Casa Luna was such a great experience from start to finish. We started with the molotes and the guacamole topped with tuna, and both were excellent -- especially the molotes. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and honestly some of the best we've had. The guac was fresh and elevated by the tuna on top, which added a really nice, unexpected touch. Service was wonderful throughout the meal -- attentive without being overbearing, and everything came out at just the right pace. The beers were ice cold, which was perfect given the warm evening. The setting itself is absolutely beautiful -- relaxed, inviting, and thoughtfully designed, making it a great spot whether you're out for a casual meal or a special night. Casa Luna really nails the balance between great food, great drinks, and great ambiance. We'll definitely be back. read more

Beautiful atmosphere and great attention to detail. Wait staff is fast, courteous and knowledgeable. The food is great but I enjoyed the beauty of the inside of the restaurant even more. I had the cinnamon mole, it was delicious - I expected it to have a strong cinnamon taste but it was prepared beautifully and it tasted like a genuine, traditional mole. Chicken breast portion was very generous. My husband had the steak molcajete. It was just ok. Nothing bad but nothing to come back to. The restaurant itself is aesthetically on point...great for social media pics. Not much on the menu for Vegans, but I guess we should have looked into that beforehand. We ordered a few appetizers- one was a giant tomato with panela cheese, the other was a mushroom pie. They were both ok, but we didn't finish it. My hubby orders the molcajete with steak- he really liked that there were strips of nopales in there too. It had a little spicyness to the sauce- 9/10. I ordered the salad with a honey dressing and candied walnuts- 9/10. My daughter who is the vegan, ate the handmade tortillas with a side of mole sauce. Excellent food, ambiance and service! I had three dinners in Tlaqupaque and all three were excellent, Casa Luna being the last meal before heading out of town. Our hungry group met up for dinner and had a short 15 minute wait for a table of six, oops, eight! Two friends showed up a few minutes after we were seated (we didn't expect them to arrive in time!) I share this because Casa Luna let us squeeze them in and enjoy our dinner together (many restaurants would have turned them away.) The ambiance is really nice, cool decor and very open. Food? Excellent. Aside from delicious guac and chips, we had crickets too! Salty little things didn't really taste like much. I ordered the chicken mole enchiladas and received an abundant plate of food that was well prepared and quite tasty. I was only drinking sparkling water that evening, so couldn't speak to the drink but they presented well. Overall, I thought Casa Luna was quite nice and would happily return next time I'm in town. 5 stars P.S. Casa Luna in Tlaquepaque was the last meal I had in the Guadalajara region during my visit in January 2020. The meal was so dreamy that I still think of it quite often today. Food: One of the best moles I've ever had. It was exciting to finally try one that I could put in the same category as the first one I tried in El Paso, Texas. Service: Superb! Ambience: Dreamy. Such an incredible experience--one of the best meals of our trip. We were in Tlaquepaque on a Sunday afternoon, and Father's Day to boot, so there were lots of people out and about. While the restaurant was full, our party of two was seated almost immediately. First impression walking into the restaurant... breathtaking. It is so whimsical and absolutely gorgeous. A very talented band was there, playing a mix of clarinet-led tunes - a healthy mix of traditional songs, current hits, and fun mashups. Service was fantastic. The host was nice to offer us menus in English and our server was welcoming and so sweet to answer any questions we had and offer his suggestions. As far as drinks go, the cocktails are all interesting, delicious, and beautifully presented. Some even come with a show. IFYKYK. I got one with lots of cucumber (Coctel Pepino), served in a lovely bowl with its own little stand, and it was perfectly refreshing on the incredible hot day. I sipped away on this single drink throughout our meal. We were planning to order an appetizer and salad to share, plus an entree each. Our server stopped us, telling us that we absolutely should not do that because it would be way too much food. He was right, the servings are huge, and I'm so glad that he saved us some money... and stomach space. They brought us complimentary chips and six (yes, SIX!) different salsas. All flavorful and a great range from mild to super spicy. The salad was giant a bowl of greens, cucumber, tomato, goat cheese, avocado... so fresh and delicious. Enough for 2-4 people to share, easily. For my entree I got the chicken mole and my honey got the flank steak. Both served with fresh tortillas and both incredible. My only regret was not being able to finish my food. Again, it was delicious although the servings are huge. If possible, bring a group and share away! read more

