This place has gone down hill. The current manager cant even add 2+2. The corporate office which changed at the behest of "new management" albeit still the same family, but with a large ego and no humility (silver spoon type), has also been shaken up and its impacted the quality of the community with the drive for profits and financial results more important than maintain habitable living standards as dictated by the local government(s). Im shocked that they got rid of their best manager in over 10 years and expect the tenants to feel safe and secure. Just wow, the greed. Property values and rents are plummetting around LA, so good luck with that greedy 1% ers. read more

The team, under Gordon's management, is the best its ever been, and Ive lived here going on 20 years. It makes me excited to have a manager the enforces rules tactfully and with grace. He was able to get me a storage space for my camping gear at a good price too for when I had company over. The manager, Gordon, even stayed late ... when the rest of the team left him a few minutes early, to ensure I liked the storage space and that he had brand new keys for me. If it wasn't for Gordon, I would have moved away this year but even my fiance likes him and his work with the team. Things have changed around here over the past two years with him. I hope this team sticks around a while. They're good. read more

The management team is so friendly and helpful. I love Gordon and Dennise - Gordon went above and beyond to help me locate my lost package in the mail room, and Dennise has been through my Casa Granada journey from the start! The maintenance team is also so helpful and very quick to respond. Glenn and Nelson have helped me when I've been stuck in the garage, fix anything that needs fixing asap, and brought big packages to the apartment so we wouldn't struggle. I initially moved to Casa Granada with the intent to stay for a year or two while my son attended the local high school. The management team here has made living here such a close community that I have no desire to move. I feel safe, supported and appreciate the immediate response to anything that I need. Gordon is next level when it comes to management and his level of care for the tenants and the property is genuine. MOLD HEALTH PROBLEMS. I feel this is my duty to protect any prospective tenant with what they would be dealing with. My toddler is suffering from extreme eczema due to mold spore exposure at Casa Granada. His doctor told us to immediately get mold testing done in our unit so we could get it resolved immediately. Which we did - and paid out of pocket. When the results were showed to CG - we were initially ignored. After weeks of asking for remediation- they finally organized for their contracted mold company to come out and do the exact same testing. We were informed that the results came back and we were told the living conditions were fine and that our request to see the results was DENIED. Their actions speak for itself. The fact that they have gone to the extent to keep the results from us at the expense of my child's health is a disgrace. The health board will be next on our list but I felt that anyone interested in this dilapidated building should be forewarned. This is only coming from a place of wanting to protect other families from going through the same thing we have. When we do leave this apartment - I bet that this unit will be pulled a part and proper mold remediation will be done but they refuse to do this now- evident of the fact that they are hiding the results from us. read more

I had the privilege of living at Casa Granada for the ten months I spent my year abroad at UCLA. I have nothing but gratitude towards all the staff. Sucely is the best manager you can have at your disposal. She helped me all through the moving process and any questions during my stay. Such a lovely person, always there to greet you with a smile! Regarding maintenance, Nelson is THE BEST at what he does. Any maintenance issue I had was solved efficiently, always going above and beyond. The installations are significant, and my studio apartment was located near the artificial river, which was so peaceful for me. The pool was such a nice place to get all my homework done. All the neighbors I encountered were extremely helpful and kind in situations where I lost my wallet once, and everything was returned to me, or the days my car died, and I needed a jumpstart. Overall, it's such a great community of people, and I'm sure going to miss living here! Don't hesitate to move here if you have the opportunity. read more

So far soo good! I recently moved into a newly renovated 2 bed 2 bath with a balcony over the pool, and am happy! The appliances and floors are new, and the closet space is great. Kitchen is a bit small, making it hard for more than one person in it at a time unfortunately. As for management, Sucely is very responsive and knowledgeable! Had no issues with reliability. Maintenance is OK - the system to input requests is great, but the follow through/coordination isn't always there. Will update later into my residency! read more

