First time eating at this place, I ordered the Arrachera Campestre and as an entree I had Guacamole with Chapulines. The main dish was pretty good, my only complaint is that the guacamole was not freshly made. The service was okay. What can beat this view?

Nice restaurant elevated above the Plaza with nice views of the surrounding churches. I wasn't very hungry and ordered an ensalada with the usual greens that had fruit, nuts, and goat cheese. There was the slightest hint of dressing on it. I usually prefer a nice blue cheese dressing but this is Guadalajara and that doesn't happen here. It was still good and I enjoyed it. The bread and salsa they offer were delicious.

Best location, outstanding service, great food. I found myself drawn to the outdoor seating area of Antigua because, to me, it was a great place to people watch. I visited so much the waitress stopped asking me for ID for my credit card. The service in Mexico is, generally, excellent and Antigua is no exception. A glance at the waitress is all it took to get a check, another beer, or to order food. The restaurant is located inside and that's really nice, too. The smallish inside restaurant had a Mariachi band when I went up to use the bathroom. Great view from there, too. All in all I was extra happy.

Good place with friendly waiters and nice food (not to much, not to little). Give the shrimp de agave a try (as recommended by other yelpers) it's a nice performance and very tasteful.

Good cold beer, good beer specials (2x1) and the food is good and pretty authentic. Take it from a Mexican, this place kicks a$$!

The view was a great plus as it's on the second floor and the balcony opened up to the plaza and cathedral.

The place is is wall to wall tables and they were all filled when I went. They have table clothes (not fancy, but nice) and fried torillas (like chips, except full rounds) on the table with three kinds of salsa. The service was good and the food came out lightening fast. I am a vegan and I went because Yelp says that it is vegan friendly.... which is hard to find in Guadalajara. I only saw one vegan option, which were potato enchiladas. They were good, but they did not blow me away.

We had cafe de olla and some dishes that made for an amazing brunch. We ordered a plate of Arrachera with tortillas and Bistec Encebollado (steak with onions) with beans. On the same plate we had chicharrones en salsa, a breakfast staple in this city. To balance the heavier dishes we had a Jugo Verde drink made from fresh pineapple and parsley. The staff were so friendly, we felt at home with the kind approach and nice ambiance. The decor is traditional and tasteful, we had such a fun experience. We dream of this breakfast and want to return with our sons soon. Try some amazing food here next time you're in Guadalajara, Jalisico Mexico!

A Stage Set for Fire and Flavor…read more La Casa de los Platos, a massive restaurant set along a boulevard of equally grand dining halls in Guadalajara's upscale district, thrives on spectacle. Its open-air courtyard, framed by stone and saturated with color, hums with loud music and theatrical flair. The guacamole, made by hand at the table, embodies that performance. Avocados are crushed in a stone molcajete, and the spread arrives bright and tangy. Yet, it's complicated by unnecessary additions--cheese chunks and chicharrón--that crowd out the fruit's natural elegance. A mere five totopos felt stingy, though a sack of piping hot corn tortillas--generous, soft, and fragrant--rescued the moment. At a requested "level 3 of 10," the spice soared higher than expected, a jolt that overwhelmed rather than accented. The rib eye tacos with shrimp and bone marrow extended the show, grilled before us over roaring flames. They were hearty, flavorful, and undeniably filling, but also excessively oily. The flavors--shrimp's brine, marrow's depth, beef's richness--blurred into a dish trying to impress on too many fronts. It was delicious, yes, but a reminder that tacos often shine brightest in their simplicity. Later, a live mariachi band replaced the nightclub thrum, a refreshing turn toward tradition and warmth. Service was fine but forgettable, efficient enough without leaving an impression. In the end, La Casa de los Platos is a spectacle tailored for a high-heeled crowd seeking grandeur. The flavors are bold, the showmanship bigger still--but subtlety rarely takes the stage. #GuadalajaraEats #FoodCritique #LaCasaDeLosPlatos
