S'mores Brownie and Red Velvet Cake Slicered
    Kay H.

Fireman Derek is my favorite bake shop creating delicious food. I love the s'mores brownie - my #1 fan favorite- and red velvet cake. The brownie is rich and chocolatey with the marshmallow adding extra sweetness. The red velvet cake is the authentic version of the classic. My mother was a girl raised in the south, and the red velvet rivals her family's recipe. Thank you DoorDash for the delivery service. Fireman Derek's has a relaxed ambiance if you visit in person. I had a first date there several years ago.

The Cookie Monster pie was the bomb. The service was excellent. But the neighborhood was noisy and crowded. Must be from all the college kids celebrating their graduations

This is always a good idea when in Wynnewood. The cookies are delicious, as are the pies. We found the cake to be on the dry-side, but that could be a one-off experience. It's nice to buy and assortment to try a couple different desserts because there are so many good options. The store a has some seating, but we generally carry out. Service was friendly and helpful.

Yes they do not have prices posted but their cookies, cakes, etc are just exceptional! They are rich but... they are a good portion(you may want to split it with someone special or save half for another time) Definitely a must do for your cake, cookies indulgence.

Always a great selection of treats here! After enjoying their delicious pecan pie previously, I tried the peanut butter chocolate cake today. It features a chocolate cookie crust and a peanut butter filling similar to a cheesecake. Even though I don't usually enjoy cheesecake textures, the flavor was still very good. I look forward to trying one of their other cake styles on my next visit.

I tried the key lime pie again along with the coconut guava cake slice. The key lime was as tart as I remembered but there was a slightly grainy texture that I didn't remember before. Still good. The coconut guava cake is a bit too dense for my liking. It has cream cheese frosting so on the richer side. I also sampled the red velvet cheesecake ice cream (not as rich as I expected, it was good!) and the chocolate cake, which was a little bland strangely as I kept tasting it. They give you a huge portion though - I asked for the smallest size split between the two flavors.

A true Miami staple all these years later. Their new location offers a large space with the same delicious treats. Their coconut custard pie is DELICIOUS!! Top it with some vanilla ice cream for top tier deliciousness. Service was great too. The girls at the counter were giving their suggestions and being very kind.

Was feeling dessert in Miami for once and found Fireman Derek's Bake Shop & Cafe in Wynwood. Wow, they really have a LOT of options here. I was actually surprised at how many cakes and pies they had here. It was actually a bit overwhelming. Ended up picking a very delicious guava cheesecake. The lady here was really friendly. Super nice and was very helpful. Definitely worth a return visit!

tl;dr while this trendy bakery is one of Miami's most popular dessert shops, the pricey slices of pie are mostly forgettable Baking is part of Fireman Derek Kaplan's DNA -- he first sold his key lime pies as part of a side hustle back when he was a teenager. And to supplement his decade-long career as a Downtime Miami firefighter, Kaplan continued to operate out of his father's apartment and commissary kitchens. He opened his namesake bakery in Wynwood in 2014, and a few years later, he retired from the fire department to pursue his baking career full-time. During my recent trip to Miami, I was intent on finding the best rendition of key lime -- the official pie of the state of Florida -- and Fireman Derek's kept popping up as one of the most popular, even voted as "Miami's Best Key Lime Pie" by the Miami New Times. You can't miss the original outpost's vibrant, brick-red storefront with Kaplan's honey-yellow initials, even among the vivid Wynwood neighborhood. The inside is minimalistic and industrial. The rafters and ductwork are whitewashed and left exposed. The walls are painted baby blue with colorful, firehouse- and pie-related motifs. The wooden tables and stainless-steel chairs are pressed to the side, and plenty of room is left for the queue. Countless pie varieties in retro, porcelain dishes sit within the coolly lit display counter. A steady trickle of customers rolls through on an early weekday evening, and modern electronic music echoes around the space. My family and I visited Fireman Derek's after getting dinner nearby in Wynwood, and the service was friendly and efficient. We immediately gravitaed toward the key lime, and $9 only got us a pretty small slice. The custard was moderately tart and left a lingering zest in my palate. The crust seemed almost too graham cracker-y and oversaturated in oil, and the pie sported only the wimpiest dollop of whipped cream. While I remain intrigued by the shop's supposed ability to turn any of its baked into a shake, nothing about my pie felt premium besides the price -- I'm frankly surprised that I would be ranked about the best in the city.

Super quick and fast service. The place was clean and super good vibes. They are a bit pricey and the slices are small, we paid $26 for two slices of key lime pie.

Strange there are no longer prices listed here. The pies cakes, cheesecake, cookies, brownies, ice cream shakes, and fancy coffee drinks all very rich, heavy and irresistible. We shared a magic bar, friends enjoyed cake & cookies. Everything was amazing beautiful as it is delicious.

Every time I'm in Wynwood, I have to stop here and get their pecan pie. It is the best pecan pie I've had as it's not overly sweet. Their salted caramel pie is also delicious but I forgot to take a picture of that. The service is always excellent and the ambience is very cheerful with its colorful decorations. I will always be returning here whenever I'm craving something sweet.

Guava berry pie and s'more's brownie
    Gabe L.

We stopped by Fireman Derek's Bake Shop and ordered the guava berry pie and the s'mores brownie. The pie was delicious. Bright, fruity, and gone before we knew it. The brownie was super rich and heavy on the chocolate, but it lacked the sweetness to balance out the bitterness of the cocoa. We got creative and mixed the two for the perfect chocolate-fruity bite. Definitely worth the stop just for that combo. We didn't finish the brownie, but the pie didn't stand a chance. Torn between a 3.5 and a 4, but we rounded up. The staff was incredibly sweet, super knowledgeable, and understanding about dietary restrictions. That alone earns them extra credit.

The people who work there are passionate and helpful. The vibe inside is like any normal cake shop, however the pies were amazing.

Big selection. Expensive. They are good but difficult to get there, park and buy a $12.00 piece of cake.

I came over the weekend on a Sunday for a lil pick me up treat and loved how big this store was in comparison to all the other Laduree stores I've been to. Definitely fits the aesthetic of the Design District, they had a bit of indoor seating as well as some outdoor that you could use from the plaza of the area. They not only offered macarons but had some cool non-food items like totes and candles, and for food they had ice cream, coffee, matcha (to my surprise), and even some Eugenies (a caramel type of cookie covered in chocolate in different flavors). We got some macarons (the Marie-Antoinette being my fav) and tried the Eugenie cookie. The macarons are overall okay but, again, they hold a special place in my heart. I love the Marie Antoinette because it gives an Earl Grey flavor, which is my top of all time. The Eugenie cookie wasn't the greatest, especially at $4.50 for such a small thing but I was happy I at least tried it. Overall, a great spot for a nice lil treat in a pricey area. I can't wait to stop by again for macarons and maybe try their matcha!