My husband & I have lived at Casa Granada for the past three years after moving across the country. Overall, it was a great place to call home! More than anything, this is an EASY place to live - from kind & responsive building management, fantastic & quick maintenance, a large automated package room, paying rent & utilities online, secure & safe parking garage where we were able to rent two parking spaces, and a nice pool and gym. I cannot rave enough about Glenn & the maintenance crew! The apartments are large & spacious. We were in one of the units that has not been upgraded (it was a bit more affordable) but no complaints there - still nice enough inside! Only downside for us is that the unit we were in tended to get hot and stuffy, but the portable ACs helped and I'm sure being in a unit with a balcony or different location in the building would have solved that problem. Overall, we had a very positive experience at Casa Granada. We're leaving to head to a new neighborhood to be closer to the beach, but we will miss the ease of living here at CG! read more

First for the Pros: beautiful grounds, nice pool, great westside location, lush trees and landscaping, good Maintence staff; responsive and helpful with repairs. Leasing staff is friendly. And now for the Cons: the experience Entertainment areas: They have nice areas for entertainment but you can't bring more than two friends total without security kicking you out of the pool, patio, or rec room area (even if no one else is there). Only way to avoid this is to apply for a party permit in advance or something with the office. The result is a beautiful space that is rarely used. When it is used, ppl usually bring more than 2 ppl and hope not to get kicked out. The flood: within our first year, the #4 building flooded during a rain. Water poured through the windows and through the light fixtures in the middle of the night. It was crazy, our entire apartment had to be upended and carpet removed. The management initially offered us a $1k credit for the major inconvenience and property damage but the presented us with a legal waiver (including waiving all future rights) in order to get our credit. We declined and we're given a much smaller credit in exchange for not waiving our rights away. Also they refused to replace the dated windows that leaked, they did replace the wall AC saying that it caused the windows to leak. I uploaded some videos to go along w this story. Asbestos: It was disclosed to us prior that the building had asbestos (common for the age 1969) but very complicated when a flood occurs because it can release asbestos into the air. Management initially denied knowledge of the asbestos until we provided them with the letter they sent us disclosing that they had it. Upon request they provided us with a book thick report to review, and tested the unit to see if we had been exposed due to the flood (we asked for an independent test but they tested internally and advised us that the popcorn ceiling didn't have asbestos- I hope this was true). All in all the flood was a major bummer and if I was managing the property, I would have compensated the tenant much better. Identity theft. there were mail thief's in the Brentwood area: apparently stealing sensitive mail from various residents multiple times and committing identity theft. We found out from other residents and then from the building because the postal inspector stopped delivering our mail due to the crime. Funny thing is the building had security, who was apparently more focused on reluctantly policing residents. The building was caught off guard and seemed to drag its feet in notifying residents of the security breach. When they finally did notify residents, they quickly removed notices from the common area and confronted residents, myself included, for posting about the issue in the common area informing us that we didn't have a right to post a community notice or petition. All these situations combined revealed that although a beautiful complex, the corporate management is legalistic and fails to put residents first. I'm sure they're just looking out for the bottom line but be warned. PS: Parking issues read your lease carefully, the neighborhood has no easy street parking and they stated in the lease we had that they can terminate your parking at their discretion. read more

I didn't exactly live in the apartments--- I signed the lease and everything after an extensive house search, then around a week before moving in an unexpected alternative housing option became available to me and I had to cancel everything. Yes-- a total chaos, and something that a leasing office would understandably be very unhappy about. However, all through the process, starting from the initial contact to the completely chaotic pullout, the staff at Casa Granada, Leidy and Sucely, were extremely helpful, prompt, and cordial. Just based on excellent communications with them alone I would recommend this place to anyone. read more

Lipstick on a Pig! Asbestos and old bones are covered up with beautiful landscaping and a koi pond. The building was constructed circa 1965, so I've had a major catastrophe about once per month (toilet, shower having to be completely torn apart and rebuild, parking structure has concrete falling off, my sink leaking below to my neighbor's ceiling, etc.). The place looks beautiful and my guests love the pool and koi pond. A maintenance staff on hand makes things a little easier, but it is frustrating to have strangers in my place once per month. I do not wear shoes around my place to avoid dirt and mud, but it is not the case with workers. I always have to steam clean and vacuum when they repair. The workers are friendly, with the exception of the manager, Shady. She sides more with the corporation (E&S Ring) than with balancing her relationship evenly between corporation and tenant. They spend too much on Saturday bagels and parties, which few tenants actually attend (but pay for, dearly with maximum rent increases the past two years). I would look elsewhere. read more