Thought this restaurant was going to be a bit of a tourist trap since it's on the heavily traveled Calle Independencia but was pleasantly surprised! On a Saturday afternoon we waited about 40 minutes for a table. Which was fine because we were offered seating outdoors and were able to order drinks to start. You can order full service outdoors but honestly I'd probably recommend against that to really get the full experience of the interior and the live music. The food was great, we were with a large group so I'm not getting to review all of the entrees we ordered but everyone left satisfied and it was a great experience. -Pescado Agridulce 9/10: the flavor was delicious, the fish was a tad over cooked and a little tough around the edges. -Cecina con Guacamole 15/10: God this was so good. I grew up eating cecina as a kid and this definitely took me back. -Pollo en Mole 8/10: Pretty standard. -Drinks: El Triste 10/10, Paloma 10/10, Cóctel de Pepino 10/10. Disappointed by the lack of service I was really looking forward to trying Restaurante Casa Luna, but unfortunately, the experience was a letdown. After being seated, we waited for 15 minutes without anyone approaching our table no hello, no water, no greeting. It wasn't even busy at the time, and what surprised us most was that there were several waitresses just standing around chatting with each other. They saw us, but no one came over or even acknowledged that we were there. It didn't feel like a staffing issue it felt like we were just being ignored. Eventually, we got up and left. It's a shame, because the atmosphere looked nice and we were excited to try the food. But basic service is a minimum expectation. Hopefully management addresses this. read more

This was recommended by a friend and I am thankful he did. My initial reaction when I walked in was that it was too kitschy and too touristy. This restaurant is legit, and we actually stumbled upon it by accident. I have to say this restaurant served us the best meal and drinks we had during our stay in Guadalajara. The service was exceptional from beginning to end and the restaurant is beautiful, perfect setting and ambiance for either a casual lunch or romantic dinner. They start you off with chips and a selection of salsas and condiments that are amazing. We opted for just appetizers after ordering a few drinks and getting a bit hungry. We ordered the molotes de cochinito, OMG amazing and the Pulpo asado that was a special of the day, it was so good we ordered another. For the drinks definitely order the Coctel Pepino it was a hit with the girls, it's a tequila based drink of course, that is a perfect refreshing cocktail for a warm day. We also all had shots of El Tequileno tequila that are super smooth, we visited the distillery the day before in Tequila and loved it and Casa Luna had it. The shots are served with lime juice and Sangrita a tomato based juice similar to Clamato,they call it Banderita shots. I could go on and on about how amazing this place is but I won't, just do yourself a favor if you're in the Guadalajara area definitely take the ride down to Tlaquepaque and try it for yourself you won't be disappointed! read more

This place is GORGEOUS!! You walk inside and it's like a magical forest! Came here with some friends and we waited about 20 mins before being seated. Once sat, our server came over right away and took our drink order, we also ordered the queso fundido with chorizo. Chips with several dips came out first and then our queso fundido which MY GOD, it was amazing! Truly the best queso fundido I've had in my life, huge chunks of chorizo with fresh made tortillas and the crust on top was chef's kiss! I had the macaroni with tequila cream sauce. Beautiful restaurant in Tlaquepaque. The owner is an artist who has created a romantic setting for diners to enjoy a delicious meal. We visited for lunch and chose to share a few starter plates and a salad. The portions are very large, so we couldn't finish. We'd have been just fine with one less dish. The brisket birrria style is delicious and rivals any brisket or tri tip I've had anywhere in the US. It was served with tortillas, onion, cilantro and limes for making tacos. The portion was big enough for two people to make at least two meals. The cochinita pibil in egg roll wrapper was equally superb. A Cesar salad rounded out our meal. Every time I travel to Guadalajara, I don't leave without having dinner here. I can't recommend this place enough! The decor and ambience is a feast for the eyes and sets the mood for a wonderful experience. Every dish (from appetizers, soup, main course and dessert) is fabulous. Special shout out to the sea bass I had on my last visit. Also the management and wait staff is super attentive and goes out of their way to be accommodating. For example, I fell in love with the glasses they serve tequila in. I have never seen those glasses before , which are perfect for sipping with out the ice melting and diluting alcohol. I had difficulty finding them in the US, so on one of my visits here I asked the manager about it. He allowed me to buy a set from their private collection! read more
