I used Cary Travel to book an all inclusive resort in Costa Rica and round trip flights for my husband and myself. While at the resort I contracted Covid. When I went to the airport to return home I tested positive and I was forced to quarantine in Costa Rica for 7 days before I could return home. We canceled our return flight through our agent and she said she would wait to hear from us to rebook home. When we could finally fly we contacted her through email and she said she would rebook for us on the 8th day after my positive test on United, the airline we flew down on. Instead of booking she emailed me and told me to call the Apple vacations toll free number so I could hear the options for the charges we would have. We should have had no charges because United Airlines clearly states on their website that rebooking due to a covid infection will incur no charges. After being on hold for 1 hour and 40 minutes an agent at Apple told us we would have to pay $490 per person to rebook because we had to pay the difference in charge between the cost of the flight they originally bought and the new flight. We decided to book the flight, pay the charge and argue when we got home. Then upon further checking on our part we found out that United would not let me fly until 11 days after a positive test. We called Apple back, more waiting and canceled the flight on United. They refused to book us on another flight only offered to rebook for the 11the day. We booked ourselves on American and returned on the 8th day. Now we are stuck trying to get a refund for the $980 we paid for a ticket we canceled within 24 hours. Apple vacations says it will take 21-35 days to review our case. I would never use this travel agency- they should have known the travel policies- aren't they supposed to know that? This vacation was hellish and full of stress trying to get the proper paperwork to return home and our agent did nothing to help us. read more

I was told to use this agency for booking a wedding in Mexico. While booking everything, Cary Travel and the travel agent was very helpful and accommodating. However due to circumstances, the wedding in Mexico was cancelled. As a result, the travel agent I was using has taken a very long time getting back to me in regards to cancelling my trip. I told her over a month ago that I would be cancelling so it was in her radar. When I told her to officially cancel the trip, she was incredibly pushy and confusing explaining what would happen as a result of me cancelling. I told her to cancel and that I would like a confirmation email with how much I would be losing, and it has taken over 10 days and I still have not received anything. AND an additional credit card charge has gone through on my card and I'm not sure why when she claims to have cancelled everything already. Would not recommend. read more

It appears that since I had already booked my hotel rooms they were no longer interested in helping us book our air transportation. Commissions were likely insufficient for this business to continue with my request. Booked a prepaid trip to Canada in July - nine nights of hotel accommodations, air, and rental car. When we arrived in Montreal, we learned that Cary Travel Express had not paid the hotel. We ended up paying twice for the three nights there. When we questioned Cary Travel Express, we were told the agent could not reserve the nights through the service she used. First they helped us find the perfect river cruise but when I picked up our travel documents yesterday I discovered they had had a fire the afternoon before and were temporarily doing business out a storefront around the corner. Just got back from a 3 1/2 week tour of Europe. Cary Travel helped us plan and book the entire trip. London, Paris, Athens, Santorini, Rome and a 10 day Mediterranean cruise. They booked transfers, hotels, cruise and even some excursions. Everything was perfect! All the private transfers were executed perfectly and the hotels were all small well located boutique gems. The cruise was exceptional and they even had flowers and a birthday cake waiting for us upon arrival. Unbelievable personalized service and advice in an on line world. We were offered this vacation by Cary Travel Express and Mayflower Cruises & Tours. They did an awful job in every way including service from one of the Cary travel employees that joined us on the tour. I will never buy another vacation from them again. Now to the boat. The food was awful. We were not given any choices before or while on the boat. First meal started with sardines and anchovies on a plate. I like anchovies but these were bad anchovies setting the tone for the rest of the meal and future meals. Next meal was tuna that was run in a blender until it turned to paste and a stale piece of toast. Next was fish that smelled bad. We tried eating on the boat one more day but it did not get any better. Even though we paid for all the meals we ate off the boat for the rest of our meals. Worst food I ever ate.. Now to the bedrooms. We paid for the top of the line. So keep in mind this is there best and it only goes down hill from here. The bed was like laying on a couple of sleeping bags when camping in the wilderness. Stiff, skinny, and virtually no support. Like a bed you might find in a crappy RV or crappy bed you pull out from a couch. Last time using Mayflower, last time traveling on small yachts, and last time to Croatia. Spent $20,000 on this trip including all flights to get there. read more

We used Cary Travel Express to book our honeymoon and it was our first time booking anything through a travel agent. While I don't feel they got us any better of a deal than we could have gotten ourselves, it was nice to have someone do the work for us. We did not find them to be helpful in choosing a resort to stay at. We wound up choosing a recommendation from a friend and were very happy with that choice, but our travel agent seemed to just be throwing so many options at us that we didn't know what to go with. We told them when we wanted to go, where we wanted to go, and they gave us the price and set all the transportation and everything up for us. We would recommend them if you want to go through a travel agent, although we probably won't use them again ourselves. read more

My wife and I booked our honeymoon to Italy for March of 2020. A few weeks prior, several hundred cases of Covid broke out in the region we were planning to visit. We BEGGED our agent and the owner to let us reallocate the money we had put down towards a different destination. They outright refused, played the situation down, and made us to feel like we were overly dramatic idiots. Italy and the US had to literally put a travel ban in place for ANY concessions to be made on their end. They kept more than HALF of the money for the trip and blamed us for not getting travel insurance, which wouldn't have covered the Pandemic anyway! I find it very hard to believe the company's partnerships with the airlines, hotels, and railroad providers weren't refunded on their end. While we understand that a Pandemic was unthinkable not too long ago; the total lack of empathy for our situation, and refusal to work with us on a solution spoke volumes about Cary Travel Express. If you're looking to book any sort of trip with a company that will truly value your business, look elsewhere. read more

Find another travel agency! My husband and I booked a river cruise from Cary Travel Express. My husband is 80 yrs. old and handicapped. It was explained to us that the sightseeing excursions along the way required very little walking. This was not true, which resulted in us missing a number of excursions. He was also told that, when on an excursion, he would have the option of sitting on bus and waiting for the sightseers' return. Again, not true. The bus driver required that everyone exit the bus at the beginning of each excursion. So, on multiple occasions, he was left trying to find a bench to sit on where he could wait for the rest of the group. In addition, Cary Travel Express added an insurance policy to our trip that cost about $800. We agreed to the policy, assuming that they wouldn't recommend a fraudulent insurance company. My husband was was hospitalized for one night and the insurance sold to us by Cary Travel - -Trip Mate-- has not paid anything for the hospital care. We have been trying to get a payment for the past four months. When we asked Cary Travel Express why they sold Trip Mate's policy when the company had such poor reviews, the response was, "We were told to." read more

Tried to go in to speak with someone about a trip for my wife and I when a small dog came out of nowhere and started barking. My 2 year old was so freaked out she started crying and we had to leave. No one came to the door to say they were sorry or to see if they could help bring us back in to talk. I realize that pets are "family" but this caused them to lose my business.