Lived here for 3 years, and had an overall positive/ fairly positive experience. Price wise, this place is fairly comparable to the surrounding area (perhaps even a little bit cheaper) The landscaping is really well maintained, and the maintenance staff are friendly and helpful. The building itself is in decent shape, but feels like the typical 1970's/1980's West LA architecture. The walls are fairly thin, and the cabinets have been repainted way too many times. When I first moved in, management was fairly rude, but I believe it changed hands in the spring of 2014. Traffic on Barrington can be a NIGHTMARE at rush hour, which will definitely negatively affect your experience here. Not Casa Granada's fault, but a reality of the area. Moving out was painless, and they didn't try to nitpick about the small things. Overall, if moving to this area is convenient for you, this apartment is worth taking a look at. read more

Perhaps I'm not the best person to be reviewing this place since I never lived here, but as a visitor allow me to share my insight. First off, the front gate is quite impressive and always locked. In fact, the place over all is quite safe, not only because it's Brentwood but because of the security guards. But go past the front gate and say hello to the nice fountain in front... and POPCORN machine?! Okay, maybe I'm amused easily, but any apartment lobby that has free freshly popped popcorn is okay in my book. I've always been escorted around this place, but trust me-- if you're on you're own as a visitor, you might need a tour guide. There are meandering hallways and corridors aplenty and it takes quite a bit of time to get oriented. Now, the apartments themselves. The layout is basic-- you walk in and you're in the living room with the kitchen attached. On the left and right sides of the room is a closet. Go a little further and the exposed bathroom counter (TWO sinks!) with the bathroom and bedroom adjacent. Outside there is a pool with lush shrubs and ferns practically everywhere. The parking situation is kind of tough since it's 1-2 spots assigned per apartment. Your best bet as visitor is to find street parking, but good luck with that one. Try around the corner perhaps? Also, when visiting for the first time, keep your eyes peeled for this place. You'll blink and pass by. The address is hard to see and unless you're coming from Wilshire, you'll miss the signboard for Casa completely! read more

A great place to call home! My husband, dog and I lived at Casa Granada for almost three years until we moved out in April. It was our very first place on the West Coast, after moving here from Pennsylvania. We actually lived in a one-bedroom for the first year and moved into a two-bedroom the rest of the time. We had some strange neighbors here and there, but you'll have that in a big complex. Overall it's a really great place, with lots of friendly people. Many of the residents have lived there for decades, so it's a very diverse crowd. We also really appreciated the beautiful Fiesta Room to host parties and having a gym onsite. The apartments are huge, with tons of closet space, which was wonderful. I think our one-bedroom was around 750 sq. ft. and the two-bedroom was a massive 1300 sq ft. There's also a hotel room in the lobby for guests of residents, which my parents stayed in three times over Christmas, which is really convenient. It used to be $100, then they remodeled it and raised the price to $125 and I think it just went up to $150, which is maybe a bit pricey, but you can't beat the location. I think the best thing about the whole complex is the staff. Jojo and Pete in the office are so friendly and helpful (and they somehow manage to know everyone's apartment number, which is amazing) which really just made living there so much nicer. Ramon and Raul are also so sweet and kind, and always fixed anything broken at lightening-fast speed! We decided to check out a new neighborhood a few miles away, so that's why we moved, but we definitely had a great experience at Casa Granada and would highly recommend it! read more

I lived at CG for 2 years and moved apartment twice from a studio to a one bedroom. Recently I decide to move out before the lease for my one bedroom was over. I understand that I was breaking my lease and that if I was in another place, I would have had to pay a lease breaking fee. But I stayed there for 2 years and you would think that management (ESRing) will be understanding, but of course not! They are $$$ suckers! They charged me a whole extra month of rent and their rent is not cheap at all. Not to mention that rent goes up every year. One last thing, I just realized that they sucked up more than 70% of my down payment. FYI - the apartment was damaged at all. They don't care about your hard earned money. The place is a really lovely place to live if you can afford to pay the price and to deal with the arrogance of ES Ring. On the other side, I would give extremely high rating to the maintenance staff and the other staffs at CG. Jojo and Pete are great but have to power to even negotiate with corporate management. Would I ever stay there again? NO WAY knowing how corporate management does not care about their long term tenants. read more

