated a lot! The beach when you get out of the fort is different kind, no swimming and lots of driftwood and whatnot! The drive there and back is breathtaking following the winding road and looking at the moss covered trees that frame the road! We visit all the forts and historical sites as much as we can and this one is great!

Castle Otttis is a unique, privately-owned landscape sculpture in Vilano Beach, Florida, built by Rusty Ickes and Ottis Sadler. They wanted to build something unique and different that would go well with the landscape of St Augustine. Since both were religious, they also wanted to built something that would show their appreciation to Jesus. The Castle features rustic stone walls and an interior with elaborate cypress woodwork, serving as a venue for religious weddings and events. Its not open to the Public. It offers tours available only by appointment. So you would have to go to their website and request an tour appointment via email. The story behind it is interesting. Sadly, the owner and creator of Castle Otttis, Kendle Icke, passed away in July 2023. However, his son, who lives on the property does conduct tours for small groups of people who have reservations. His tours are very interesting with information on how the castle came to be. Apparently, Mr. Icke had a couple of dreams about a castle in great detail, which he shared with a builder friend of his. The friend encouraged him to build it and agreed to help him. They were able to get donated building materials to work with. Mr. Icke built the castle in the image of old castles in Ireland and dedicated it to his wife. Castle Ottis was built between 1984-1988. The Ickes also had a home on the property to the left of the castle. We took the tour with a small group of people, which worked out very well. There are 3 levels if you count the rooftop, where you will see gorgeous panoramic views of the ocean. This is a castle based on 1000 year old Irish castles. The tour is free but donations will be greatly appreciated. A must see if you are in St. Augustine. It is a magical experience. There are special events held at the castle, like weddings or anniversaries. It is also great for photography opportunities. This is a one of a kind opportunity. Please note that Castle Otttis does not have handicapped accessibility. Parking is available on the property for the guests. You are allowed to take pictures inside the castle.

This park was built by Walmart. I worked for the attorney who was trying to get the Walmart…read moreapproved. The neighbors were very much against it. Said it would bring crime and traffic. (Um no that's car washes and storage units). Anyway, Walmart said they'd donate the back parcel for a park. It turned out pretty nice. The first park was destroyed by angry neighbors or neighbor but Walmart rebuilt. Lots of people use it. Dog walkers, sports teams, exercise clubs, families. It has a pavilion for parties and grills for picnics. Plenty of parking too. And we cannot forget CCSO who frequently keep an eye on what's going on there, just to keep the bad folk away.

This Preserve is rich in culture from the civil war era so very educational. I think kids would enjoy it. There were bathrooms and even a dog water station for the pups. There was a trail that was off path near the water and it was beautiful. I can only imagine how much prettier it is when the trees are in full bloom. Walking under the canopy of beautiful oaks felt like the cover of a book! The only negative was it says open every day at 9am but they never opened the gate. You can still access the preserve but everyone was parked outside and on the street. I will definitely be back!
