Tonight I had one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever encountered at Montecristo in Paramus. I stepped away from my table for roughly two minutes to use the restroom, leaving my jacket, my drink, and a cigar I was actively smoking. When I returned, my entire table had been cleared including my cigar despite my personal belongings still being there. I asked to speak with the manager, Ric, to explain what happened. Instead of taking ownership or attempting to resolve the situation, he told me he "didn't know I was coming back" and decided to clear the table anyway. Even after I pointed out that my jacket was still at the table, he simply said it was an error and there was nothing he was going to do. What made the situation even worse was his attitude. He then questioned whether I had purchased the cigar there and tried to tell me I should have paid a $10 fee for bringing one in something I have NEVER been charged in my many previous visits. Rather than acknowledging his mistake, he doubled down. I suggested a simple goodwill gesture allowing me to buy a replacement cigar at a discount and he flatly and rudely refused. When I asked what he could do to make the situation right, he said "nothing" and ended the conversation. Mistakes happen in hospitality. What's unacceptable is the complete lack of accountability, empathy, or basic customer care from management. The dismissive and confrontational response turned a simple error into a truly negative experience. Based on how this was handled, I will not be returning and I would strongly caution others about the level of service they can expect if an issue arises. read more

You can spend an entire afternoon going through their selection. The best part is the staff encourages it. No rushing, no pushing. They encourage you to take your time. They are also very knowledgeable and helpful with their recommendations. The store is well-laid out and there is something for every budget here. They are friendly to new cigar hobbyists as well as seasoned ones. Prices are fair. Fellow customers are also friendly and always willing to strike up a conversation. JR Cigar is a cigar mecca destination offering top of the line cigar brand selections. My wife & I had a nice dinner in New Jersey. I wanted to swing by JR Cigar and buy some cigars before heading back to the burbs. The JR cigar selection has to be the most extensive offering I've ever seen. I grabbed a few of my go to cigars but I wanted to try something new based on their expert opinions. I walked to the counter with my cigars and I saw a few behind glass. I asked and was told these are our recommendations. I bought an AVO classic torpedo. Connecticut Shade wrapper with a slight taste of spice. Nice recommendation. If it was 2019, I would have went to the bar, lit up and had a drink. Now, its buy your cigar and split. I wish JR would come to Long Island! read more

I don't write reviews very often, but I feel like I need to share this experience. I went to this lounge on Monday with some friends to buy cigars and relax. We ordered two single shots of Hibiki whisky. The bartender, Michelle, couldn't find the price on the POS and said she needed to ask the manager. I joked, "It's not going to be $50 per single shot, right?" without getting a clear response. 5 secs and said, "Oh, you know what? It's premium; it costs $50 per single shot," and charged me $100. I felt something was off, but I didn't want to make a scene with my friends there, so I let it go. The next day, I called and spoke to another bartender, who told me they actually sell it for $25 per shot. Honestly, this felt like a scam, and it was as if Michelle thought I wouldn't catch on. I hope the lounge gets this sorted out and makes sure their staff isn't pulling a fast one on customers. read more

not having been here in a long time it hasn't changed ( that's a good thin) The only thing that's different is my son's band is now performing there from time to time. I think it's a great place for up-and-coming bands to perform and meet new people and other bands from all over. Michele, the promoter is great to work with. She made everything very easy. Terrible service at the bar. Management definitely seems to have issues. Apparently the customer is not important to this staff. With 6 people in the bar, the bartender was too busy to make sure everyone knew last call was being called 30 minutes before closing. Personal issues seemed dominate the actions of the staff much more than appeasing the customers. read more

I'll start off by saying that the cigar selection is good and the help by the staff of finding the right cigar is great. But since they remodeled the place and put a bar in it, it's gone down hill. They force you to buy drinks and don't allow you to bring in your own coffee like they used to. I'm willing to buy a cigar, but not a drink. Unless you have really good coffee (which most places don't) then I won't be forced to buy yours. I used to enjoy Casa De Montecristo. This type of behavior only pushes people to find another lounge. The cigar selection is probably one of the better ones in the area. Though, online retailers are much better and don't have the inane rules of forcing you to buy drinks. Until they change their policies, I'll be avoiding this place. There are two places close by that are smaller and don't have the same policies. I'm already dropping $15 to $20 for a cigar. This place has a great selection of cigars . There is always a willing emplyeee willing to advice you on some fine cigars . But the bar that's there is great with the bar tender "Jake " . This young man makes the best effing drinks I've ever had and I've been to a lot of different bars . We ask Jake for he's schedule and try to only come when he's behind the bar . Went to see the new bar and lounge and I was disappointed, the seats available are not comfortable. I will say the atmosphere is much quieter no ( Dominos ) the music that was playing was a bit annoying some sort of techno club music. I think the cocktail menu is priced fairly I do not see myself coming here for a drink or two because it doesn't have any food... I hope they get a small bar menu something like cheese platter or small snacks. I hope to review again as things really start to open up, the bartender was very pleasant and I had a strong hot coffee... Years ago I had great things to say about JR Cigars in Paramus before it branded as Casa de Montecristo. In fact prior to moving out of the area it was a mainstay for my midweek week business plans. 2-3 days a week I would stop by pick up a nice cigar and go to the lounge. I'd set up my laptop and go to work. I have not yet looked at my earlier review, but guess I give it 4 or 5 stars. I am stunned by the decline brought on by Casa de Montecristo. Is it management? Is it greed? I really don't know but it is a shame. While visiting friends in the area, I went into Case de Montecristo last week. My first time stopping by in a number of years. I bought a nice cigar - spent around $15 on a good Dominican smoke, and over $100 on a couple of boxes. First strike... I asked for matches and the guy responded "no". Seriously, a cigar store - we don't have matches. It was not just a "no", it was an 'I don't give a f...no'. Okay, for anyone who sees that as petty, just wait... So, I find a guy with a torch. I light my cigar. I walk into the loung and sit down with my laptop. Some lovely sweetheart with a thick Jersey accent (hey.... I'm also from there - so, no offense, but I am sure everyone gets the point) informs me that I am not welcome to sit there unless I buy a drink. She also informs me that I have another option. Pay $10. Its a fee.... Hey! If you are management for Casa de Montecristo Paramus consider this: I am a customer! I just blew money in your business. I'm now being tossed... How goddamn rude can you be! What does the customer mean to you?? Seriously, how offensive! BTW, I live in the DC area. I go often to Casa de Montecristo DC. I recently visited Casa de Montecristo (in PARAMOUS) and I was thrilled to see that my favorite bartender, Leyla was back from her leave! As a long time patron of Casa de Montecristo this location does not live up to the expectations. I have supported this company for many years and have experienced exceptional service and hospitality at all of their locations across the country. Not so at the Paramus store. Extremely rude staff. Manager greeted us by saying he was closing the humidor 30 minutes early because he was short staffed. Bartender called last call 45 minutes before closing so he could get out on time. When a business is more concerned with employees getting out of work than taking care of its customers that's not a business I care to support. The lounge isn't as big as the other Montecristo in northern Jersey, but it's more the adequate. The environment is soothing, there are comfortable seats, and the staff is chill.
