This is a hidden gem! We ordered several items for Father's Day (sorry for late review! ) and everyone loved them so much! The coconut pie is incredible! Everyone was fighting over the last bites. We also ordered the chocolate chip/Nutella cookies and they were delicious. Perfect texture and not overwhelmingly sweet. Lastly we tried the guava polvorones, they were a bit hit also. I have not visited this place yet and I am already in lust. Someone brought in a pumpkin pie to the office and I have to say it is THE best pumpkin pie I have had. It was really more like a tart because it was not thick. The filling was creamy pumpkin goodness that was topped with a thin layer of cinnamon flavored merangue and the crust had bits of pecans in it. I've always been a fan of the sweeter things and was first introduced to some of Gioia's amazing sweets thru Small Tea in the Gables. They were so delicious and I'd come back over and over again just to pair my teas with yet another treat. On one particular day, I noted a post advertising some pies and a Meet the Baker sesh at the tea spot. There was no doubt in my mind that I needed to be there to try the pies and meet the maker of my sudden obsession. Mari was undoubtedly the sweetest and nicest person ever. This is the one. It's been difficult to find a good bakery after moving to Miami and I had to drive 45 min each way to Casa Gioia but oh was it worth it!! The dulce de leche Dominican cake was gorgeous! And a steal for the price. The cake is huge, sturdy and delicious. There is a dulce de leche filling that is amazing!! After salivating over Casa Gioia's Instagram posts for what felt like eons, I FINALLY got to try their delectable pastries for myself! Since I live in Brickell and work Downtown, I rarely ever leave the area which explains why I hadn't experienced Casa Gioia heaven yet. HOWEVER, I learned about their Art Basel pop-up at 19 East Flagler Street which started today and goes through Sunday and just HAD to go. Luckily, the pop-up is just a couple of blocks from my office so I grabbed a friend and dragged her over there with me (because I refuse to engage in gluttony on my own). As soon as I walked in, I felt like i'd died and gone to heaven. I was so overwhelmed by the delicious array of options that I had to take a moment to pull myself together. I ended up opting for the dulce de leche churro pops and a nutella chocolate chip cookie. I also got to try the brownie and the guava cake that my friend purchased. Absolutely everything was perfect. It was so good in fact that I may have to go back tomorrow (don't judge me). Also, for the record I did not only have cookies and brownies for lunch. Actually, also at the pop-up was Small Tea, so I got to buy a turkey and avocado wrap from them and pretend to be "healthy." The wrap was delicious! Amazing! I tried the mini pies from the Bites Collection and I was impressed not only with the taste, but also with the presentation and the care Mari took to make sure I was beyond satisfied with my order. The first time I tried Casa Gioia's cakes was at a kids birthday party. The owner and her mom were teaching cake decoration to 8 year olds. They are both amazing people, kind, funny, and good nature. The owner has a talent for both baking and teaching young kids. I was impressed with her Dominican cake. It's delicious both inside and outside (meaning, the frostin) And what shocked me most was that EVERY SINGLE kid ate their whole piece of cake. I have two little kids and I constantly go to birthday parties where kids just eat one or two bites of an amazing looking birthday cake and then they set it aside. With Casa Giogia's cake it's totally different! Kids love it and the most amazing discovery is that it doesn't have to be even chocolate flavor! So I ordered a cake for my daughter's First Communion. I tried one of Casa Gioia's brownies on a whim and they are the most delicious brownies I've had in all of my life!! So great that I'll drive from waaaaaay down south just to buy some brownies. Delicious desserts! I ordered the nutella cookies, oreo shortbread, alfajores, and guava polvorones to be shipped to California. Shipping only took 2 days to get all the way from Miami. Everything was delicious, but my favorites were the nutella cookies and alfajores! I couldn't stop eating the nutella cookies - they have just the right balance of salty and sweet!