i really love it here. While it'd be great to get a cheaper place, it's exactly what I wanted and after looking at other studios online, I think it's a pretty good deal (especially considering the amenities). For the commenter who suggested you need a tour guide- it's kind of true but it's also kind of the point... despite there being 4 buildings, the dense, gorgeous plantings everywhere add a lot of privacy and seclusion (which I love). I hate places that just have a concrete pool and everything is open. In my experience, I've had no apartment problems, I've reported a couple small things (eh, like a clogged sink) and they've always promptly fixed them, no charge. It's great how they hold your packages so you can pick them up when's convenient for you, and the pool is amazing. The fitness rooms (separate cardio and weight rooms) are decent enough to get the job done (i like bigger gyms but hey, you cant get more convenient than downstairs). My building is super quiet and I've been here over a year and no complaints! Oh, and the bbq is fun, too ;) I wanted a place with full amenities and a short walk to everything i need, and that's what this is. read more

Case Granada is an outstanding place to live! Not only are the apartments lovely, but the staff is incredible. Pete and JoJo make you feel welcome from the first visit, and are amazing at making everyone feel at home. They hold bagel brunches once a month, and parties throughout the year, including a sit down feast for the holidays. Glenn, Ramon and Raul keep the place ship shape, are readily available to fix things and are always working on improvements. The grounds are beautiful and feel like you are out in the country,instead of so close to the city. It is conveniently located to two freeways and the beach, but feels very suburban and safe. Shopping, dining, dog park, tennis courts, community center and post office are walking distance away. Having moved here from the East Coast, I highly recommend Casa Granada as a wonderful new place to call home! read more

I just had such an incredibly pleasant and positive experience looking at units there with Jose. First I want to say that although they had disappointingly rented the unit I was hoping to see before I got there, Jose was kind and considerate enough to call me immediately and let me know before I trecked all the way over there to look at units. He also very clearly and carefully went over what they did still have available and what the pricing was. Once there he offered me a beverage and then we immediately went off to look around the property which is absolutely gorgeous. The workout room is extensive and has beautiful equipment. The washing machines and dryers are in abundance and strategically located throughout the complex. The parking was also an abundance with different options which was awesome to see. I found it interesting that it was a rent controlled complex although given that it can and he said probably will go up 3% a year I did I think that might still be a pretty hefty increase each year. We met Ramon as we were touring the property. He handles a lot of the maintenance there. You couldn't meet a kinder and more gracious man than both Jose and Ramon show themselves to be. They both made me feel special and put a smile on my face! Although I may not choose to spend the money that it would cost to move there, especially since the unit I wanted someone else got and there is not another one quite like it available yet, I may very well get to see them in the future. I can say that it was easy to see that living at 550 S. Barrington would be a very magical experience. Thank you for your kindness Jose and Ramon. read more

I moved in in 2008. This is strictly my opinion, the place is run by a a management company that only cares about money. They messed up my apartment unit and didn't even replace the carpet. Every year they find another way to nickel and dime you. Stay clear. The walls are paper thin, constant plumbing problems, and the pipes are so old lime deposit on whites are leaving yellow stains. RUN RUN there are better places at a better price in the same area. There are spiders constantly too! Lipstick on a pig is right!! read more

This is such a great place. The grounds are lovely, the pool and gym are really nice, and the office goodies and friendly staff make it feel like a real community. We actually lived here five years ago and recently came back. Honestly, the staff is as good as it gets. Andrea (manager) actually remembered us from five years prior and truly made our transition back to the complex seamless and welcoming. She has always gone out of her way (along with the rest of the staff) to make us happy and that's something you don't find everywhere. It makes a noticeable difference. I have had many building issues from plumbing, toilet, shower, door, noise etc. Maintenance is awful. They will charge you for everything they can once your lease is up. Stay far - far away from this place. They don't appreciate their tenants and keeping them. Instead they prefer to have vacant units. There are far better places for the outrageous price around town.
